Aussie boxing star Skye Nicolson lost her WBC featherweight championship following a split decision win against American fighter Tiara Brown.

In Sydney, during the event featuring George Kambosos Jr against Jake Wyllie, Nicolson was protecting her title for the third consecutive time in what was a triumphant return home.

She didn't get her desired conclusion as the judges scored the bout 94-96, 96-94, and 97-93 for Brown.

Brown's reaction said it all as she collapsed to the ground and screamed with her team cheering loudly when it was announced she was the new champion.

"The world title changes hands and a fairytale for the American," caller Ben Damon said on DAZN's coverage.

Post-fight, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn admitted he thought Nicolson might have edged the bout when it went to the Australian judge, Phil Austin.

"Skye made the mistake of fighting Tiara's fight. There was some great body work, but she didn't use her feet and she let Tiara make it a dogfight," he said on DAZN.

"I thought Skye posed the fight well and it was a split and went to the Australian judge, I was thinking we've got a good chance here but it was 97-93 to Tiara.

"It's her night tonight, we'd love to see if the WBC will give us a chance back. But Skye's got a rebuild for her, tonight belongs to Tiara Brown."
