The Detroit Lions declared on Wednesday evening that they have let go of quarterback Jake Fromm.

This reduction brings the Lions' quarterback count down to three, with Jared Goff, Hendon Hooker, and Kyle Allen continuing their tenure in Detroit.

The announcement was made less than 24 hours prior to the nation's premier talents arriving in Green Bay for the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Lions, who clinched the NFC's No. 1 seed last season, have the 28th pick in the first round of this year's draft.

In the 2024 season, Fromm was part of the Lions' practice squad, while Hooker primarily served as the backup to Goff throughout the year.

Fromm's sole playing time during his NFL career was limited to the 2021 season when he played in three games, with two of those being starts for the team. New York Giants He completed 27 out of 60 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown, and threw three interceptions.

The quarterback has previously played for the Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills as well.

The Lions' 28th overall pick is the most recent they have had in ten years and might consider using it on a defensive player.

It is anticipated that Aidan Hutchinson will fully recover from his broken leg, which cut short last season. However, the team still needs another defensive end to play on the opposite side.

The Lions might aim to compensate for the departure of their starting right guard Kevin Zeitler, who joined Tennessee, and push left guard Graham Glasgow to compete against one or two rookies for playing time.

Since drafting Frank Ragnow in 2018, Detroit has refrained from using a first-round pick on a guard or center.

Top selections might be unexpected at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, or middle linebacker. The Lions benefit from strong performances by Goff, David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPorta, Jack Campbell, and Alex Anzalone in these key roles.

Detroit failed to create a major impact in free agency as it was conserving cap space for signing players like Hutchinson. However, the Lions still managed to secure two substantial acquisitions.

Soon after losing experienced cornerback Carlton Davis via free agency, the Lions inked D.J. Reed to a $48 million, three-year deal. Just two days later, they bolstered their defense further by bringing in run-defending specialist Roy Lopez to team up with McNeill and DJ Reader at defensive tackle.
