Idris Elba

British actor Idris Elba was honored as a son of Ghana during his trip to the country on March 25, 2025.

This took place during an event hosted at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra. The occasion honored his significant role within the African diaspora as well as his dedication to bolstering Ghana’s artistic sector.

Idris Elba received a warm welcome from Justice Naa Yaale, who serves as the Chief of Staff for the Ga Mantse and is also the daughter of the late independence hero Ako Adjei. The occasion included traditional performances such as drumming and dancing, along with an energetic display of Ga cultural heritage.

At the event, Idris Elba reiterated his dedication to advancing Africa’s cinema sector.

He unveiled proposals for a top-tier film studio and educational institution covering 22 acres adjacent to Osu Castle. This initiative is designed to provide chances for aspiring Ghanaian filmmakers.

The Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, commended Idris Elba for his initiative, highlighting its capacity to steer and inspire Ghana's younger generation. "It is essential our young people receive guidance, and this venture will contribute significantly to molding the future of the creative arts sector," he remarked.
