Hardik Pandya confirmed Suryakumar Yadav will lead Mumbai Indians (MI) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) IPL In the 2025 opening match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on March 23.

MI captain Hardik won't play in the first match as he has to serve a one-game suspension carried over from the previous season.

Jasprit Bumrah will also be absent for the initial match because of an injury.

Hardik was kept by MI for INR 16.35 crore. Under his captaincy, MI managed to secure victory in just four out of their 14 games during IPL 2024, accumulating 8 points, which placed them at the bottom (10th) of the table.

The initial two matches of MI in IPL 2025 will be held outside their home ground – they'll play at Chennai against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23 in Chennai, followed by a trip to Ahmedabad for a clash with Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 29.

The inaugural home game of MI at the Wankhede Stadium will see them playing against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 31. Following this, they will travel to Lucknow to take on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 4, after which they will return home to face the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 7.
