An Aussie passenger who was airlifted from a popular cruise ship due to a medical emergency has died.

Glenn and Beverley Stein boarded the Carnival Luminosa on March 30 for their first ever cruise along the Queensland coast.

The four night voyage to the Whitsundays and back had been a gift from their son who wanted to give his parents a well-deserved break.

Three days into the voyage last Wednesday, Mr Stein received attention onboard for a 'serious medical emergency' before his condition deteriorated.

He was airlifted from the ship by emergency helicopter to Bundaberg Hospital, where he died a short time later, according to his devastated family.

They revealed that Mr Stein had been like 'a kid at Christmas , brimming with excitement' when he boarded the cruise just days earlier with his wife of more than 50 years.

'This unassuming and diligent pair—a quintessential Australian working class couple known for prioritizing others—finally saw their lifelong dreams become reality,' fundraiser established by his daughter-in-law Sarah mentioned.

A week later, Mr. Stein's spouse continues to grapple not just with the sudden bereavement of her life-long companion but also with substantial medical expenses totaling several thousand dollars.

"The medical bills from just the cruise total several thousand dollars, not to mention the cost of the emergency medevac helicopter. This further exacerbates the financial strain caused by funeral expenses and the price of shipping Glenn’s remains from Bundaberg to Brisbane," her daughter-in-law mentioned.

It's a tremendous burden to bear on top of such devastating grief.

Bev has consistently held her pride and independence, yet this devastating circumstance is too much for anybody to endure single-handedly.

In place of floral tributes, the family has requested donations to assist with the substantial expenses related to Mr. Stein's departure and to support his wife as she adjusts to life without him.

Approximately $5,500 has already been collected.

The medical emergency last week stunned the other people on board.

'How perfect to conclude a vacation,' another commented.

'During my previous cruise, I had to leave by ambulance as well, so I understand how upsetting this experience can be.'

The Carnival Luminosa, operational since 2009, includes amenities such as a steakhouse, rum bar, piano bar, comedy club, and a spa.

Initially, the cruise ship operated in Europe, but it was relocated to Australia in 2022 and now operates from Brisbane.
