Koforidua, May 06, GNA - The Eastern Regional Secondary Schools Sports Association (ERSCSSA) has received praise for its exceptional mentoring and development of six talented students from the region. These individuals have secured positions on Ghana's national team due to their varied abilities.
These skilled players were members of the team that represented Ghana at the 2025 CAF tournament hosted in Accra a few weeks ago.
Dr. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, who serves as the Eastern Regional Director of Education, commended the Association along with the Physical Education Coordinators for their commitment to instructing and preparing students to enhance their athletic capabilities.
During the inauguration of the 36th Eastern Regional Inter-College and Super Zonal Competition held in Koforidua, she highlighted the role of athletics in promoting national pride and cohesion.
"Participation in sports fosters discipline, cooperation, and patriotism. Hence, I encourage every student to maintain self-control and follow the game regulations to ensure a fruitful event," said Dr. Owusu.
To formally begin the championship, the Regional Director initiated the ceremonial soccer ball at the Koforidua Sports Stadium, signaling the commencement of the event.
The much-anticipated Super Zonal Championship saw involvement from 60 Senior High Schools (SHS) spanning eight zones, with participants vying for honors in both football and track and field events.
Mr. Isaac Owusu Agyeman, who serves as the Regional Chairman of ERSCCSSA, emphasized the importance of the occasion, underscoring how it aids in uncovering talents and enhancing mental acuity amongst learners.
"The objective is to bolster young athletes and prepare them to make significant contributions to national progress," he stated.
The soccer tournament will run for three days, from May 5th to 7th, while the athletics competition will span 10 days, from May 12th to 22nd, with both male and female students participating.
Mr. Agyeman called upon people and groups around the globe to assist the organization by offering crucial resources to boost sports development in the area. He recognized that these contributions would significantly aid ERSCSSA in reaching its goals.
The participating institutions included Attafuah Senior Technical High School, Salvation Army SHS, Aburi Girls SHS, Okuapemman Senior High School, Abuakwa State College, Mpraeso Senior High School, New Juaben Senior High School, and Koforidua Senior High Technical School.
At the conclusion of the championship, the top-performing school will receive gold medals, a certificate, and a trophy as rewards.
The first runner-up will be awarded silver medals, a certificate, and a trophy, whereas the second runner-up will get bronze medals along with a certificate.
Furthermore, those individual students who stand out in their particular sporting fields will be awarded merit certificates.
