Time has gone by since the movie came out, yet the memorable characters of Kareena Kapoor 's Geet and Shahid Kapoor Aditya Kashyap's images remain imprinted in the minds and hearts of all Bollywood enthusiasts.
At an event currently taking place, filmmaker Karan Johar moderated a panel discussion on this topic. WAVES 2025 , Kareena discussed the film's enduring influence and mentioned how it encapsulates the spirit of a vibrant Punjabi girl.
She unveiled the single film she hoped the worldwide audience would view, stating, "I would recommend 'صند Jab We Met Because somewhere within it lies the essence of a young Indian girl, specifically a young Punjabi girl, and each girl carries this spark within them—their dreams shining brightly in their eyes. They have the liberty to make choices about who they want to be—embracing the right to experience love exactly as they desire. It resonated universally for a purpose, and I am confident it will keep touching hearts around the globe.
In 2007, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali both wrote and directed a movie centered on Aditya Kashyap (played by Shahid Kapoor). This character, an aggrieved business magnate, impulsively hops onto a train following his former partner’s nuptials. During this journey, he encounters Geet Dhillon (portrayed by Kareena Kapoor), a free-spirited woman intending to run away with her beau. As she drags him through the ups and downs of her existence, he finds himself slowly developing feelings for her and begins embracing a livelier lifestyle filled with joy and excitement.
Geet was a chatty extrovert, a vibrant young woman, whereas Aditya represented the polar opposite. The familiar adage 'Opposites attract' perfectly applied to their storyline.
The movie's soundtrack was equally successful. Ranging from 'Ye Ishq Hai' to 'Mauja Hi Mauja', 'Tum Se Hi', and 'Aaoge Jab Tum', every song in ' Jab We Met ' weaved magic.
Over time, the movie has attained a devoted following.
Kareena additionally spoke about the potential for working in Hollywood, stating, “It simply didn’t occur naturally. Filmmaking is my true love—it’s ingrained in me. My heritage plays a significant role as well since I come from an acting dynasty. The landscape could shift at any moment, though unpredictability isn’t foreign to me. However, chasing opportunities hasn’t ever defined who I am; perhaps a bilingual project might cross my path eventually. Who knows? Even big names like Spielberg have shown interest in what we’re doing!”

This gathering attracts more than 10,000 participants, including 1,000 innovators and representatives from 300 corporations alongside 350 start-ups, forming an influential interdisciplinary community. The conference covers the full range of media and cutting-edge technology fields, spanning areas such as cinema, streaming services, animation, video games, extended reality, graphic novels, artificial intelligence, and television broadcast.
