 Volunteer Wildfire Services mobilize firefighters in Cape Town skirmishes

 The firefighters from the City of Cape Town are gearing up their running shoes again for a charitable cause, aiming to raise funds for the Volunteer Wildfire Services.

 The charitable aspect of the Two Oceans Half Marathon started as a casual competition in 2017, and since then, it has evolved into an yearly occurrence aimed at spotlighting the crucial efforts of the Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS).
</p>
<p>
 The City of Cape Town firefighters, Jermaine Carelse and Renaldo Duncan, initially took part as the two primary runners in the marathon. The previous year saw them accompanied by two additional volunteers from VWS. This time around, ex-Springbok player James Dalton will also participate in the event.

<p>
 "Participating in this race for VWS is an honor," Dalton stated.
</p>
<p>
 "These individuals risk their lives to safeguard our communities and the natural areas of the Western Cape, and they act without delay. The least I can manage is to tie my shoelaces and assist them in obtaining the necessary resources so they can continue battling these blazes. Raising sufficient funds to buy a new vehicle for their fleet would significantly enhance their capability to react quickly and efficiently," Dalton stated.

 What does VWS stand for?
</h3>

 The
 Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS)
 Has been at the forefront of battling hazardous and occasionally lethal uncontrolled wildfires since its establishment during the catastrophic blazes that swept through Cape Town in 1999/2000.

<p>
 "VWS is a registered non-governmental organization. Our operations depend entirely on contributions from the general public and corporations to meet basic expenses like fuel, car upkeep, training, and safety gear for our volunteer fire fighters," stated Jenny Scheffers, who holds the position of Chief Marketing Officer at Volunteer Wildfire Services.

 Currently, we have around 350 volunteers who respond to fire emergencies as often as they can. This has been another challenging fire season, and we aren’t safe just yet. Our aim with this campaign is to raise enough money to buy at least one off-road vehicle so that our firefighting teams can reach the heart of these incidents more effectively. Should anyone feel motivated by our dedicated runners and firefighters, we invite them to contribute.
