The reason why Carrie Coon didn’t return to Avengers: Endgame was because of a salary discrepancy , her husband Tracy Letts has said.

Coon first played villain Proxima Midnight in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War , where her character met their end. Nonetheless, she was invited back for the 2019 sequel, though she eventually declined the opportunity.

In a recent appearance on an episode of The Ringer’s The Big Picture In the podcast, Letts mentioned that Marvel did not provide Coon with a larger payment for the sequel, which led her to decline the offer.

I think [Marvel] approached her for the sequel, and they invited her to join the second film," stated Letts. "But she responded, 'The first one was the highest-grossing movie of all time. Will I receive additional compensation?' They replied, 'No, we won’t be offering you extra payment.'

Letts went on, "She responded with, 'Wow, if I’m not getting paid any extra, I don’t see why I would do it.' And they countered, 'You should consider yourself lucky to be part of the Marvel Universe.' She turned down their offer."

In 2020, Coon had earlier mentioned that she turned down the role because of a clash in her schedule; however, she stated that she wasn’t closing the door on potential future endeavors.

"No one actually expires. It’s entirely plausible that I might get my own Avengers film next," she quipped. "Though you probably shouldn’t wait with bated breath," she added. PeopleTV 's Couch Surfing .

While The White Lotus actor didn’t appear in Endgame Her voice was featured without credit in the movie.

“We could’ve made more fuss about this,” Letts stated, “except it would’ve meant sitting through the movies, which we were not up for.”

Discussing her casting in 2018, Coon mentioned: "I had a voice-over audition; the nature of the project wasn’t revealed to me. They kept things under wraps, yet they provided me with some dialogue that ultimately appeared in the movie."

The Russos were enthusiastic about the idea of me bringing the character to life physically, and they asked me to join them in Atlanta. I was expecting at the time and performing in a play, but I took a flight and spent around 12 hours on set with them.

She stated, "They were simply searching for the voice of Proxima Midnight, and likely contacted me either due to interest in my vocal abilities or possibly because I have prior experience with motion capture work. In the past, I did motion capture for video games when I was based in Madison, Wisconsin."

I used to be an athlete at university, where the training was incredibly physically demanding but highly enjoyable for me. I really had a great time putting effort into it.
