Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. — Final-round action at The Players Championship was halted at 1:15 p.m. ET on Sunday due to an anticipated line of thunderstorms passing through the region.
The tee times had been advanced by roughly three hours in preparation for the anticipated storms. Golfers were dispatched from both split tees and groups of three.
Rory McIlroy, who won The Players Championship in 2019, took the outright lead at 12 under par after completing 11 holes. That’s where he stood when play was halted; he had scored 4 under for the session.

McIlroy held a one-stroke advantage over J.J. Spaun, who led after 54 holes with only ten holes played. Following another stroke behind were Akshay Bhatia, Danny Walker, and Tom Hoge. Among them, Hoge was having the most impressive performance of the day, being six-under-par as he completed seventeen holes before the game was halted due to suspension.
The sunset will occur at 7:35 p.m. on Sunday.
