Washington [US], April 11 (ANI): Renowned stunt performer and director Chad Stahelski , renowned for directing the movie ' John Wick ', featuring Reeves, along with its three follow-up movies also gained recognition for his work as a stunt performer and coordinator, which was highly acclaimed. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for ultimately acknowledging the field.
Following the announcement by AMPAS that Outstanding Achievement in Stunt Coordination will be introduced as a new category for the 100th Oscars, Oscars , he mentioned that it is greatly appreciated.
Stahelski stated that none of his peers in the industry would be successful without the contributions of stunt professionals over the past century. He further noted, “Many others have made significant sacrifices which allowed us to progress significantly. It’s truly remarkable to stand atop this mountain built by generations of performers, choreographers, and action directors. Unfortunately, many who laid the foundation may never witness how far we’ve advanced.” This was reported byDeadline.
Since there has been an ongoing demand for Oscars In recent years, to create a category for stunt professionals, Stahelski commended the Academy for involving individuals such as himself and other stunt performers who have transitioned into directing roles, including David Leitch, J.J. Perry, and Sam Hargrave, in their proceedings.
As stated by him according to the source, 'We are quite fortunate to be near the conclusion of this period, or perhaps right at its peak, when about two years back, the Academy approached us saying, “How can we assist? What steps should we take to move things forward?”'
Chad remarked, “For many individuals, it might seem as though it took quite a while, but I must commend the Academy for handling this matter correctly. Instead of rushing, they spent considerable time consulting various sectors within the stunt community—stunt coordinators, second-unit directors, representatives from both women’s and men’s groups. Each distinct part of the industry was approached so they could gather insights on more than whether an award should be established; everyone agreed that such recognition was warranted. The real discussion revolved around understanding how best to present the accolade, whom to honor with it, and what criteria would determine these decisions. After thorough research, once they were confident about their approach, they made the announcement,” according toDeadline.
He mentioned that unlike many other departments, ours has numerous distinct coordinators.
He went on, "We've got a stunt coordinator, a flight coordinator, a choreographer, a driving coordinator, and even an underwater coordinator—there’s quite a variety ensuring everything runs smoothly. The challenge lies in making the awards equitable and truly supporting what the stunt departments stand for. In my view, they executed this task admirably."
Stahelski began his career as a stunt performer in movies such as The Crow (1994), Escape from L.A. (1996), Alien Resurrection (1997), The Matrix (1999), Spider-Man 2 (2004), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), Live Free or Die Hard (2007), Rambo (2008), and The Hunger Games (2012).
"When working as a stunt double, I had the opportunity to appear in front of the camera and gain knowledge from the cast members, which allowed me to understand various facets of film production," he explained.
Stahelski commented, "This might have been one of the finest methods for attending film school, as it provided exposure to virtually all aspects of filmmaking both in front of and behind the camera. Therefore, when directing, you gain a strong understanding of various departments, processes, and techniques involved in movie production," according to Deadline. (ANI)
