The recently appointed EU Ombudsman, Teresa Anjinho, stated in an interview with Euronews published by Radio Schuman that European institutions ought to become more transparent and candid to prevent giving the impression that they are concealing information from the public.

She stressed the importance of narrowing the divide between what people expect and the real authority granted, cautioning that neglecting this could lead to greater polarization globally and diminish public confidence even more.

The EU Ombudsman has stated her intention to initiate an investigation into what is known as the revolving door effect—the movement of EU officials into positions within the private sector. This shift raises worries regarding possible conflicts of interest and increasing skepticism among the public towards these institutions.

She outlines what triggered this inquiry, her perspective on her position as Ombudsman, and the wider issues concerning openness and effective governance within European Union bodies and organizations.

Radio Schuman also addresses NATO as well as the trade dispute between the United States and China.

Today’s Radio Schumann is presented by Romane Armangau and produced by Eleonora Vasques. The audio editing was done by David Brodheim, with music composed by Alexandre Jas.
