It is believed that around four individuals may have perished after an abandoned septic tank collapsed beneath them while they were waiting to view an English Premier League game. The Bamburi Mwisho section within Kadzandani ward in the Nyali sub-county. on Sunday.

It is reported that the four stayed behind in the video cafe while others departed after the power outage occurred.

It is claimed that the metal-clad video cafe was constructed above a septic tank that is over four decades old.

Witnesses said the video café was full as people waited the start of the match at 4pm.

Nevertheless, they departed immediately upon realizing the video cafe owner had not paid for this month’s subscription.

Subsequently, the power was cut off as the spectators awaited the owner to settle the bill for the service.

Around 5:30 PM, the septic tank collapsed.

"I was in the house when I heard a loud commotion and children who were playing outside came into the house running. Then I heard another round of commotion," said Athman Salim, an eye witness.

Salim said when he peeped outside the door, he saw a gaping hole on the ground right in front of the door.

Within the video cafe, the wall where the screen was attached caved in.

It is reported that two of the alleged victims were seated in the front row.

The other two were resting on one of the central benches.

The Mombasa County Fire Rescue Team reached the scene approximately 30 minutes afterward.

Nonetheless, the rescue attempts were unsuccessful as the large gap continued to expand with each section of the floor that collapsed further.

Mohammed Noor, the Mombasa county commissioner, stated that an evaluation is underway to ascertain which operations will proceed.

Noor mentioned that this video parlor was constructed above a collapsed septic tank.

The water tank situated just outside the video cafe also ended up sinking.

An aunt named Nuru Sadat, related to one of the missing individuals, mentioned that he had left to watch a soccer match when the floor collapsed.

"I simply wish the county succeeds in locating his remains," Sadat stated.

Kadzandani MCA Fatma Kushe urged the county administration to expedite their efforts in recovering the remains.

Our thoughts are with the families of those who passed away.

"We request your assistance to recover the remains. Inna lillahi wainna illaihi rajiun," she stated.

Around 8:30 pm, additional sections of the floor collapsed as people gathered at the location.

Police had a hard time keeping residents at bay.

When this report went to print, County Chief Fire Officer Ibrahim Basafar had reached the location and was engaged in talks regarding the subsequent steps to be taken.

The region where the incident occurred cannot be reached by any vehicles.

The local emergency response group was considering tearing down sections of structures in the area to clear space for excavation efforts.

It is believed that one of the alleged victims has a sibling who is part of the MCA in Mombasa.
