Therefore, crossing these jurisdictional lines and enabling us to operate beyond our usual limits, while also assisting other sheriffs who can then help us, is the most crucial aspect of this task force," stated Liberty County Sheriff Dusty Arnold. </p> <p> The task force will enable deputies to operate across county boundaries to better chase after criminals. </p> <div class="nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text"> A Vernon man has been sentenced to 25 years for trafficking fentanyl. </div> <p> "It simply makes sense for us to gather all our minds, pool all our resources, and work collectively to share intelligence and cooperate with each other. This approach will make us much more effective in conducting business," stated Calhoun County Sheriff Michael Bryant. </p> <p> For the first time, FDLE is collaborating with rural counties as well. The agency is providing specialized agents and resources for this initiative. Through their partnership, these organizations can augment staffing without imposing additional costs on local taxpayers. </p> <p> Leaders think that this collaborative effort between multiple agencies will enhance connections within these neighborhoods. </p> <p> "It goes beyond being merely a task force on paper. It seemed like an opportunity for us to step in and take over some of those tasks," he stated. </p> <p> Members of the group pretend to be minors to lure and catch individuals online who intend to form inappropriate relationships. </p> <p> "We cannot begin anything; we cannot instigate anything. Everything comes to us instead. We prolong these situations and construct our cases against those involved. There are certain organizations we collaborate with, and once we gather the evidence, we pass it along to them. The core idea behind what we do is to reach as wide an audience as possible with information about these predators, ensuring that anyone who spots them in public will understand that this individual could pose a danger and should therefore avoid interaction. Even without cameras recording us, we'd keep up with the exact same activities." </p> <p> It is claimed that the funds raised go toward their initiatives. </p> <p> We maintain complete transparency regarding each contribution within our entire organization," he stated. "Our members are aware of our financial status at all times. Whenever we decide to allocate funds for a purchase, we submit it to a group vote. These resources are never used for acquiring luxury items like new vehicles or expensive attire. Traveler Forfeits Undeclared $20,000 to Customs Before Boarding US Flight

<p> <p> On Wednesday, Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Lagos directed a traveler bound for the United States, Olusola Okunfulure, to surrender the $20,000 seized by the Nigerian Customs Service to the federal government. </p> <p> On March 28, 2025, Okunfulure was apprehended by NCS officers when he arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. This occurred during the passenger inspection process for an inbound trip to the United States, as he had failed to report carrying $20,000. </p> <p> Judge Dipeolu issued the forfeiture ruling following Okunfulure’s appearance before the court due to charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. </p> <p> The prosecutor from the EFCC, Chineye Okezie, informed the court that Okunfulure perpetrated this offense on March 28, 2025. </p> <p> Nevertheless, Okunfulure admitted guilt to the single charge. </p> <p> After his statement, defense attorney Joel Ogundire spoke on Okunfulure’s behalf, requesting the court to blend leniency with justice and to return some of the funds to the defendant. </p> <p> Ogundire stated: "For over 15 years, he has been a devoted family member. His banking records indicate that he is involved in a lawful enterprise. After being cleared, he was presented with the declaration form." </p> <p> We have no objection to losing $20,000 out of the $30,000 as required by law. </p> <p> During the review of the case, the judge asked the EFCC to submit its evidence against Okunfulure. An EFCC representative, Felicia Paul, presented their findings and stated, "I am aware of the defendant. The Nigerian Customs Service apprehended him at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on March 28 as he was heading to America." </p> <p> He was apprehended with $30,000, an amount he neglected to report. The rising number of casualties for the Kenyan police mission in Haiti calls for an urgent review of this deadly assignment.Since the police officers were deployed to the country’s capital Port-au- Prince in June last year, two have paid the ultimate price following clashes with the killer gangs.The latest incident has left another two officers nursing serious injuries, and the situation could get worse as the Haitian gang leaders continue to target the Kenyans. The police officers have in the past one week clashed several times with the gangs.Though sanctioned by the United Nations, the Haiti mission was initially funded by the American government. However, given last November’s change of leadership, there are programmes that are beginning to suffer lack of support. This happens to be one of them.The country was stunned when it was revealed that Sh2.1 billion had been allocated to the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in the financial year 2024/2025. That is a tidy expense on an international project for a country that is struggling to fund health and education, among other key services.The MSS currently has 1,000 security personnel, about three-quarters of them from Kenya. Its objective is to restore security for Haiti to hold elections by February 2026. Heavily armed gangs have killed thousands of people since 2021.It is ironical that Kenya has not just suffered the deaths of its police officers, but is also spending its own money on a foreign mission when its own northeastern counties are increasingly coming under terrorist attacks waged by the Somalia-based Al-Shabaab group, with a number of deaths suffered. The terrorists last month abducted five chiefs in Mandera County and spirited them across the border, where they are still being held captive.The government should reassess the situation in Haiti and, perhaps, recall the police officers from harm’s way.
