  • The Nigerian artist Spenta has discussed his swiftly ascending music career within the intensely competitive entertainment sector.
  • During a recent interview with Diwida |.ng, the musician discussed how collaborating with Gentleman Mike Ejeagha influenced his career trajectory.
  • Spenta additionally shared insights into his recently launched single, ABCHD, along with details of his upcoming musical projects.

Kingsley Ifeanyi Adaoji, who performs under the stage name Spenta, is an emerging Nigerian Afrobeat musician gaining considerable momentum in today’s musical scene. In 2022, Spenta experienced a pivotal moment by entering into a recording contract with AkwaAmaka Music, a record company that has been swiftly earning acclaim for fostering new talent from Nigeria.

Ever since, Spenta’s career has soared steadily upwards, positioning him as a notable emerging talent in Nigeria’s highly competitive music sector. His musical creations have sparked significant interest, suggesting a promising horizon ahead in the realm of entertainment.

Similar to many musicians, Spenta began his journey in the choir, which sharpened his auditory skills and fostered a deep understanding of music. His initial experiences flourished into an exceptional ability to play various instruments, as he proved competent across numerous genres. This broad skill set, combined with his natural gift, enabled him to work alongside several prominent Nigerian artists such as the legendary Gentleman Mike Ejeagha and the well-known Ice Prince, highlighting his flexibility when adapting to distinct musical styles.

His most recent release, the track named ABCHD, is now gaining traction across various prominent digital music platforms, reinforcing his status as an up-and-coming artist worth watching. As Spenta describes, this composition is heavily influenced by Igbo heritage, which serves as a key element running through his creative output.

Absolutely, ABCHD is a deliberately crafted song," Spenta stated. "By observing my community, traditions, and background, I notice certain aspects are fading away. This track aims to remind everyone of our origins and our history.

He fervently emphasizes the cultural importance of the song:

I’d share this with you at no cost. If you were to ask one out of every two million Igbo people to repeat ‘Abu Chidi,’ trust me, many wouldn’t be able to do so. Yet, the phrase serves as a reminder for them to return to their origins and recall our shared history. This acts as an awakening for everyone to understand our past.

After the successful launch of ABCHD on March 28th, Spenta is basking in widespread acclaim.

He excitedly shares that they've received wonderful reviews. Everyone adores the music and rhythm.

Fans can look forward to the music video for ABCHD, as Spenta promises a steady release of fresh tunes.

I've got plenty of songs in the works. I constantly strive to provide great music for my fans and the global audience. ABC HD emphasizes to everyone—veterans, youth, and newcomers—that we should return to our origins and rediscover those fundamentals.

An important part of Spenta's path has involved his connection with AkwaAmaka Music. Interestingly, the head of this record label is his father, Ezeudo High Chief Stanley Chukwudi Obodoagwu. This special relationship has created a setting filled with unwavering backing and development opportunities.

He said:

"To begin with, for me, it’s not merely about the title,” Spenta says. “Having my dad as my supervisor makes things simpler. He challenges me beyond what I thought possible, and I feel content.”

When considering his body of work, which encompasses songs such as "Asun," "Oga Aba," "Hakuna Matata," "Baby Mo," and his joint project with Ice Prince titled "Your Body," Spenta highlights the significant influence of his record label.

The best thing that’s ever happened to me is having my label. Being his kid and working under him is an added advantage since he challenges you to surpass your limits. He never compliments unnecessarily; instead, he offers constructive criticism. If you’re doing well, he’ll let you know. Beyond music, he’s preparing me to lead the label one day. It’s more than just music for me. Though he’s been handling things so far, he envisions me becoming the public figurehead of my label.

Spenta discusses her role as the lead guitarist for Mike Ejeagha.

Spentas attributes much of the foundation of his musical journey to the influential time spent performing alongside the renowned Gentleman Mike Ejeagha.

Initially, Pa Mike Ejeagha has been an influential figure in my life since childhood, and I have had the opportunity to play as the lead guitarist for him over the years. During performances, he often called upon me. Even as a young boy, I got to collaborate with numerous artists like him. I spent several years performing in his band,” remembers Spenta warmly. “His guidance significantly shaped my musical journey.”

Not long ago, Spenta approached the seasoned folklorist to capture his distinctive voice:

I recently had the chance to meet him as I wanted to experience his music. He’s someone I hold in high regard; he’s like a mentor to me. During our meeting, we discussed various things, and he agreed to collaborate with me. His approval meant everything." This partnership led to a remake of one of Ejeagha's songs, which rapidly gained popularity on TikTok, accumulating numerous video recreations and sparking considerable internet attention. "Collaborating on this track was incredibly fun,

When questioned about what he learned from the experienced musician, Spenta highlights the importance of narrative in Ejeagha's musical style.

He shares tales through his music. His compositions are soothing, peaceful, and chilled. I picked up one or two things, not only from listening to his songs, but also by jamming with him. Observing his approach to sound, he comes across as a mellow and cool musician. Thus, I learned those qualities from him.

Since his beginnings plucking strings under the guidance of a legendary musician, Spenta has risen to become an emerging Afrobeat star. His story highlights the impact of cultural roots, influential mentors, and steadfast commitment. With 'ABCHD' still making waves and excitement mounting over future releases, Spenta is distinctly establishing a richly meaningful niche for himself within Nigeria’s vibrant music landscape.
