MOMOLAND is reuniting after a hiatus of two years.
As reported by the music industry, the six members of Momoland have recently inked an exclusive deal for group endeavors with Relationship Entertainment.
Members Hye-bin, Jane, Nayun, Joo-in, Ahin, and Nancy are anticipated to participate solely in Momoland-related endeavors through Relationship Entertainment. Ultimately, these six members, constituting the full group, have reunited under the Momoland banner.
Since its launch in November 2016, Momoland, known for their cheerful and energetic tracks like 'Boom Boom,' 'BAAM,' 'Moma Hey,' and 'I’m So Hot,' finished their seven-year exclusive agreement under the typical contract terms in 2023, thus concluding their journey with MLD Entertainment.
To put it differently, idol groups haven't managed to surpass what’s known as the 'Magical 7 Years,' during which group members either depart or teams disband after seven years since they first debuted. Back then, although his stance wasn’t particularly definitive about the future survival of the group, many in the industry anticipated difficulties in keeping the band together because of member attrition.
Recently, though, following the lead of group members from various agencies like Girls' Generation, BlackPink, Apink, Mamamoo, GOT7, and Infinite who have resumed band activities after some time apart, Momoland has also opted to keep up with their collective endeavors after a hiatus of two years, drawing back fan attention.
The focus is also on determining which activities they will undertake as Momoland. They may perform hit songs at both local and global shows, and there’s speculation about potentially releasing a new album.
Nevertheless, when performing an earlier hit song during a show, a user fee must be paid to the preceding agency holding the rights for registration, performance, and distribution of music (master rights). This requirement remains even if the audio recording is redistributed or recreated; permission from the prior agency is still necessary.
Moreover, the name Momoland cannot be used for commercial purposes without approval since the former management company has secured the trademark rights. It’s crucial to verify whether these legal matters have been settled appropriately.
Specifically, MLD Entertainment, which was once an agency, continues to exist as a legal entity, though its operational activities have significantly diminished. The previous year saw delays in employee salary payments due to severe financial troubles, and apparently, some retired individuals did not receive their severance packages either.
In the meantime, MLD Entertainment CEO Lee Hyung-jin is presently concentrating on his ventures in the Philippines and has been jointly producing a local talent search show called 'Be the Next: 9 Dreamers' with Astro Entertainment since February.
Consequently, all eyes are now on how Momoland, having reunited their entire lineup for the team’s activities, plan to connect with their fanbase.
