A 6-year-old girl died after being involved in a cycling accident in Galway today.
The Garda have stated that she passed away after an occurrence related to a large truck near the intersection of Headford Road and Sandyvale Lawn around 12:05 pm.
“A collision occurred involving a young female bicycle rider and a large goods vehicle at the intersection of Headford Road and Sandyvale Lawn,” stated a representative from An Garda Síochána.
The young girl, who was a bicycle rider, died after being involved in an accident at the age of 6. Her remains were taken to University Hospital Galway, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted later.
The truck driver, who is in his 30s and male, did not sustain any injuries.
The roadway had been shut down, and a detailed assessment by Garda Forensic CollisionInvestigators at the location has occurred. The street has since been reopened.
The Garda are requesting anyone who witnessed the incident to step forward.
They have additionally requested CCTV recordings (such as dashboard cameras) from individuals who were traveling along the section of Headford Road (N84), specifically between the intersection at Coolough Road/Headford Road and the entry point to Tirellan Heights/Headford Road within Galway city, during the time frame of 11:45 am to 12:15 pm.
