Ghanaian celebrity Yvonne Nelson has candidly discussed her subpar grades during her time at senior high school, attributing this to her keen focus on pursuing an acting career and challenging conditions at her educational institution.

In an interview with JoyNews, the actress mentioned that she prioritized entertainment over academics when attending Aggrey Memorial Senior High School. This focus led to a decline in her performance during the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Yvonne admitted that she missed her Costing and Accounting examination since she realized she wasn’t ready to ace it.
This compelled her to sign up for the November-December (NovDec) examinations, organized by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), intended for students aiming to enhance their scores or resubmit unsuccessful tests. According to her, she did not succeed during her initial NovDec attempt but managed to pass upon retrying.
She also noted that she was deeply engaged in various forms of entertainment during her school days. She explained that she belonged to a hip-hop collective where she saw herself as the equivalent of Lauryn Hill within their group, highlighting her dedication to music back then. She pointed out that her passion for entertainment dominated much of her focus, leaving minimal space for academic pursuits.
The actress, however, also attributed her subpar performance to the school atmosphere. She depicted Aggrey Memorial as an intimidating setting where the fear of being punished by educators deterred her from regularly attending classes.
Yvonne Nelson similarly highlighted issues regarding cleanliness and the quality of meals provided at the institution during her tenure. She acknowledged that circumstances could be different today; however, her personal experiences were not up to par with what would be considered satisfactory.
