The seasoned artist Lawrence Munya, known as Weezdom, has revealed the genuine cause behind his decision to step down from managing Bahati.
In 2021, Weezdom declared that he was going separate from Bahati to focus on personal development, which led to numerous messages of support for him.
How Weezdom botched tasks due to alcohol addiction.
Later, he abandoned the gospel genre and began venturing into secular music following Bahati shutting down his record label, EMB Records.
In an interview with Hot96 FM, Weezdom admitted that he botched the job due to his alcoholism at the time.
In his words:
Before I became known as Weezdom, my life involved being associated with the streets, struggling with alcoholism, and using various substances. There were times when I would take actions such as holding onto Jeff’s phone, which could be considered stealing. When I began drinking again after a period of sobriety, it felt like a significant setback. This relapse hit me hard because there is nothing worse than someone who hasn’t had a drink deciding to start again, especially when they have both the means and easy access to alcohol. Only then did I realize I was truly addicted.
He disclosed that this began impacting his job to the extent that he missed events involving Bahati.
Weezdom mentioned that he secured a position at Radio Citizen; however, due to his alcohol consumption, maintaining consistency proved challenging.
"I had to step down due to my struggle with alcoholism. Previously, drinking consumed most of my time, causing me to miss work and even crucial events. Eventually, I began attending Radio Citizen every Friday and Saturday where I co-hosted alongside Willy M Mtuva, someone who provided me with an opportunity. We initiated a show which we're still running today. I am grateful; however, I realized I couldn’t go into broadcasting since after waking up, I’d get intoxicated around seven o'clock and by eleven, when checking myself out in the mirror, I knew getting behind the microphone hungover wouldn’t do," he elaborated.
He mentioned that Bahati challenged him about associating with the wrong people and forced him to pick either managing him or continuing to drink.
