On May 31, renowned actress and director Marina Khan voiced her opinions regarding the casting choice of actor Nabeel in the series "Sher" during an open discussion on the uncut review show "Kya Drama Hai". Known for her stellar performances in popular PTV shows like "Tanhaiyan" and "Dhoop Kinare", Marina commended the overall acting prowess showcased in "Sher"; however, she confessed difficulty accepting Nabeel as the lead. She elaborated, “While I find myself appreciating the performance within 'Sher', I struggle with embracing Nabeel’s portrayal. It's commendable how bravely he takes up such a significant character; nonetheless, his presence keeps reminding me of Mehmood Sahib.”
Nabeel rose to fame through the comedy sitcom "Bulbulay," and for Marina, his comic presence still looms large over this more dramatic role. This reminded her of how Behroz Sabzwari’s iconic character Qabacha was hard for audiences to forget.
I’m not suggesting he’s performing poorly—I recognize his outstanding work—but certain expectations can develop over time. It seemed inevitable that eventually he might refer to ‘Mehtum Saudab.’
Even though she had some doubts, Marina recognized the genuine emotions that Nabeel conveyed in his acting and appreciated his venture into a different kind of character. She admitted, "It’s certainly positive to have him on screen since fresh faces are necessary. However, what struck me most was the authenticity of the emotions and sentiments he expressed."
