 Supporters are outraged about the significant increase in set restarts this season, with angry fans demanding that the contentious rule be eliminated.


 In the first four rounds of the 2025 season, there has been an increase in six-again calls, with the average per match rising from 4.7 last year to 6.


 In the initial four stages, this issue has led to an astounding 192 set restarts, causing frustration among both supporters and trainers.


 The most significant rise has been observed in penalties for ruck infractions, which have surged by 30 percent when compared to the previous season.


 The issue is especially severe within the defending team’s 20-metre area, with violations increasing almost twofold from 30 instances in 2024 to 59 this year.


 Penalties for offside in this region have increased as well, jumping from 17 to 25. This indicates that squads are intentionally allowing consecutive sets close to their own try line with the aim of halting the opposition’s offensive drive.

 Angry supporters have turned to social media platforms to express their discontent, calling for modifications to a regulation they believe is destroying the game.


 'A viewer expressed frustration saying, "After watching two Super League matches, tuning into the NRL reveals a stark contrast in the number of ruck infractions,"'


 We need referees to enforce stricter rules and call more offside and ruck penalties. The play-the-ball has become much neater and more enjoyable to watch! It’s preferable to witness additional penalties than the current chaotic situation.


 Other people completely rejected the rule.


 One spectator fumed, 'Infringements during scrums are spoiling the sport,'" while another asserted, "The six-again rule is the most idiotic and detrimental change ever made to Rugby League. It spoiled the previous World Cup and ruins countless games.


 A lot of fans think that referees are employing six-against situations to control how games progress.


 "The rule limiting team momentum to six applies is how they manage the flow of games," a disgruntled supporter commented.


 They previously did this through the assistant referee. What was once called Rugby League has grown dull and routine under V'landys.

 Ricky Stuart, the coach of the Canberra Raiders, has earlier poured gasoline on the flames by criticizing the refereeing and pointing out the discrepancies in how set restarts are granted.


 "I witness six hits each week from particular teams that target my unfortunate players, yet no action is taken," Stuart fumed following the Raiders' loss to Manly.


 The experienced mentor highlighted the stats showing that Canberra received 10 penalties as opposed to merely four for their adversaries. Moreover, the Raiders were penalized six times for ruck infractions, whereas Manly was sanctioned only once.


 The NRL authorities remain steadfast, asserting that the regulation will be upheld.


 Authorities assert that the six-against-one call aims to quicken gameplay and promote an offensive style of rugby. However, opponents contend this has had precisely the reverse effect, as squads strategically incur penalties to hinder their adversaries' advances.


 Phil Gould, who leads the Bulldogs team, has likewise criticized the six-again rule before, expressing concerns that it interrupts the flow of the match and causes frustration among both participants and spectators.


 However, consensus is not universal. Ex-player and analyst Matty Johns supports the regulation, contending that squads must improve their discipline within the ruck area.


 He maintains that the six-again policy compels teams to be accountable for their defensive setups and renders the match more equitable.

 あまり変わっていません。今もクルド人は、ルールを無視したさまざまな行動をしています。ゴミ捨てでは、指定日以外にゴミを出したり、粗大ゴミを放置して引っ越したりするなどマナーは悪いままです。最近は住民が通報すると、川口市がすぐにゴミを片付け、公共スペースを掃除するようになっているために、改善しているように見えるのでしょう。

 市はクルド人問題が注目されたので、批判を恐れているようです。外国人の迷惑行為の後始末に、大切な税金を使うべきではないと私は思います。しかし汚い場所に住みたくないという市民の方の願いは当然で、仕方なく私はそれを認めています。このようにクルド人問題では日本人が譲ることが繰り返されています。


 それどころかクルド人の態度は、最近批判が強まったためか、いらだって攻撃的になっています。川口市では最近、クルド人がスマホを持っていた川口市民を「盗撮した」と言って集団で囲んでスマホからデータを消せと迫る、警察を呼ぶというトラブルが多発しています。それなのにクルド人の中にはネットで車の暴走などの悪さ自慢を自ら映像で拡散する人がいます。行動が変ですし、彼らは「弱者の難民」ではなく、したたかで、日本人を威圧することもあるのです。


 
 ―川口市には、さまざまな国籍、民族の人が集まっています。クルド人の問題行為が目立つのは、理由があるのでしょうか。
 


 他の外国人と川口市民の間でも、ゴミ出し、騒音、危険運転などの問題は起きています。しかしクルド人は問題行動の数が多く、他の外国人と違って改善しません。その態度は異様です。


 川口市は、昔から外国人が多く住み共存してきました。住民は日本の中で、外国人慣れした人々でしょう。私にも外国人の友人・知人がいます。そして住民には他人や外国人に優しい人が多い街です。また2014年から川口市長になった奥ノ木信夫さんは、多文化共生、外国人にも住みやすい街づくりを、市の政策の柱にしました。


 そうした川口市民でも我慢しきれなくなったのがクルド人問題です。10年以上前から問題を耐えてきたが、それがもう無理になって抗議の声が広がったという印象です。

 川口にヘイトなどない
</h2>

 
 ―メディアや活動家、人権弁護士は、川口で「ヘイト」（他民族への憎悪）や差別があると主張します。しかし私はそんな行為を川口で見聞きしていません。
 


 その通りです。川口では外国人への、ヘイトも差別もほとんどありません。逆に川口市民が外国人に気を使い、我慢をしています。クルド人が「日本人に差別された」とメディアやSNSで主張する事件がありますが、調べるとどれも実際にあったのか疑わしいものばかりです。


 最近、市外からのクルド人批判者がデモをし、それに対して「カウンター」と称する批判者が騒ぐとか、自警団やユーチューバーがウロウロしています。こうした騒ぎをメディアが「ヘイトがあった」などと報道したりしています。しかし、そんな動きに川口市民はほとんど参加していません。はっきり言って、こうした人々は迷惑です。市外の人が起こす例外的な動きを取り上げて、川口市の評判を落とし、川口市民を「ヘイトしている」などという中傷や誹謗するようなメディアの報道や、市外の人による批評はやめてほしいです。


 埼玉クルド人問題、埼玉県の外国人問題は、外国人の行動による治安悪化や迷惑行為によって外国人を含めた地域住民が迷惑をしているという話です。その本筋を忘れないでほしいし、差別問題にすり替えないでもらいたいです。犯罪者を「クルド人だから」「外国人だから」という理由で擁護し、また被害を受けた日本人の訴えを黙殺する行為は、逆に日本人や埼玉県民を怒らせ、地域社会を混乱させ、法を守るクルド人や外国人を暮らしにくくさせていることに気づくべきです。


 また外から騒ぐ人の中には、「日本人が外国人に配慮しろ」「他文化を理解しろ」と、ズレた要求をする人がいます。私たち川口市民は、その努力を10年以上重ねて、うまくいきませんでした。私からすると見えている問題を見えないふりをして、きれいごとを唱えているように思えてしまいます。


 
 ―奥富さんも、この問題に向き合う人も「ヘイト」「差別」と批判を受けます。
 


 私には外国人への差別感情などありません。在日外国人の地元の友人は何人もいます。川口の街づくりでも、外国人を含めたさまざまな人たちから意見を集めています。私は、2015年から市議会議員をしています。福祉を使いやすくしたいという思いから政治家になりました。


 私はクルド人の集住地域に住んでいます。最初は政治家として外国人、クルド人との共生を訴えて来ました。一緒に清掃活動、意見交換会を呼びかけました。ところが、そうした共生の取り組みは、ほとんど効果がありませんでした。彼らの問題行為は続き、言っても改善せず、元からいた住民の方の不満と不安が増える一方でした。共生をこちらから求めても、相手の外国人にその意思がなければ、それは実現できないのです。私や一部の市民には、クルド人、また日本人関係者による脅迫、嫌がらせも続いています。そのようなことを行う人たちと仲良くするのは難しいでしょう。


 そしてこの現実を見ずに、苦しんでいる人々から実態を聞かずに、私や埼玉クルド人問題を説明する人を「ヘイトだ」「差別だ」と攻撃する動きがあります。これはおかしいし、当事者として不愉快です。自由な議論を萎縮させて、問題解決を妨げます。面白がって批判をする人、その批判で利益を得ようとする人もやめてほしいと思います。それが問題に直面している埼玉県民の願いです。

 「多文化共生」のスローガン押し付けにうんざり
</h2>

 
 ―問題解決で注意しなければならないことは何でしょうか。
 


 一部のクルド人が違法・触法行為をしたからといって、すべてのクルド人・外国人が犯罪者であるかのようなレッテル貼りや誹謗中傷はあってはなりません。正規の資格を持ち、真面目に暮らすクルド人や外国人にとっても、法を犯すクルド人や外国人は迷惑でしかないでしょう。そして問題行為をする外国人は私たち川口市民の隣に住んでいます。川口市民は外国人との争いを誰も望んでいません。


 だからこそ司法機関と行政が、法を適切に執行し、クルド人の犯罪を見逃したり、不法滞在するクルド人を放置したり、逮捕しても不起訴にしたりするようなことはあってはなりません。これは他の外国人についても同じです。不法行為をする一部外国人が利益をあげている、犯罪が増えているように見える今の日本の状況は、日本人と外国人の関係を悪化させるだけです。


 取り締まりが緩いという印象が県民の間に広がることによって、埼玉県では、行政や治安・司法機関への信頼が壊れ始めているように見えます。これは非常に危険です。地域社会が心の側面から壊れてしまいます。


 
 ―国は事実上の移民拡大政策を進め、「多文化共生」というスローガンを各地で掲げています。
 


 川口市民の間では「多文化共生」というスローガンを、身構えて聞く、嫌がる雰囲気が出ています。「『多文化共生』ではなく、『他文化強制』だ。もうこの言葉を聞きたくない」という趣旨の市民の声を何度も聞きました。私も同じ考えです。


 私たちは誰も求めていないのに、近所に外国人が集住し、その中に迷惑行為をする人がいて困っている。その状況で「多文化共生」を唱えられると、押し付けられたような不快さを抱いています。


 多文化共生という理想を否定する日本人はいないでしょう。しかし、それを唱える人、また政府や政治家は、理想と現実の間にはギャップがあることを知ってほしいです。


 また埼玉クルド人問題は、移民問題というより、不法滞在者の管理の失敗という問題です。しかし数千人のクルド人さえ管理できない日本の行政が、大量に外国人を日本に入れて大丈夫なのか心配です。私の周囲の川口市民が同じ思いを持っています。

<h2>
 法を外国人に適用する当たり前の対策を
</h2>

 
 ―この問題解決の方向はどのようなものであるべきでしょうか。
 


 私の主張は当たり前のことです。素行の悪い外国人による不法行為への法適用を行うこと。日本に住む資格のない外国人には、本国に帰ってもらうこと。そして各外国人が迷惑行為の是正を自発的に行い、居住者としての責任を果たすように要求することです。また実際に外国人にはそうしてほしい。そしてこれは私だけではなく、川口市民の多くが同じ主張です。


 ところがこの当たり前ができていない。外国人問題で関係者が見たくないものを見えないふりをして放置してきた。それが大問題になって川口市民を苦しめています。故郷を守りたい。平穏に暮らしたい。それだけです。


 外国人の起こしている問題に、私たち川口市民は苦悩しています。なぜ埼玉に住む日本人の声を、聞かない日本人がいるのか不思議です。私たちの話を冷静に聞いてください。

 Wednesday about the “disappointing” decision to cancel because “it’s not possible for me to safely travel outside and then back inside the US,” she wrote.


 Hazelwood, originally from Italy, now resides in the U.S. She was
 originally booked for several U.K. appearances,
 including one with
 “Summer in the City” author Alex Aster
 . It's unclear whether Hazelwood is a naturalized U.S. citizen, visa or green card holder. Hazelwood's reps at Penguin Random House told USA TODAY they couldn't comment on the situation.

 “Believe me, this is not a decision I made lightly. I know a lot of you have already made traveling plans, and I know how inconveniencing it is to cancel so close to the tour,” Hazelwood wrote. “All I can say is: I hope things change quickly, I hope to be able to travel abroad soon, and I am deeply thankful for your support and your understanding.”


 Hazelwood’s decision comes
 amid concerns from tourists,
 noncitizens and visa and green card holders about the
 Trump
 administration's recent travel bans and border actions.


 A flurry of legal U.S. residents were detained or deported
 following cellphone searches
 at airports. In one recent instance, a British tourist was allegedly
 detained for nearly two weeks
 after attempting to travel from the U.S. to Canada. In another,
 “an administrative error”
 led to the
 deportation
 of an El Salvador native who had won a court order from an immigration judge to prevent his removal. A Venezuelan soccer player who was awaiting a ruling on his asylum claim was recently deported on suspicion of being a gang member in what his attorney said was a
 misunderstanding about his soccer-themed tattoo.

 several college activists
 and academics are
 proceeding legally against the Trump administration
 after
 they were detained
 and informed them that their lawful permanent resident status was being canceled. The Trump administration has taken steps to
 cancel visa status for numerous foreign students
 across the U.S.


 Hazelwood boasts an academic pedigree, having
 relocated to the U.S. to work on a doctoral degree
 In the field of neuroscience, before dedicating herself fully to writing "STEMinist" romance novels, she worked as a professor.


 Supporters quickly flooded the comments section to back Hazelwood’s choice.


 "Take whatever measures necessary to ensure your own safety and comfort! ❤️ Perhaps this will demonstrate to those whose votes influence such choices being implemented how their actions affect others," someone commented.


 "I hope those who cast their votes for Republicans refrain from picking up another book by Ali Hazelwood. It’s quite disheartening that such a prominent modern romance author feels too afraid to travel abroad due to potential entry restrictions upon her return; this situation, though understandable, remains nauseating," said one commenter.

 La Oficina de Inmigración y Control Aduanero de Estados Unidos (ICE, por sus siglas en inglés) no está operando ni ha obtenido alguna pista mediante la línea informativa del ICE provenientes de los grupos conocidos como Betar y Canary Mission", informó un vocero del DHS a CNN.

 De acuerdo con Glick, cuando los informantes descubren estudiantes o profesores sin identificar, Betar ha empleado la tecnología de reconocimiento facial, inteligencia artificial y datos obtenidos de diversas fuentes públicas como posts en redes sociales y menciones mediáticas para facilitar su identificación.


 "Una vez que se hizo público entre nuestras redes que estábamos llevando a cabo este procedimiento, e inclusive antes de unirme a Betar, ya me empezaron a llegar mensajes desde diferentes partes del país", comentó Glick, quien mencionó haber renunciado a su cargo en Betar para enfocarse en otras iniciativas.


 El perfil X de Glick publica fotos y videos de su reciente visita al Capitolio, así como vídeos donde parece enfrentarse a individuos en protestas pro palestinas. A pesar de haber dejado Betar, asegura que desea revelar lo que llama un "esfuerzo concertado" dirigido contra la comunidad judía.


 Betar también asumió recentemente la culpa por unas cuantas calcomanías inflamatorias que aparecieron en un poste en el campus de la Escuela de Leyes de Harvard la semana anterior. La institución envió una misiva a los alumnos reprochándolas y argumentando que su ubicación fue contraria al reglamento escolar.


 Una de las calcomanías indicaba: "No seas Mahmood Khalil. Si deseas ser racista, hazlo en privado #JFB (Los judíos se defienden)", tal como mencionó un trabajador universitario conocedor del asunto. Además, menciona que se centrará en documentar a aquellos que respalden iniciativas para boicotear, desinvertir o sancionar a Israel o a compañías vinculadas con este país, aspectos que han sido objeto de controversia.

 Una representante de Canary Mission le dijo a CNN mediante un mensaje de correo electrónico que el colectivo es neutral en cuanto a política e independiente del gobierno de Trump. Indicaron además que sus investigaciones son puestas al descubierto después de rigurosas comprobaciones de antecedentes, sin responder así mismo a si alguien específico los lidera dentro de Canary Mission.

 “Están creando estos perfiles y estas personalidades para nosotros que están muy alejadas de la realidad, tomando lo que decimos y tergiversándolo para que sirva a su narrativa de incitar miedo, daño y violencia”, dijo Rasikh.

 Los expertos en privacidad dicen que, si bien las actividades de los grupos plantean serias preocupaciones de que la exposición podría impedir que las personas se manifiesten, sus acciones pueden estar dentro de los límites legales porque se basan en información disponible públicamente.


 Grupos como Betar y Canary Mission toman información disponible en una variedad de fuentes dispares, incluidos canales de redes sociales, fotografías, afiliaciones escolares, perfiles de LinkedIn e incluso direcciones de domicilio.


 Pero usar información públicamente disponible para compilar una lista de objetivos de deportación –y compartirla con funcionarios del Gobierno que pueden usarla para dirigir la acción policial únicamente sobre la base de sus opiniones políticas– genera inquietudes de que se esté violando el derecho de las personas a la libertad de expresión y a la privacidad, dijo Megan Iorio, consejera principal y directora amicus del Centro de Información sobre Privacidad Electrónica, un grupo de investigación y defensa sin fines de lucro en la ciudad de Washington.


 “Aunque a la gente no le guste lo que dicen, tienen derecho a decirlo”, dijo Iorio.


 “Además, lo que hacen es etiquetar a estas personas como antisemitas”, dijo Iorio. “Así que esta etiqueta, que conlleva un gran peso y puede tener implicaciones para su reputación, y ahora también para su posibilidad de permanecer en el país o evitar sanciones penales por el simple hecho de hablar, es enorme”.

 Sophia Cope, abogada sénior del equipo de libertades civiles de la Electronic Frontier Foundation, dice que un problema principal sería si el Gobierno usara la información de los grupos para castigar la libertad de expresión legalmente protegida.


 “La gente que va a protestar debe entender que se está exponiendo a los videos de los celulares de otras personas, a los medios que están ahí”, dijo Cope.


 Pero “si el Gobierno actúa con base en información para castigar a quienes son víctimas de lo que parece ser una actividad legal, ese es el verdadero problema”, dijo.

 Pertama-tama mari kita ungkapkan rasa syukur kita kepada Allah SWT karena telah melimpahkan karunia keselamatan sehingga kita dapat bertemu lagi di ruang ini untuk menghadiri acara halalbihalal tanpa ada hambatan berarti.


 Kedua, jangan lupakan kami menyebut salam serta shalawat atas Nabi kita Muhammad SAW, yang telah membawa agama Islam sesuai kehendak Tuhan Yang Maha Esa. Mudah-mudahan kita dapat merasakan intervensi baik dari beliau dan akhirnya bertemu dalam surganya Sang Khalik.


 Di awal hari ini, pada kesempatan istimewa ini, saya ingin menuturkan ucapan terkait kepentingan merawat hubungan baik antar sesama. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengeraskan ikatan persaudaraan kita.


 Saya mengerti, sebagian di antara kita mungkin kurang bersemangat dengan penyambutan, terutama jika terlalu formal. Namun, mudah-mudahan apa yang akan saya bagikan hari ini dapat memberi dorongan agar ikatan kebersamaan kita bertambah erat.


 Hadirin yang dirahmati Allah,


 Silaturahmi adalah istilah yang berasal dari bahasa Arab, yaitu Shilath dengan makna 'perkawinan', dan ar-Rahim yang berarti 'keluarga'. Dengan demikian, kesimpulannya silaturahmi merujuk pada ikatan relasi yang muncul akibat perkawinan atau koneksi keluarga yang dibentuk lewat tali pernikahan.


 Walaupun begitu, arti dari silaturahmi sungguh amat luas, tidak terbatas pada hubungan keluarga biologis saja. Sebaliknya, tiap Muslim di dunia ini adalah saudara satu sama lain, mencakup pula individu yang kini sedang berada di samping para hadirin.


 Ini dijelaskan dengan jelas dalam Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Hujurat Ayat 10, yang berbunyi bahwa sesungguhnya para mu'min itu seperti keluarga. Karena alasan tersebut, sebagai kaum yang seimanan, kita wajib selalu melestarikan ikatan kekeluargaaan.


 Hadirin sekalian,


 Merawat tali persaudaraan dengan keluarga mempunyai berbagai kebaikan serta ganjaran yang amat besar. Orang Islam yang senantiasa menjalin relasi baik dengan kerabatnya niscaya akan diberi kemakmuran rizki, diperpanjang usianya, dan mendapat kesempatan untuk mencapai akhir hidup yang mulia.


 Seperti disebutkan dalam hadits yang bunyinya: "Siapakah yang menginginkan agar umur panjangnya diperpanjang, rezeki luasannya dibesarkan, serta terhindar dari kematian yang mengerikan, haruslah ia bertakwa kepada Allah dan menjaga tali persaudaraan." (Diriwayatkan oleh Imam Baihaqi dan Imam Hakim).

 They justified their decision because they thought the house had been built unlawfully, lacking all required permissions.


 According to the 310 law, any person or organization undertaking activities that involve altering or modifying the riverbed or nearby banks of a continuously flowing stream must secure the necessary permissions from the local conservation district, as mentioned by The Flathead Beacon.


 Nevertheless, the pair assert that the Flathead County Planning Office granted them approval, stating they had carte blanche to use the land however they wished since it is located in an un-zoned region, as per their information.

 Nevertheless, the pair opted to file lawsuits in both state and federal courts, contending that the District had overstepped its bounds.

 The District alleged that the Amblers were attempting to locate the ambiguous zone since they asserted that Montana holds no authority over the property due to its location within a national park, which enjoys federal protection. However, they simultaneously argued that the federal government cannot claim access because the land is considered privately owned.


 Nevertheless, the District asserted that both state and local laws apply to private property, irrespective of its location, even within Glacier National Park.


 However, the couple contended that when they transferred ownership of the land, Montana had ceded jurisdiction to the United States, as stated by their attorney, Trent Baker, according to Hungry Horse News.


 At the heart of the organization's case is the assertion that even though the property is situated inside Glacier National Park, this does not absolve it from complying with Montana’s state regulations, notably the Montana Natural Streambed and Land Protection Act (NSLPA).


 In contrast, the pair contended that the Steambed Act was enacted only in 1976, which means that Montana's state laws were not eligible for federal recognition, as reported by SFGate.

 "I stand in support of the Bill introduced by my ministerial colleague. I have been carefully hearing the discussion going on since 12 noon...I feel that there are several misconceptions among several Members, either genuinely or politically. Also, through this House, attempts are being made to spread those misconceptions across the country," he said.

 said that there is no provision in the bill for appointment of non-Muslims in the processes related to the religion.
 
 
 "Waqf Act and
 Board
 came into effect in 1995. All the arguments about the inclusion of non-Muslims inclusion are about interference in the Waqf. First of all, no non-Muslim would come into the Waqf. Understand this clearly...There is no such provision to include any non-Muslim among those who manage the religious institutions; we do not want to do this...This is a huge misconception that this Act will interfere with the religious conduct of Muslims and interfere with the property donated by them. This misconception is being spread to instil fear among minorities for their vote bank," he said.
 
 
 "Where will non-Muslim members be included? In
 Council
 and Waqf
 Board
 . What would they do? They won't run any religious activity. They would only look after the administration of property donated by someone under Waqf Law, whether it is being done as per law, whether the property is being used for the intent with which it was donated," he added.

 In addition to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Rijiju introduced the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2024, for deliberation and approval in the Lok Sabha.
 
 
 The legislation was previously introduced in the Lok Sabha back in August of the previous year, and a Joint Parliamentary Committee, led by BJP representative Jagdambika Pal, reviewed it.
 
 
 The proposed legislation intends to revise the Act from 1995. This new Bill focuses on enhancing the governance and oversight of waqf estates within India.  In reaction to President Donald Trump's executive order prohibiting diversity, equity, and inclusion resources and guidelines at federal institutions, the U.S. Naval Academy withdrew 381 books from its library collection.


 Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently instructed the Naval Academy to examine its book list and eliminate texts that advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), according to US officials.

 Aside from taking books out of the Naval Academy library, administrators also eliminated historical artifacts recognizing Jewish women who graduated from the institution at the Commodore Uriah P. Levy Center and Jewish Chapel.


 Their dismissal was an error, and Commander Ashley Hockycko stated that "the Naval Academy leadership will promptly initiate a review and rectify the improper removal."


 Various books and resources were taken out by the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.


 Included among the items removed were publications and resources about females who fought during the Civil War, online mentions of Kristin Griest, the first female to graduate from the Army’s Ranger School, as well as educational content covering the contributions of the Tuskegee Airmen and the Women's Air Force Service Pilots during World War II.

 PUTRAJAYA: A previous nursery school instructor who is contesting her conversion to Islam at the age of four will now get the chance to argue her case in front of the High Court in Seremban.


 This follows the Court of Appeal’s unanimous decision today to reinstate the 47-year-old woman’s suit to allow for the merits of the case to be heard.


 A three-member bench chaired by Justice Lee Swee Seng said this was not an unsustainable case for the suit to be struck out.


 “It is premature to annul the suit when her constitutional right to freedom of religion runs contrary to what is claimed by the religious authorities,” Lee said, adding that the civil trial court has to decide if she was never a Muslim or if it was a case of renunciation.


 Also on the bench hearing the appeal were Justices Wong Kian Kheong and Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin.


 A case management will be held on April 14 to fix the hearing dates.


 Last year, judicial commissioner Haldar Abdul Aziz ruled that the civil courts had no power to hear the woman’s case as it fell under the jurisdiction of the shariah court.


 He said the woman’s originating summons in the civil court against the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council, the national registration department (JPN) and government constituted an abuse of court process.


 Haldar said Article 121(1A) of the Federal Constitution demarcated the boundaries between the civil and shariah courts, and that each court was only permitted to hear and decide cases within their respective jurisdictions.


 The woman claims that her father, who became a Muslim, unilaterally converted her when she was four.


 The woman, now a mother of two, said she had been raised by her maternal aunt since then and had never recited the declaration of faith (kalima shahada) nor practised the Islamic way of life.


 She is seeking a declaration that she was never a Muslim, and wants JPN to change her religious status to non-Muslim.


 Attorneys S Karthigesan, A R Thamayanthy, and Ranunha Devi advocated on behalf of the woman. Counsel Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar supported the state religious authorities, whereas senior federal counsel Amalina Zainal Mokhtar spoke for JPN.

 “This body should also initiate discussions with relevant authorities on legalising the status of Hindu temple lands to provide long-term security and protection for places of worship,” it said.


 MHS said that while recent narratives have suggested that many Hindu temples operate illegally, it is unfair to do so without considering their historical and cultural contexts.


 It said that historically, numerous temples were established during the British colonial era with appropriate approvals.
