
The initial glimpse of a four-episode, sanctioned documentary series exploring the life and creations of Tim Burton has been released.
The documentary, directed by Tara Wood, 21 Years: Richard Linklater ) showcases several of the most prominent celebrities featured in Burton's body of work.
Included among them is the frequent collaborator Johnny Depp ( Edward Scissorhands , Ed Wood , Alice in Wonderland ), Winona Ryder ( Edward Scissorhands , Beetlejuice and its follow-up), Helena Bonham Carter ( Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , Sweeney Todd and Burton’s former partner) and Michael Keaton ( Batman , Batman Returns ).
The documentary features renowned composer Danny Elfman, who frequently collaborates with Burton.
“I’d really enjoy exploring his mind – this realm where these characters reside,” Ryder states in the preview.
Johnny Depp remarks, "He’s a director who embodies artistry through visuals and concepts; he’s innovative and insightful. There’s a great deal of depth to his thinking. Tim truly stands out as one of the genuine talents."
The yet-to-be-titled series marks the first time the renowned director has backed a project centered around his own work. It features exclusive interviews, previously unseen art pieces, and an unreleased stop-motion short film, as stated in a press release.
Part 1 of the series was already showcased at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival.
"Through his filmography, Tim shares his life narrative, guiding viewers on an immensely inspirational trip across several decades of movie history, brimming with profound personal revelations, ardor, and challenges," according to Wood.
The initial episode of the show was previewed at the 2024 Tribeca Festival, earning significant praise from viewers.
The producers include Wood, Joe Clarke, and Jake Zortman. The executive producers are Allen Gilmer, Riki Rushing, Berge Garabedian, Robert C. McGirr, and Lorraine Lamb.
