On Thursday, Hyderabad’s Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha sternly admonished private hospitals for performing unnecessary cesarean sections. He instructed health authorities to impose strict measures against these institutions and requested improved audits of all C-section procedures.

Rajanarasimha instructed the officials to make sure that pregnant women understand the benefits of natural childbirth and the drawbacks of cesarean sections.

Stressing the significance of boosting natural births in government hospitals, he suggested offering midwifery training to nurses working at these institutions. He also highlighted the necessity for enhancing the infrastructure of maternal and child healthcare centers to attract more expecting mothers to opt for public hospitals. He mentioned that every effort must be taken to alleviate the distress experienced by pregnant women, new moms, and babies in government hospitals, especially because of the high temperatures during summers.

The minister likewise asked about the progress of staffing vacancies in government hospitals. Authorities informed him that more than 8,000 roles had been filled the previous year, and they were now working on accommodating another 6,200 openings.
