Bengaluru (Karnataka), India, April 3 (ANI): Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra lauded the Central Government on Thursday for the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 and stated that this is a historical adjustment that had been long awaited.

"A Historic Milestone for Bharat: The passing of the Unified Waqf Management Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development (UMEED) Bill, 2024 marks a significant rectification that has been awaited for a long time and is greatly needed," wrote Vijayendra on X.

He went on to say that for many years, the Waqf Board operated as a dictatorship within a larger state structure.

"The declaration of lands as Waqf occurred without prior notification, functioned opaquely, and suppressed legitimate landowners' voices. This reflected the appeasing political approach of Congress, resulting in an entity endowed with extensive authority, devoid of supervision, and lacking responsibility. The recent amendment ultimately disbands this framework. Specifically, it repeals Section 40, which permitted any piece of land to be designated as Waqf property instantly. Additionally, it mandates governmental scrutiny in cases involving property disagreements. Furthermore, it incorporates openness and constitutional safeguards over the board’s jurisdiction,” the statement elucidated.

The BJP The Karnataka leader stated that the bill embodies Dr B.R. Ambedkar's concept of checks and balances, emphasizing that no institution should be beyond examination and no community should stand above the legal system.

This goes beyond mere reform; it embodies Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision of checks and balances, ensuring no institution remains unexamined and no group stands above the legal system. The Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, deserves praise for reinstating constitutional equilibrium and safeguarding the rights of all Indians—without bias, prejudice, or concessions,” he stated.

Earlier today, the Lok Sabha approved the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 Following an exhausting marathon and intense debate where club members argued passionately, INDIA bloc strongly objected to the legislation while the BJP And its partners strongly backed it, stating that it would introduce transparency and improve the effectiveness of Waqf boards.

The bill was approved following the rejection of amendments proposed by the opposition members. The session continued past midnight to ensure the legislation was enacted.

Speaker Om Birla subsequently declared the outcome of the vote. He stated, "Pending any errors, Ayes 288, Noes 232. The motion has been approved with a majority supporting it."

After integrating suggestions from the Joint Parliamentary Committee that reviewed the initial legislation, which was presented in August of the previous year, the updated bill was reintroduced by the government.

This legislation aims to revise the 1995 Act with the objective of enhancing the governance and oversight of waqf assets within India. Its primary goals include addressing deficiencies present in earlier versions of the law, boosting the effectiveness of Waqf councils, refining the registration procedures, and amplifying the utilization of technological solutions for maintaining waqf documentation.
