Luke 'Ming' Flanagan is thinking of running for President.

The life-long pot smoker and Independent MEP says he will make a decision in the coming weeks and said he has every chance of winning if he runs.

The popular Roscommon politician headed the poll in the Midlands North West constituency in last summer’s European election.

He thinks he has what it takes to become a formidable left-wing contender aimed at preventing the right from reclaiming the Aras.

Luke informed his local Shannonside Radio station: "During the European election, I contested an area encompassing 15 counties. I secured the top position and received vote transfers from all over, despite this being seen as a socially conservative region."

I'll also manage to secure votes in Dublin as well as in the Ireland South region of the nation.

The initial question one must consider when contemplating running for President is whether they stand a realistic chance of winning. I firmly believe I have that opportunity, hence I am not dismissing the idea outright.

On multiple occasions, he has been found guilty of possessing marijuana for his own use.

He is wedded to a wife and they have three daughters together.

President Michael D. Higgins will step down from their position after serving for 14 years towards the end of this year.

The Presidential Election It will take place in November.

The initial frontrunners for the top position in the country are Mairead McGuinness and Michael McDowell .

The left has not rallied around a single candidate as of yet.
