Sony Music West Africa effectively organized "In Her Element," a significant two-day gathering during Women's Month. This event took place on March 27 and 28, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria. It convened prominent female executives, influential cultural figures, and up-and-coming artists to inspire and prepare women for roles within the media, music, and entertainment sectors.

By hosting panel discussions, mentorship sessions, networking events, and live performances, "In Her Element" created a vital platform for conversation, professional growth, and communal connection.

On the inaugural day of the initiative, participants got an inside look at the challenges of leadership, self-governance, content production, and professional growth within the creative industry. The attendees interacted with a distinguished group of panelists who offered their insights and individual experiences.

Speakers included Dr. Olori Boye-Ajayi a well-known strategist and individual change mentor, Solape Hammond , co-founder of Impact Hub Lagos, and Sola Obagbemi The event was convened by The Bloom Conversations With Sola, focusing on topics such as leadership growth, conquering impostor syndrome, and achieving financial independence, with Tolu Thompson serving as moderator.

Conversations about the future of work, content production, telecommuting, and starting businesses included perspectives from Adeife Adeoye , who founded Remote WorkHER, Tilewa Odedina , who leads the culinary and restaurant operations at Food Court, Nonye Udeogu , a style and life blogger, and Elechi Bose Oddelm branding consultant at Printcess.

A significant panel delved into the economics of Afrobeats, featuring prominent figures from the sector like Kikelola Ojewale From Denton ACAS-Law, media figure Moet Abebe , and music industry executive as well as the founder of Two Things, Sarah Lorentzen offering specialized knowledge on income sources, collaborations, and strategic placement for thriving in the industry.

On the second day, March 28, the event amped up the excitement with a networking mixer that included live shows from several of the most dynamic artists in today’s African music scene: Gyakie , Winny , Shoday , Morravey , and Solis , with DJ Latitude on deck and hypewoman Melody M.I.A keeping the crowd engaged.

"In Her Element" demonstrated that once these pathways are accessible, the potential becomes boundless. To achieve this, we commit to nurturing their development through funding for advanced studies, professional qualifications, and tailored training programs designed to ensure they stand out as leaders in every setting. This endeavor transcends fleeting trends—it embodies an ongoing commitment—and we anticipate expanding upon it annually.

For the subsequent stage of the In Her Element campaign, Sony Music West Africa is initiating a mentorship program aimed at supporting women within the creative sector.

Together with Music Business Academy Africa and Girls in Afrobeats, this program plans to choose 20 ambitious women professionals and pair each one with an experienced mentor from either the UK or West Africa. The purpose behind this effort is to offer practical advice, insider knowledge about the industry, and chances for professional growth, thereby nurturing future female trailblazers in the entertainment sector.

Supported by Pepsi NG, The Guardian, Echo Room, Kairos Hub, Yanga Beauty, Music Business for Africa, 512 Activity, Printcess, Leading Vibe, Red Bull, Food Court, Meji Meji, Miskay Boutique, and Art Therapy, this event represented a significant step forward in boosting female representation and leadership within the entertainment sector.
