 The smaller Indian cities have been selected as hosts for the 2025 ICC Women's World Cup because of a rotation system for venue selection. Due to this same system, some stadiums that hosted matches during this year’s ODI World Cup won’t be utilized again for the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, revealed an insider from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

 The five Indian cities of Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Mullanpur, Indore, and Thiruvananthapuram are being considered as potential venues for hosting fixtures in the forthcoming Women's Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to commence around late September. However, an official match timetable has yet to be published.
</p>
<p>
 The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been criticized over its choice to hold the esteemed 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup in lesser-known places. A representative from within the Indian cricket administration stated, “Since the BCCI plans to organize the 2026 World Cup, it was agreed upon to allocate matches across various smaller towns so as not to overlook their opportunity to stage global events like this one. Consequently, those stadiums selected for hosting women's world cup fixtures will be excluded from being part of the upcoming men’s T20 World Cup.”

 Next year, India and Sri Lanka will co-host the men's T20 World Cup, with venue details yet to be announced. Concurrently, India will also organize both the Women's ODI World Cup and an additional ICC women’s event, which signifies their return to hosting such tournaments for the first time since 2013 and 2016, respectively.

<p>
 The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Punjab, will be hosting the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup finale. The same venue serves as the home field for the Punjab Kings in the IPL. Earlier women’s world cup finales took place at venues such as Lord's, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Hagley Oval, Newlands, and the Dubai International Stadium.

 In order to potentially include Pakistani involvement in the Cricket World Cup, the BCCI chose Thiruvananthapuram as one of the host cities. This decision was based on an earlier agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board and because Thiruvananthapuram has special immigration and visa services not available at other considered venues. Should Pakistan qualify, their games would take place elsewhere; however, Thiruvananthapuram’s positioning aids in making travel logistics easier for competing teams from different regions.

 The ICC Women's Cricket Qualifiers 2025 will be held in Pakistan starting from April 9th. This event features teams from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, West Indies, Thailand, and Scotland, where the top two performing nations will secure their spots in the World Cup.

 On September 11, 2021, when fire consumed the historic residence of the de Peralta clan in Dingras, Ilocos Norte, irreplaceable records, photographs, and writings detailing the existence of Enriqueta “Quitang” Guerrero de Peralta were lost. However, this tragedy ignited a fresh drive among her heirs and admirers to commemorate her heritage.
</p>
<p>
 One of her accomplishments was successfully pushing for the official recognition of Mother’s Day nationally in 1921. She also advocated for the voting rights of Filipino women and played a key role in founding puericulture centers in Ilocos Norte to cater to the health needs of mothers and children. Throughout all this work, she composed a collection of poems in Ilocano which granted her the distinction as the Poetess of Ilocandia.
</p>
<p>
 The story of her life is highlighted in the book "Enriqueta de Peralta: A Woman Ahead of Her Time," authored by her grandniece Minda de Peralta Acacio Garcia. This publication delves into both her biography and poetry, providing an insightful look at her impact between 1882 and 1940.
</p>
<p>
 The book launch events occurred in Taguig, New York City, and Hawaii, supported by the International Professional Association of Dinglas (IPAD). The latest event was conducted in Dinglas on March 22 coinciding with the town fiesta, where local officials along with members from the Zonta Club Ilocos Norte participated.
</p>
<p>
 The significance was heightened as well due to the presence of her full-sized memorial in Dingras. Constructed by the National Historical Commission in 1989 at the site in front of their house on Peralta Street, Barangay Albano, it still remains unscathed by the fire.
</p>
<p>

To coincide with the unveiling, it underwent restoration and was painted in shades of gold and white to emphasize her accomplishments, such as her efforts towards establishing Mother’s Day and securing voting rights for women.

 The event included a wreath-laying ceremony conducted by local authorities and descendants of de Peralta. Additionally, Patricia de Peralta Quiason, who is the granddaughter of Enriqueta’s sibling Abraham, delivered a talk providing more details about her existence and the endeavors to uphold her legacy.
</p>
<p>
 Someone might wonder about the significance of emphasizing her contributions and the roots of Mother's Day celebrations in the Philippines as the global community looks forward to observing it every May. The book addresses this by highlighting the central importance of family in Filipino culture, noting that "a strong bond rooted in affection, comprehension, and regard connects all members within a family unit, particularly honoring mothers who oversee domestic life and nurture their families."
</p>

 The book features pictures of the 1921 Circular No. 33 signed by American Governor Charles Yeater, along with subsequent declarations issued by various Philippine presidents. Despite changes in the commemoration date throughout history, this custom continues to be robust, particularly amongst older individuals who recall paying tribute to their moms using flower brooches.
</p>
<p>
 Her cause included advocating for women’s voting rights. Serving as the head of the Women's Club of Ilocos Norte, Enriqueta worked across Ilocos and surrounding areas to gather backing for allowing women to cast their votes. She was particularly vital due to her organizing abilities at a juncture where getting legal endorsement took longer than expected.
</p>
<p>
 At the event’s unveiling, Ilocos Norte Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos addressed the audience, stating that she sees herself as a "recipient of her initiatives." She explained, “Being a woman allows me to pursue political ambitions like running for office… Her dedication as a public official inspires me.” Adding further, she mentioned that as she aims to become the next governor in the upcoming May elections, she feels more prepared to take on this responsibility due to the commendable efforts of Enrigueta.
</p>
<p>
 During the event, Ilocos Norte Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos highlighted how Enriqueta’s contributions facilitated greater opportunities for women in leadership positions. Meanwhile, in New York, Consul General Senen Mangalilla pondered over the insights drawn from her life — which included themes of purpose, dedication to public service, and the merging of artistic expression with activism.
</p>

 Enriqueta, who was the fifth among eight siblings born to nationalistic parents named Isidoro de Peralta and Monica Guerrero, grew up in an environment filled with patriotism and remained single throughout her life. Her niece, Filipinas de Peralta Acacio Guerrero, carried forward her public service endeavors and made sure that Enriqueta received acknowledgment from the National Historical Commission.

<p>
 In 1918, Enriqueta began her career as the secretary for a women’s club and swiftly ascended to become its president before taking up the role of auditor at the Rural Credit Association. Under her guidance, she significantly enhanced local economies and expanded access to maternity care services. She supervised the establishment of multiple puericulture centers across Northern Luzon. Additionally, she engaged her nephew, Dr. Rizal Guerrero de Peralta—who played his part in improving regional healthcare with the introduction of the area's inaugural X-ray facility and providing pro bono medical assistance—in various public health initiatives within their communities.

<p>
 In her 1936 report prior to retiring after serving for 13 years as the president of the Ilocos Norte women's club, she attributed the achievements of their initiatives—such as offering maternal and pediatric healthcare along with various health services—to the commitment of its members. She succumbed to breast cancer in 1940.
</p>
<p>
 An exclusive image shows Enriqueta driving a tractor while dressed in a baro't saya, which was previously utilized for an advertising campaign and is now displayed on the book’s front cover.
</p>
<p>
 Vice Mayor Erdio Valenzuela characterized her as an intellectual with empathy, noting that her words were instrumental in uplifting others and safeguarding Ilocano culture.
</p>
<p>
 The poems written by Enriqueta include translations of José Rizal’s work into Ilocano, encompassing themes of patriotism and femininity. Her literary pieces have appeared in various collections of Ilocano verse, where experts acknowledge her skillful use of lyricism.

 During the Dingras event, senior IPAD members performed her poem titled "Ti Wagaywaytayo." The concluding lines expressed a deep yearning towards the flag—a reflection of Enriqueta’s persistent desire for liberty and tranquility.

 The teenager who competed was just 17 years old and outperformed ten other participants in an event organized at the Monet Ballroom within the Novotel Manila Araneta City located in Quezon City.

 Simpson represented Barangay Socorro in the pageant, which was the inaugural event aimed at choosing Quezon City’s official representative for the Miss World Philippines contest.

 実は私自身、『

 自由に働くための仕事のルール
 』という2冊を、女性のキャリアについて書いています。
</p>
<p>
 日経ビジネスオンラインで連載していたコラムがベースで、私がこれまで現場で試してきた“働き方の戦術”を詰め込んだ本です。
</p>
<p>
 でも、それらを書きながら、心のどこかでずっと考えていたことがあります。
</p>
<p>
 「ルールや戦術を伝えるだけで、本当に次の世代の女性たちは前を向けるだろうか？」
</p>
<p>
 「戦わなくてもいい場所で、安心して自分らしく生きていける社会って、どうやったら作れるんだろう？」
</p>
<p>
 『
 What I Told My Daughter
 』は、そんな私の心の奥にある問いにも、静かに答えてくれました。
</p>
<h2>
 これからの時代にこそ大事にしたい5つのこと
</h2>
<p>
 本の中でとくに心に残ったテーマを、私なりにかみ砕いて5つ挙げてみました。
</p>
<p>
 どれも「ちゃんとしなきゃ」って肩に力が入ってるときに、そっと手を差し伸べてくれるような言葉たちです。
</p>
<p>
 <strong>
  1. 完璧じゃなくていい、自分を取り戻す力を育てよう
 </strong>
</p>
<p>
 私自身、かつては「完璧じゃないと評価されない」と思い込んでいました。母がとても厳しかったこともあり、100点以外は受け付けないと言われていたことも大きかったと思います。高校の頃、数学で99点を取って本気で泣いたこともあります（笑）。あれから、30年以上経っても、同窓会で必ず魚にされる話題です。
</p>
<p>
 でも、キャリアを積むうちに、完璧主義は自分を苦しめるものだと気づきました。
</p>
<p>
 たとえば、GEで事業開発を担当していたとき。ある新規事業に全力で取り組んだものの、最初の試みは思うような成果が出ませんでした。そのとき、「全部うまくやろう」としていた自分を一度手放して、「何が本当に必要か」を考え直したんです。チームで対話を重ね、顧客の声を反映しながらプランを練り直した結果、大型の受注につながりました。
</p>
<p>
 『自由に働くための出世のルール』にも書きましたが、戦略的に働くには「失敗しない」よりも「立ち直る力」のほうがずっと大切。
</p>
<p>
 完璧じゃなくていい。崩れても、しなやかに立ち上がる力。
</p>
<p>
 それが、これからのリーダーに必要な強さだと感じています。
</p>
<p>
 <strong>
  2. 怖さを乗り越えるのは、勇気じゃなくて、ちょっとの好奇心かも
 </strong>
</p>
<p>
 誰だって、「未知のもの」に対しては怖い。
</p>
<p>
 私もそうです。だけど、「やってみたら案外楽しいかも？」という小さな好奇心が、怖さをちょっとだけ軽くしてくれるんですよね。
</p>
<p>
 GEで「この業界ではこうするのが当たり前」と言われていた手法に、私たちのチームはふと疑問を持ちました。「なんで？」と立ち止まり、競合の事例を調べたり、お客様に直接ヒアリングしたり。そこで見つけた“別のやり方”が、私たちの提案の強みに変わったんです。
</p>
<p>
 実はこの
 <strong>
  “当たり前を疑う
 </strong>
 ”って、私がアート思考を研究している理由でもあります。（ビジネスパーソンだけでなく、声楽家でアートを扱うからということもありますが）。
</p>
<p>
 直感とか好奇心って、戦略にもちゃんと使えるんです。
</p>
<p>
 恐れに立ち向かうのではなく、「ちょっと違う景色を見てみたいな」という気持ちが、背中を押してくれる。そんな感覚、もっと大事にしていいと思います。
</p>
<p>
 皆さんにも、最近「ちょっと気になる」「やってみたいかも」と思ったこと、ありませんか？
</p>
<p>
 <strong>
  3. リーダーって、誰かを引っぱる人じゃなくて、ちゃんと“聴ける人”
 </strong>
</p>
<p>
 ボストン・コンサルティング・グループ時代、私の頭は常に「なぜ？」を問い続ける訓練でいっぱいでした。 その文化のおかげで、物事の本質を深く掘る力はついたけれど、気づけば部下にも「もっと考えて」「ちゃんと詰めて」と、つい求めがちに。
</p>
<p>
 でもある日、「あなたはどう思う？」と何気なく聞いてみたときに、驚くほど鋭くて深い視点が返ってきたんです。 その瞬間、ああ、リーダーって「正しい答えを与える人」じゃなくて、「考えを引き出し、共に考える場をつくる人」なんだと、腑に落ちました。
</p>
<p>
 私のマネジメントの核は、いま「問いかけの力」と「聴く姿勢」です。 社員にはよく、「役員の頭の中を引き出して、自分のアイデアと掛け合わせなさい」と伝えています。 上司に気に入られることより、いい質問を投げかけることのほうが、ずっと価値があるから。
</p>
<p>
 娘にも、「答えを知ってる人より、いい質問をする人になってね」と、いつも話しています。 きっとこれからの時代、そういうリーダーが求められていくと思うから。
</p>
<p>
 <strong>
  4. 「自分らしさ」は、無理に主張しなくても、ちゃんと伝わる
 </strong>
</p>
<p>
 GE時代、あるプロジェクトで大きなミスをしてしまったとき、上司から「あなたらしさを忘れていたからだと思う」と言われたことがありました。
</p>
<p>
 その時はショックでした。でも、改めて振り返ると、「女性らしさは極力出さずに」と言われて、パンツスーツをわざわざ買ったほど、「男性と同じように」振る舞おうとしすぎて、私の強みがすっかり埋もれていたんです。
</p>
<p>
 私はもともと、物事を多面的に捉えるのが得意で、クライアントを含めたチームの空気を読んで戦略アプローチを調整する力がありました。
</p>
<p>
 でも「ロジカルに戦え」と言われすぎて、それを抑え込んでいたんですね。
</p>
<p>
 その後、「女性らしさ」を出すかどうかじゃなくて、「自分らしさ」を出す、という発想に変えました。
</p>
<p>
 日経ビジネスオンラインの連載をベースに、ディスカヴァー・トゥエンティワンから出した2冊の本も、そういう思いから書いたものです。
</p>

 武器は持っていい。でも、誰かのコピーにならなくていい。
</p>

  5. 声を持つこと。それを使うこと。それが未来を変える一歩になる

 以前のTheLetterでも紹介したエピソードですが、取締役会で唯一の女性として発言するとき、今でもちょっと緊張します。

 でも私は「女性の視点から」ではなく、「顧客データでは」と言います。
</p>

 感情ではなく、事実で語る。
</p>
<p>
 そして、その中に自分の思いや信念を込める。
</p>
<p>
 違う視点を差し出すことで、組織がより強くなれると信じているからです。
</p>
<p>
 『

 』にも、「声を上げること」の大切さが繰り返し語られていました。

Last year, while approving the 2024 Budget Policy Statement, Parliament resolved that to improve the gender responsiveness of government policies, the National Treasury should include a section on the gender responsiveness of policy proposals before the finalisation of the statement.The Public Finance Management Act prescribes that the Cabinet Secretary shall take into account resolutions passed by Parliament in finalising the budget for the relevant financial year. It also requires the Cabinet Secretary to submit a memorandum explaining how the resolutions adopted by the National Assembly on the budget policy statement have been taken into account.In this regard, the National Treasury in this year’s 2025 Budget Policy Statement indicates that the government is committed to embracing gender-responsive budgeting to ensure the achievement of equity between genders. The policy statement also outlines strategic interventions targeting women and awareness creation activities on gender equality. However, the question remains: is this enough?According to the document, the government will continue empowering women through capacity building and facilitating access to affordable loans through the Hustler Fund, Women Enterprise Fund and other affirmative action funds.FemicideIt will also prioritise the implementation of measures to ensure zero tolerance for female genital mutilation, gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide. This will be achieved through awareness campaigns, providing GBV essential services to survivors, establishing rescue centres, safe houses and gender desks in all police stations, as well as capacity building of GBV duty bearers and police officers on GBV.It will further integrate a gender perspective in all policies, programmes and projects. This will entail training ministries, departments, agencies, and county governments on gender-responsive budgeting and analysing their levels of compliance on gender mainstreaming policies. It will also develop a framework to implement the two-thirds gender principle in elective positions and a legal framework to operationalise it.At this juncture, it is important to note that all the above-mentioned strategic interventions fall under the women's agenda enabler in the 2025 Budget Policy Statement and only make up a small part of the total budget.Budget Policy StatementThe core pillars of the 2025 Budget Policy Statement, such as healthcare, agriculture, housing, digital superhighway and creative economy, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise, barely include gender interventions. While the 2025 policy statement has laid a solid foundation, there is room for improvement. The annual budget policy statement could be strengthened to ensure a more comprehensive approach to gender equality.For example, the 2014 Guidelines for Gender Responsive Budgeting in Kenya recommend that the policy statement incorporate specific measures to address gender equality by drafting a corresponding gender budget statement. It should outline gender equality priorities, strategic objectives, expected outcomes, programmes and resources proposed to address gender equality. It should also review the results of the previous year’s gender budget statement.However, the 2014 Guidelines for Gender Responsive Budgeting are not legally binding on the government, so it is not obligated to follow them when making budgets. Kenya still does not have a legal and policy framework to guide gender-responsive budgeting.  ABU DHABI, 21st March, 2025 (WAM) -- Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) has launched a series of initiatives throughout March to celebrate women's achievements in education, research, and the arts.

 The university remains committed to leading efforts in supporting scientific research and cultural initiatives that highlight women's accomplishments and promote gender equality.
</p>
<p>
 In celebration of International Women's Day, the university has launched a Call for Proposals, inviting scholars, artists, and researchers to explore women's contributions, rights, and empowerment across academic and creative disciplines.
</p>
<p>
 Participants are encouraged to submit proposals focusing on advancing women's rights through research or empowering women through cultural and community-based initiatives. Selected projects will receive funding, mentorship, and institutional support, with expected outcomes including research papers, policy recommendations, digital archives, exhibitions, and performances.
</p>
<p>
 The submission deadline is 15th April, with projects set to commence in September 2025.
</p>
<p>
 SUAD will dedicate its iconic Oval Room to the legendary Umm Kulthum. Revered as one of the greatest voices of the Arab world, Umm Kulthum's music transcended borders and generations, standing as a symbol of resilience, artistry, and empowerment.

 She will be the fifth woman to join the university's pantheon after Olympe de Gouges, Simone de Beauvoir, Germaine Tillion, and Marie Curie as Sorbonne Abu Dhabi honours trailblazing women whose achievements, contributions, and lasting impact have shaped history.

 To honour her legacy and mark the 50th anniversary of her passing, SUAD will host a special tribute concert by renowned artist Ghalia Benali on 16th April at Zayed Theatre.

 Running until 29th March, the 'Lumières de Femmes' art exhibition at SUAD's Atrium showcases the creativity, resilience, and cultural expressions of 23 French and Francophone women artists based in the UAE.

 Featuring French artists and Emirati artist Khulood Al Jabri, the exhibition is a tribute to women's contributions to the arts, offering a captivating experience for art enthusiasts, students, and the wider community. The exhibition is supported by esteemed arts patrons and friends of Sorbonne Abu Dhabi Fairouz and Jean-Paul Villain.

 The university also announced that five outstanding students have been selected for the prestigious Women@Dior & UNESCO Mentoring and Education Programme for 2025-2026.

 "When I was nine years old, I shared with my father that I dreamed of participating in the Olympics and winning a gold medal. He acknowledged that the path would be challenging, emphasizing how tough it is merely to secure a spot on the Olympic team, not to mention winning a medal. Only long-distance runner Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia surpasses her record among Africans; Dibaba claimed three golds along with two bronzes throughout her career.

 The growing prominence of Zimbabwe has sparked optimism across Africa that the continent might host the Summer Olympics for the first time ever.

 Despite expressions of interest from South Africa and Egypt, Coventry has downplayed these expectations.

 "There is an interest, and now we must make sure to work closely with all these countries that are eager, ensuring they completely grasp the significance of the Olympic Games," she stated.

 Coventry stated during a Q&A event hosted by the Association of International Sports Journalists (AIPS) that African nations should “take a strategic approach from the perspective of the African Union to see how we can enhance our infrastructure via the All Africa Games, which could subsequently support a bid for hosting the Olympics.”

 Coventry understands firsthand the challenges these political processes entail. Having served as Zimbabwe’s Minister of Sports since 2018, she mentions that her experiences have made her “certainly more resilient” compared to her days as an athlete.

 When questioned about her stance on allowing trans women to participate in female-only competitions, she avoided giving a direct answer.

 Absolutely, finding a solution is essential," Coventry stated. "In my view, we at the IOC should assume somewhat more of a leadership position.
</p>
<p>
 The Zimbabwean also steered clear of taking an extreme stance on another sensitive issue leading up to the IOC election: the potential participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Olympics.

 “I believe that above all else, our primary responsibility as the IOC is to guarantee that every athlete has the opportunity to compete in the Games,” she stated. “This will require varied approaches for numerous athletes; however, ultimately, I feel that we must develop an inclusive method to address the challenges faced by those competing from conflicted regions.”

 Given her experience representing Zimbabwe during a period marked by national political upheaval and global economic restrictions, she shared her thoughts.

 It would have been simple for the global community to exclude us from participating. When I reflect on this, I wonder how different my life might be now. I feel thankful that I wasn’t burdened with responsibility for the actions of our leaders and administrations.

 There is much work to be done in the fight for equality.

 Kirsty Coventry isn't just a sports administrator and politician; she is also a parent. She welcomed her second daughter into the world fewer than six months ago. Her first child is six years of age.

 "When she reached her first birthday, she had already visited 10 distinct countries across the globe," Coventry mentioned.
</p>
<p>
 I benefit from a remarkable circle of support provided by my spouse and relatives. This has become our standard way of living. I believe this demonstrates effectively that women possess equal capabilities to men, despite often being tasked with roles such as full-time mothers, wives, daughters, and more.
</p>
<p>
 There is still considerable work ahead, and I am enthusiastic about spearheading this initiative for gender equality," Coventry stated. "Women are prepared to take charge. I see this as a chance to break down barriers so that by the time my two daughters mature, they won’t face these limitations.

 Kini mereka unggul 2-0. Menggunakan format terbaik dari lima seri, tim tersebut akan meraih piala juara apabila berhasil memenangkan salah satu pertandingan dalam tiga sampai lima babak akhir. Terlebih lagi, turnamen ini bisa langsung ditutup jika mereka sukses menang di pertandingan ketiga saja.

 Pelatih Pink Spiders, Marcello Abondanza, menyampaikan bahwa sejak awal dirinya telah meramalkan akan ada perjuangan berat dalam pertandingan tersebut. Kekalahan timnya di set pertama dan kedua membuktikannya. "Laga ini sangat vital bagi kami namun saya rasa hal itu jauh lebih krusial buat regu pesaing. Oleh karena itu, menurut saya cukup sukar untuk mencapai kemenangan tanpa hambatan," ungkapnya, demikian dilansir.

 Dia merasa gembira dengan penampilan para pemain di pertandingan itu. "Menurut saya, permainan hari ini sungguh menggambarkan semangat tim kita," ungkap Abondanza. "Kita berhasil membalikkan situasi dari tertinggal 0-2 hingga akhirnya unggul 3-2. Hasil seperti itu adalah yang terbaik untuk turnamen sejenis."

 その名も「ととのうパンツ」。これはズボンであって、下着ではない。直接身に着けられるのが特徴で、日本伝統のふんどしの構造を参考にした、特殊な裏地を施している。
</p>
<p>
 就寝時に身体が感じる肌着のストレスを緩和し、眠りの質を高める商品として、2022年度のグッドデザイン賞（日本デザイン振興会主催）にも選ばれた。これまで約1万着を売り上げている。
</p>
<p>
 中川ケイジさん（48）はその開発者で、ナイトウェアの販売を手がける有限会社「プラスチャーミング」（本社・東京）を経営している。全国にふんどしの良さをPRする「日本ふんどし協会」会長も務めている。
</p>
<p>
 「商品を通して、笑顔になったり、誰かとのコミュニケーションのきっかけになったり。機能以上に価値のあるものを作り出すことがモットーです」と語る。
</p>
<p>
 製造は、東日本大震災から復興した福島県田村市の縫製会社などに委託している。
</p>
<p>
 会社に従業員はいないため、妻の実家がある縁で15年に移住した水戸市を開発拠点に、東京・新宿の伊勢丹など、全国の百貨店の店頭に自ら立ち、売り歩くことも少なくない。
</p>
<p>
 起業のきっかけは、34歳の時に患った、うつ病の闘病経験にある。
</p>
<p>
 兵庫県芦屋市出身で、大学卒業後は美容師として働いたり、親族が経営する会社で営業職を担当したりしていた。就職氷河期の世代。「大学を出ていても、仕事を選ぶこと自体が難しかった」と振り返る。
</p>
<p>
 ただ5年勤めた営業職は肌に合わず、11年春にうつ病を患った。医師から半年間の療養を言い渡されたが、睡眠障害の症状がひどく、精神的にも追い詰められていった。
</p>
<p>
 そんな時、以前に営業先で知り合った人から「はいてみなよ」と、プレゼントされたのが「越中ふんどし」だった。
</p>
<p>
 それまでふんどしを身に着けたことはなく、「男性が祭りに着る露出の多い格好」というイメージだった。
</p>
<p>
 ただ着てみると、越中ふんどしは前垂れが長く、臀部（でんぶ）まで隠すことができて、恥ずかしさもなかった。それ以上に、従来の下着よりも身体への圧迫感がなく、久しぶりにリラックスして寝ることができた。
</p>
<p>
 「心が軽くなって、前向きに生きようという気持ちになれた」と同時に、ふんどしを「寝具として生かせないか。今度こそ、やりたいことをやってみよう」。そう考えるようになった。
</p>
<p>
 11年12月、会社を立ち上げるとともに、彩りや肌触りにこだわった、男性でも女性でも使えるおしゃれなふんどし「しゃれふん」のブランドを立ち上げ、開発を始めた。21年には、「ととのうパンツ」の販売も始めた。
</p>
<p>
 ふんどしへの抵抗感を感じる人は「まだまだ多い」と話すが、しゃれふんの購入者の8割ほどは女性だという。
</p>
<p>
 今後は、国内の大学などと連携し、さらに睡眠の質を高めるための研究にも取り組む予定だ。「より良い眠りを体験できる。そんな商品をこれからも作っていきたい」と話す。（古庄暢）
