A teenager was taken into custody after a shooting in the Columbia area.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department apprehended Darren Archie Jr., aged 19, and accused him of attempting murder as well as carrying a weapon during the commission of a violent offense related to a shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday near Bluff Road.

As stated in a press release from the sheriff’s department, deputies were dispatched around 4 p.m. on Wednesday to the 6800 block of Bluff Road. Upon arrival, they discovered a person suffering from gunshots to the lower torso. According to the sheriff’s office, this individual had been involved in a dispute with Archie, identified as the boyfriend of the victim's daughter. It has been reported that their disagreement centered on the ownership or use of the victim’s car.

According to the report from the sheriff’s department, during the event, Archie allegedly fired several shots at the victim, hitting them multiple times. The victim was then transported to a nearby hospital by Richland County EMS.

Later, deputies apprehended Archie at his residence and took him to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
