Nairobi King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, who is presently undertaking a three-day state trip to Kenya, has highlighted the common goals between their countries regarding effective governance, respect for human rights, and transparency.

On Tuesday, March 18, the Dutch monarch emphasized the significance of respecting citizens' rights and fostering an open conversation between governmental bodies.

"The people of Kenya, similar to those in the Netherlands, desire their rights as independent citizens to be upheld and their opinions to be acknowledged. I am glad that our robust relationship enables us to concentrate on crucial matters including human rights, proper governance, and accountability during my visit," he said.

Later, he mentioned that he would interact with young Kenyans to gain insights into their views regarding recent changes.

William Ruto, Willem-Alexander sign MoUs

President William Ruto disclosed that Kenya and the Netherlands have entered into three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) along with a Letter of Intent aimed at enhancing cooperation across multiple fields such as agriculture, trade and investments, industrialization, tourism, climate initiatives, regional stability, and interpersonal ties.

"These accords will boost Dutch investment in Kenya, reinforce our transition in agriculture and industry, and propel infrastructural advancement. This will expedite our economic expansion and generate additional employment prospects for our young population," stated Ruto.

He also recognized the Netherlands as one of Kenya’s foremost trade allies in Europe, highlighting its role as a consistent partner in development and a vital collaborator in transforming the nation’s economy.

"We highly regard this partnership and pledge to enhance our connections, broaden economic prospects, and cultivate sustainable cooperations that propel advancement in both countries," he stated additionally.

The accords were finalized during bilateral discussions conducted at State House in Nairobi. Here, President Ruto convened with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.

The leaders subsequently spoke to the press, reinforcing their dedication to enhancing diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
