HARARE, April 16 (blog.DiwidAlive) – An innovative project known as the Digital Democracy Hackathon will commence online next month. This event aims to assist participants in crafting tech-based answers designed to boost democratic practices throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
The hackathon aims to empower citizens, with special emphasis on women, young people, and marginalized communities, who frequently encounter restricted access to resources as they strive for their democratic rights.
The participants, comprising innovators, developers, activists, and community leaders, will gather to engage in discussions about significant topics like misinformation, censorship, and safeguarding civil rights within the digital landscape.
As stated by the organizers, Magamba Network, this program offers materials related to data privacy, ease of access, and cooperative technologies aimed at closing the informational divide between citizens and governmental representatives.
The organizers stated that the hackathon encourages participants to develop and deploy cutting-edge digital solutions, empowering individuals to autonomously track public services and push for openness from government representatives.
They mentioned that the platform will facilitate the creation of comprehensive strategies combining digital security with activism. This approach aims to safeguard the essential efforts of civil society workers facing suppression, while also tackling urgent issues like misinformation and inadequate digital skills. The initiative includes developing advanced resources such as artificial intelligence-powered verification apps and engaging digital literacy programs.
