Addis Ababa, April 6, 2025 (POA) — The inaugural Global AI Summit for Africa wrapped up in Kigli, Rwanda, with the theme “AI and Africa’s Demographic Dividend: Redefining Economic Prospects for Africa’s Labor Force”.

The gathering in Kigali, which spanned the past three days, attracted more than 1,000 attendees hailing from 95 nations. Among them were government officials, business leaders, scientists, financiers, and delegates representing approximately 100 enterprises focused on artificial intelligence technology.

After discussing methods to utilize advanced technologies for fostering growth and progress in Africa, the summit introduced the Africa AI Council, an international organization designed to guide the continent’s artificial intelligence strategy via robust regulation, moral guidelines, and targeted funding.

The council aims to bring together African nations around common challenges and opportunities, ensuring fair access to technologies driven by artificial intelligence. They also seek to boost local innovations and safeguard data independence.

During the opening of the summit, Rwandan President Paul Kagame and other key figures highlighted the importance of developing a strong AI environment focused on fairness, innovation, and interconnectivity.

In addition to policy talks, the summit included hands-on interaction forums like an investment roundtable aimed at linking African artificial intelligence startups with international investors, along with a research symposium fostering joint investigation into localized AI uses.

The organizers intend to use the summit’s results to influence upcoming regional structures for governing artificial intelligence and securing development funds.
