 이번 신제품은 자체 AI 솔루션 'HP AI 컴패니언'을 기본 탑재했다. 사용자는 PC에 저장된 개인 파일로 자신만의 라이브러리를 만들어 문서를 요약하거나 분석할 수 있다. 'GPT-4o' 기반의 지식 검색도 가능하다. 음성으로 기기 설정을 바꿀 수도 있다.

 HP는 향후 전 제품군에 AI 기능을 탑재하며 AI PC 시장에 주력한다는 방침이다. 경기 침체와 무역 장벽 등 시장 불확실성이 큰 상황이지만, 코로나 팬데믹 이후 교체 사이클 도래, 올 하반기 윈도 11 기술 지원 종료 등과 AI PC 수요가 맞물려 기업용 PC 시장 성장이 기대되고 있기 때문이다.

 소병홍 HP코리아 전무는 "시장조사업체에 따르면 2027년에는 50% 이상의 PC가 AI PC 될 것"이라며 "HP 내부적으로는 60% 이상 될 개연성이 많다고 보고 있다"고 말했다. 또 "HP는 향후 모든 제품 라인업을 'AI 레디 디바이스'로 바꿀 것"이라며 "다양한 AI PC 라인업을 통해 이미 60종 이상의 AI PC가 준비되어 있다"고 덧붙였다.


 그는 "모든 종류의 환경에서 효과적으로 인공지능(AI)을 사용할 수 있도록 설계된 기기와 경험, 그리고 솔루션들을 개발하겠다"고 말하며, "HP의 목적은 가장 고급스러운 AI 컴퓨팅 장비들과 경험이 풍부한 시스템을 제공하여 사람들이 보다 생산적이면서도 의의있는 방식으로 새로운 가치를 만들어내도록 돕는 것"이라고 역설했다.

 웹툰 '신과 함께'의 저자 주호민은 최근 열풍인 이미지 생성에 대한 견해를 밝히면서 오픈AI의 생성형 AI 체트봇 GPT를 활용하여 만화를 그리는 시도를 했다고 말했습니다.


 주호민은 2일 자신의 유튜브 채널에 게시된 동영상에서 "_CHATGPT의 '지브리 스타일' 기능이 전 세계를 장악했다_"라고 시작했습니다.


 이렇게 말하면서 "나도 한 번 가족 사진을 (ChatGPT에게) 테스트 해봤는데 정말 사랑스럽게 그리더라고" 하며 이야기했지만, "너무 많이 살찐 듯이 표현된 것 같아서 좀 아쉽네" 하고 덧붙여 모두를 웃음으로 이끌었다.


 최근에는 챗GPT를 사용하여 스타일이 지브리 영화와 유사한 이미지를 만드는 것이 전 세계적으로 인기를 끌고 있습니다. 샘 올트먼 오픈AI 최고경영자(CEO) 역시 소셜 미디어 플랫폼 X에서 "(지브리 양식의 이미지 생성 트렌드로) 저희 회사의 그래픽 처리 장치(GPU)들이 멜팅(melting)되고 있어요"라고 말했습니다.

 주호민은 "챗GPT의 드로잉 기술이 매우 향상되었다"면서 "내가 그리는 이미지 약 100장을 학습시키고 '딸깍 만화가'가 될 계획이다"라고 비디오 콘텐츠에 대해 설명했습니다.


 한 시청자가 실시간 방송에서 채팅으로 '날먹(날로 먹기) 선언'이라는 말을 남겼다. 이에 주호민은 "그것이 단순히 '날먹'이라고 부르기는 어렵고, 사실 체트지피티도 결국 하나의 도구일 뿐"이라고 설명했다.

 그는 "각 인물의 이미지를 전체적으로 그리고 계속 보관하였다. 그렇게 하면 데이터베이스가 형성된다. 만화 작업 중에는 이전에 저장해둔 그림들을 필요한 순간에 복제하고 붙여넣기하여 완성도를 높였다"라고 설명했습니다.

 주호민이 챗GPT가 생성한 이미지를 본 후 "얼굴의 세부 특징은 다르지만 전체적인 모습이 잘 표현되었다"고 말하며 기뻐했습니다.

 The esteemed analyst and Apple fan expressed his frustration at having been less doubtful when the company revealed in June that its Siri chatbot would receive a significant generative AI (genAI) enhancement.


 The technology, set to be launched as part of the Apple Intelligence collection of iPhone software, aimed to elevate the significantly criticized voice assistant’s functionalities far beyond merely providing weather updates or configuring timers.


 Investors were counting on this update to kick off a crucial sales surge for the iPhone, where an enticing new feature on the device drives consumers to quickly purchase the newest and priciest versions of the phone.


 The anticipated enhancement of Apple Intelligence with the upgraded Siri was meant to boost demand beginning with the launch of the iPhone 16 in September.

 As therapy costs rise and mental health stigma persists, more people - especially the young - are turning to chatbots for quick emotional fixes. Whether coping with break-ups or career dilemmas, these AI companions are helping to reshape how some grapple with stress and vulnerability.


 In China,
 DeepSeek
 has become an alternative to traditional therapy for some young people, who turn to the AI app for advice and introspection. Meanwhile, in the United States, a 2021 study by therapeutic chatbot company Woebot Health found that 22 per cent of adults had used a mental health chatbot, while nearly half expressed interest in doing so.


 Singapore was an early adopter of
 artificial intelligence
 for mental health, launching Wysa in 2020 as a response to the pandemic. The chatbot offers access to meditation, breathing exercises and pep talks to help users manage their mental health challenges.


 More than 90 per cent of Wysa users have reported feeling emotional relief and being able to reframe their thoughts, according to Pranav Gupta, global head of commercial and partnerships at Wysa. Many had sought support for workplace and relationship issues exacerbated by the pandemic.

 John Lim, who serves as the chief well-being officer at the Singapore Counselling Centre, mentioned that these chatbots offer a "judgment-free" environment where individuals can freely share their thoughts.


 He mentioned that he has come across people using AI chatbots for emotional backing, frequently as an initial move before consulting professionals or as an addition to their therapy sessions. For those new to counseling, these AI chatbots serve as a tender introduction to grasping what receiving support entails.


 AI chatbots have emerged as the initial point of support for a generation grappling with mental health issues.


 According to a 2024 survey conducted by the Institute of Mental Health, almost one-third of individuals between the ages of 15 and 35 in Singapore indicated experiencing signs of depression, anxiety, or stress. Among the 2,600 participants, about one-fourth reported having significant or very intense feelings of anxiety during the previous week.


 Adam, who specializes as a trauma recovery therapist and relationship coach at The Good Life Counselling, stated that the reliance on AI chatbots highlights a significant "emotional and mental health crisis."


 "Individuals find it difficult to obtain proper care, so they resort to whatever is readily accessible. In most instances, these platforms permit people to express their emotions and receive some form of response," she explained.


 Although these AI platforms provide such accessibility and even a sense of connection... they lack the depth, subtlety, and emotional resonance required for genuine healing in the end.

 Not everybody resorts to chatbots seeking empathy, though. For instance, Vanessa*, aged 32, utilizes them as tools for organizing her thoughts. Considering a relocation overseas, Vanessa sought guidance from ChatGPT.


 “I believe I wasn’t particularly seeking emotional support; instead, I needed someone impartial to listen to me. I was engaged in significant personal exploration to clarify my preferences regarding my career and relationships,” she explained.


 Vanessa views ChatGPT as just one of several “resources” available to her, complemented by traditional face-to-face therapy sessions. She remarked, "Nothing beats talking directly to a therapist in person. An effective therapist possesses an array of techniques and strategies tailored to address various issues such as using EMDR therapy for managing anxiety."


 Vanessa noted that even with its constraints, the chatbot’s availability couldn’t be denied. It served as an affordable substitute for individual therapy sessions, which typically range from S$80 to S$300 (approximately US$60-US$225), often costing much more.


 Jessica voiced similar feelings about her AI “companion,” noting that it seemed quite authentic. She explained, "Though I haven’t been to therapy myself, talking to those who have suggests that the guidance provided feels akin to what one might receive from an actual therapist.” Jessica highlighted how useful she finds its impartiality and organization.


 Nonetheless, mental health experts caution that although AI chatbots provide quick, available, and unbiased assistance, they cannot substitute for professional therapy.

 Lim pointed out potential dangers including incorrect guidance, absence of responsibility, perpetuation of detrimental behaviors, and excessive dependency. He mentioned, "Instances have occurred where chatbots offered ineffective or potentially damaging recommendations, like proposing harmful ways to cope or not recognizing critical situations."


 Gupta from Wysa highlighted that AI is not meant to “replace therapy,” but rather to make support more readily available. "AI will never substitute for human therapists. Rather, it acts as a crucial supplement—filling voids, offering assistance between appointments, and connecting with individuals who may have otherwise never sought help," he stated.


 The future of mental health care won't be about choosing between AI and therapists. It will involve AI and therapists collaborating.


 Nur concurred, observing that chatbots enable patients to express themselves between appointments or manage tough feelings when cut off from their support network. However, she warned against confusing artificial intelligence with genuine human connections.


 "The primary risk associated with depending on AI for mental health assistance lies in the false sense of genuine interaction. You might think you’re receiving attention as responses come back at you rather than feeling ignored or disrespected... however, this falls short of providing the profound engagement necessary for authentic recovery,” she explained.

 Can a complete tech novice create a website using everyday language on ChatGPT?


 That's the promise, misleading for some, of "vibe coding," the latest Silicon Valley catchphrase for an advance in generative AI that some say makes computer programming as simple as chatting online.


 "You fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists," OpenAI co-founder and former Tesla employee Andrej Karpathy described in early February, in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), using the term for the first time.


 "I'm building a project or web app, but it's not really coding - I just see stuff, say stuff, run stuff, and copy paste stuff, and it mostly works," he said.


 The developer and entrepreneur was referring to the new generative AI models that produce lines of code on demand in everyday language, through writing or speech.


 The concept of "vibe coding" remained confined to the AI community until New York Times columnist Kevin Roose claimed to have created websites and apps without any knowledge of programming.


 "Just having an idea, and a little patience, is usually enough," he wrote.


 The ChatGPT and Claude interfaces can write an entire program line by line on demand, as can Gemini, which launched its dedicated version, Gemini Canvas, on Tuesday.


 Other generative AI platforms specifically dedicated to coding have also made their mark in recent months, from Cursor to Loveable, or Bolt, Replit and Windsurf.


 "Maybe, just maybe, we're looking at a fundamental shift in how software is created and who creates it," said online marketing specialist Mattheo Cellini on Substack.


 "It's unlikely to make coding irrelevant, but it may change the way developers work," suggested Yangfeng Ji, professor of computer science at the University of Virginia.


 "This could lead to some job displacement, particularly for those focused solely on basic coding tasks."


 Even before "vibe coding," a downturn was being seen by some in IT employment as the first effects of generative AI began to be felt.


 The sector shed nearly 10,000 jobs in the US in February, according to the Department of Labor, and its headcount is at a three-year low.

 Expertise needed?

 Among code novices, many find it hard to catch the vibe.


 "People who do not have programming expertise often struggle to use these kinds of models because they don't have the right kinds of tools or knowledge to actually evaluate the output," said Nikola Banovic, professor of computer science at the University of Michigan.


 On social media, the few newbies who report on their "vibe coding" quickly complain that it's not as easy as some want to believe.


 Without mastering computing complexities like digital directories, runtime environments or application programming interfaces (APIs), it's hard to create an app that works.


 Despite his coding knowhow, Claude Rubinson, a professor of sociology at the University of Houston-Downtown, wanted to create an application for his students two years ago without tinkering with the code generated by ChatGPT.


 After a lot of trial and error, the app finally worked, but "I'm convinced it wouldn't have worked if I hadn't understood the code," which allowed him to guide the interface using the appropriate language.


 This brought home the importance of the "prompt": mastering the request submitted to obtain the desired result.


 "Programmers have certain levels of AI literacy that allows them to get what they want out of the models," said Banovic.


 Everyday users "will not know how to prompt," h warned.

 This program includes a training course divided into three pathways. Accessible via the Learning Management System (LMS), this course covers these essential aspects.


 The third track is designed for executives and concentrates on AI-related material aimed at organizational leaders.

 In China’s expansive rural areas, a DeepSeek scenario is unfolding as villagers find chatbots helpful for obtaining guidance on subjects varying from hog cultivation to crop protection.


 Due to China’s wide-ranging internet access and high mobile phone usage, the nation's rural inhabitants—who make up one-third of its 1.4 billion people—are keen on utilizing AI technologies in agriculture and daily village life following the national surge in AI uptake sparked by DeepSeek, the Hangzhou startup, through its open-source models.


 Chinese tech giants like Alibaba Group Holding and Tencent Holdings have also created user-friendly chatbots to expedite the spread of AI applications. Alibaba, which owns the South ChinaMorning Post, entered into a strategic alliance with the Zhejiang provincial government partially to address the urban-rural income disparity through the use of AI technology.

 China’s leading AI chatbots like Tencent's Yuanbao, Alibaba's Tongyi, and ByteDance's Doubao are rapidly gaining new users, even among people living in remote rural areas.


 In Jiaohe, a town in northeastern Jilin province, a village chief reached out to Tencent directly for help in promoting AI to villagers. In advertisements displayed around the town, he encouraged the townspeople to "search Tencent Yuanbao on the app store".


 Village Chief Mr. Lu informed the Post that the chatbot has seamlessly integrated into daily rural routines. Villagers leverage AI functionalities to recognize flora and fauna, examine paperwork, locate governmental aid programs, obtain agricultural and animal husbandry guidance, and create marketing content for regional online commerce ventures.


 Tencent established a dedicated task force to launch an "AI for Agriculture" initiative. According to a Tencent staff member involved in the project, features such as image recognition and voice control have greatly reduced obstacles for farming communities. Additionally, the firm adjusted its artificial intelligence algorithms to better suit agricultural requirements and worked alongside local authorities to enhance educational efforts.

 Slogans advocating for Tencent’s Yuanbao, which incorporated DeepSeek's R1 reasoning model in February, have proliferated across rural areas of China, notably in the northeast region, igniting conversations on Chinese social platforms. “Encountering issues with identifying crop diseases?” “Consult Tencent Yuanbao.” “Worried about beginning your rural business venture?” “Ask Tencent Yuanbao.” “Facing challenges with live-streaming commerce?” “Reach out to Tencent Yuanbao.” These messages appear prominently on road signs, written in striking white and yellow letters.


 Last month, Yuanbao saw its daily active users skyrocket twentyfold in just February, according to Tencent President Martin Lau Chi-ping, who mentioned this during the firm’s recent quarterly revenue discussion.


 Alibaba’s Quark, which initially launched as both a browser and cloud storage service before being relabeled as their primary AI assistant, had accumulated 146.6 million monthly active users by February, based on statistics from China-based AI tracking platform AIcpb. Another rapidly rising AI application, Doubao, garnered 81.9 million monthly active users, whereas DeepSeek’s corresponding app managed to attract 61.8 million users during the same period.


 Local administrations are increasingly utilizing AI to enhance farming practices. For instance, in Enping—a township located in South Guangdong Province—the municipal government has implemented an AI system powered by DeepSeek. This technology alerts farmers about potential pest threats through notifications sent directly to their smartphones, as reported by the local authorities' newspaper.


 The swift expansion of AI services has fueled optimism about reducing China’s urban-rural poverty disparity, yet it has also sparked worries. This includes the dissemination of AI-created material such as convincing yet deceptive video and audio recordings, alongside speculative tools like AI-driven stock trading platforms.


 Lu, the party secretary in Jilin, emphasized the significance of educating locals on using artificial intelligence responsibly. Consequently, he intends to organize additional training sessions aimed at instructing villagers on how to critically and impartially assess AI-generated replies.


 "The surge in artificial intelligence signifies a trend toward technology democratization. It is crucial for rural regions to capitalize on this chance to close the knowledge divide between urban and rural communities," Lu stated.

 Miyazaki, an animation director from Japan, was born in
 Tokyo
 on January 5, 1941. In 1963, he started working as an animator at Toei Douga.


 According to IMDb, he is renowned for his manga series Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, as well as other animated films including Hikotei Jidai, which was later turned into the movie Porco Rosso.


 On June 15, 1985, Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, and Suzuki Toshio established Studio Ghibli.


 Established as a division of Tokuma Shoten, Studio Ghibli has headquarters in Kichijōji. It was designed by Miyazaki.

 Amidst the backlash, a video of Studio Ghibli co-founder Miyazaki calling AI-generated animation an “insult to life itself” has gone viral on social media.


 The widely recognised director, who has made films like Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro, stated his opinions about AI in the old clip, claiming that it would not be able to comprehend human emotions.


 In the video, a group of animators and designers present Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki, who is the producer at Studio Ghibli, with their "invention" — an artificial intelligence system designed to bring images to life through animation.


 They asserted that AI could produce bizarre and unusual motions that surpass human imagination, and the animation seemed like a terrifying zombie.


 "It appears as though it’s performing a dance. The way it moves relies heavily on its head. There seems to be no sensation of pain, nor does it seem to have an understanding of safeguarding its own head. Instead, it utilizes its head much like one would use their legs. Such motion is incredibly eerie and might even fit well into a zombie-themed video game. AI could reveal to us disturbing motions beyond our human imagination," explained the presenter.

 The individual, expressing deep disappointment with both the explanation and the animated image, shared a poignant experience. They mentioned having a friend with disabilities who struggled with basic actions such as giving a high-five because of rigid muscles. The person explained that seeing these unusual movements in the animation brought back memories of their friend’s challenges, making them feel less amused by it all.


 Miyazaki expressed his lack of interest in it, telling FarOut Magazine, "The person who comes up with this kind of thing clearly doesn't have any understanding of pain at all."


 He stated that he feels "completely repulsed," and further commented, "If you truly intend to create disturbing content, feel free to proceed. However, I would absolutely refuse to integrate this technology into my projects in any way."


 In response to Miyazaki, the designer clarified that this was merely an experiment and stated, "Our intention is not to achieve anything by presenting it publicly."
