The Federal Polytechnic in Bauchi has announced that a research initiative funded by TETFund, which commenced over the past two years, has now concluded. This accomplishment enables the institution to extend Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance beyond classroom spaces into external regions as part of enhancing campus safety measures.

At present, the institution has installed CCTV cameras in several exam halls to tackle cheating during exams and enhance overall campus safety.

Additionally, the institution is examining the Student Handbook with the intent to incorporate prohibited offenses like cybercrime, which at present is absent from the document, thereby making it subject to punishment.

The announcement was made by the Head of the Polytechnic, Sani Usman, when he spoke with journalists during the 2025 NBTE site visit for resources inspection and accreditation on Sunday.

The Rector stated, "Cameras have been set up in crucial classrooms, utilizing solar inverters present in numerous lecture halls across the premises. This initiative aims to maintain constant surveillance throughout the area."

The government of Ekiti State has celebrated three young innovators who won the N5 million top prize at the NCYF. The National Youth Corps Framework applauded Governor Bago for reinstating CRK courses in Niger state’s educational institutions. Meanwhile, the Education Minister is advocating for reforms aimed at making the NYSC program more skills-oriented.

He emphasized that "This initiative is a key component of our comprehensive approach to combat exam misconduct and security issues within the institution. Our aim is to foster a more respectable community."

During the NBTE’s visit to the institution, the Rector stated that this meeting was well overdue, as these visits should occur every four years to guarantee that academic programs align with established guidelines.

As he stated, "The accreditation process was essential for assessing the institution's performance during the last five years and confirming that its academic programs, staff, and facilities stay current."

He verified that 78 programs underwent review by the NBTE over the course of two intensive days. He added, "The inspection team has finished their visits, so now we look forward to receiving their reports."

Furthermore, Sani Usman stated, “We are prepared for the initiative as demonstrated by the teams’ actions; they accomplished their missions effectively. We believe that even if not every program does so, the majority will garner favorable reactions.”

During the evaluation of the exercise, Dr. Fatima Umar, who leads the Polytechnic Programs and heads the NBTE team, emphasized the need for the institution to tackle the deficiencies in infrastructure and personnel. These shortcomings were noted as key issues throughout the programs that were inspected.

Represented by Adesina Oluade, Fatima Umar highlighted issues such as the lack of students handbooks, academic journals, and unstable power supply as areas requiring urgent attention.

She stressed that the accreditation process was designed to enhance quality assurance in delivering services, promising an impartial and open assessment of the institution.

The Director likewise praised the Management for establishing a conducive atmosphere that allowed the teams to function effectively over a brief timeframe.
