DUBAI, 5th April, 2025 (WAM) -- Today, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who serves as both the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, was present at the 29th iteration of the prestigious Dubai World Cup held at the renowned Meydan Racecourse.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed was joined at the esteemed international gathering by H.H. Sheikh Hamadan bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who serves as the Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai; along with H.H. Sheikh Makthum bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, acting as the First Vice Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance.

On this occasion, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated that the sustained worldwide enthusiasm for the Dubai World Cup since its inception in 1996 underscores the UAE's prominent position in various fields, particularly in sports. He emphasized how the country has emerged as a top global hub for horse racing due to state-of-the-art facilities, exceptional organizational skills, and robust international collaborations that unite some of the most renowned owners, trainers, and riders globally.

H.H. Opening the 29th Dubai World Cup, H.H. Sheikh Mohamed highlighted how the tournament has risen in prominence within the world sports schedule. He praised the organizing committee for their hard work which ensured the event's triumph and underscored Dubai’s expanding influence in the worldwide equestrian racing scene.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum awarded the Dubai World Cup trophy to Hit Show’s winning team at the premier Group 1 event. This victory was achieved with jockey Florent Geroux in the saddle, under the guidance of trainer Brad Cox, and as part of Wathnan Racing’s roster. In this prestigious 2000-meter dirt race, supported by Emirates Airlines, eleven top-tier thoroughbreds vied for a prize fund totaling $12 million.

The 29th edition of the Dubai World Cup featured an impressive lineup of highly ranked horses from all over the world, showcasing renowned owners, breeders, and trainers in the industry. Over 102 equine competitors from 13 different nations took part in nine races, with a combined purse totaling $30.5 million. Notably, the last event alone offered $12 million in prizes.

The notable guests present at the gathering comprised H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who serves as the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai; H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, presiding over the Dubai Sports Council; H.H. Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; along with H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Rashed bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, who serves as the Chairman of the Dubai Equestrian Club, was also in attendance along with several high-ranking officials, prominent horse owners, breeders, and passionate racing aficionados from across the globe.

The inaugural Dubai World Cup took place in 1996 at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse, serving as a key component of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s strategy to establish Dubai as a global sports destination.
