Deportados en Panamá: Una Carrera Desesperada por Asilo Entre Embajadas

<img data-document-id="cms/api/amp/image/AA1BtAvH" data-reference="image" src="https://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/tenant/amp/entityid/AA1BtAvH.jpg"/> <p> Migrantes provenientes de Afganistán, Rusia, Irán y China, quienes fueron expulsados de Estados Unidos y se encontraron varados en Panamá, recorrieron de manera angustiada las puertas de diversas embajadas y consulados durante la presente semana buscando obtener asilo en algún país dispuesto a recibirlos. </p> <p> Hace solo algunas semanas, los deportados eran el centro de atención de la preocupación humanitaria mundial; hoy afirman estar cada vez más angustiados ya que, con escasa ayuda legal y humanitaria y sin que las autoridades brinden una solución evidente, temen ser abandonados al olvido. </p> <p> “Una vez que esto termine, no estamos seguros de lo que haremos”, expresó Hayatullah Omagh, un hombre de 29 años que escapó de Afganistán en 2022 luego de que el Talibán tomará el control del país. </p> <p> En febrero, EE.UU. expulsó a aproximadamente 300 individuos provenientes principalmente de naciones asiáticas hacia Panamá. El país centroamericano estaba previsto como punto intermedio para estos migrantes cuyas nacionalidades hacían difícil devolverlos directamente al lugar de origen según lo deseaban las políticas del gobierno de Donald Trump, quien buscaba agilizar dichos procesos de expulsión. Mientras tanto, algunos optaron por retornar a sus tierras de origen bajo condiciones voluntarias desde Panamá; sin embargo, hubo quienes temiendo enfrentarse a posibles persecuciones decidieron resistirse y terminaron siendo llevados a un campo alejado e inhóspito dentro de la jungla del Darién donde permanecieron varias semanas. </p> <p> Al comienzo de marzo, las autoridades panameñas los trasladaron y les otorgaron un plazo de un mes para salir del país. Sin embargo, fueron denegados o informados de que debían comunicarse vía telefónica o enviar correos electrónicos a estas entidades diplomáticas. Por otro lado, el consulado suizo desmintió cualquier intento de denegarle asilo a los solicitantes. </p> <h2> Limbo en Panamá </h2> <p> Los migrantes viajaron por media tierra para llegar a la frontera de los Estados Unidos, donde esperaban pedir asilo.
