 Nintendo announced on the 3rd that they will release the next-generation console gaming system 'Nintendo Switch2' on June 5th.

 Since the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, enthusiasts have eagerly speculated about a small but intriguing aspect shown in the promotional video—the Joy-Con controllers. Particularly, people were curious about whether these could function similarly to computer mice based on how they appeared to move within the clip. Recently, we've received an official explanation confirming this speculation: The Joy-Cons now feature a “mouse mode.” This allows gamers to glide the Joy-Cons over smooth surfaces and utilize the analog sticks for actions akin to clicking buttons on a regular mouse—left click and right click functions included. Moreover, you can employ both Joy-Cons at once using this new setting—one per hand—or opt for having just one controller set up in mouse mode alongside another configured normally. Essentially, the gaming possibilities are endless.

 Nintendo will release its new Switch 2 console on June 5, seeking to keep the No 1 spot in video-game devices with a new version of the top-selling model it introduced in 2017.


 The new product would start at US$450 in the US, the company said Wednesday, an increase from the US$300 the company charged for the original Switch.


 Shares of Nintendo fell 5.9 per cent Thursday morning in Tokyo, part of a broader sell-off on fears that
 tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump
 would harm Asian exporters. Some of Nintendo's consoles are assembled in Vietnam and Cambodia, which are facing particularly high levies.

 Nintendo revealed details of the machine during an hour-long livestream, including a new chat feature and a separate video camera. The company also announced several new games, including

 One of the biggest surprises was the reveal of a new game from the acclaimed Japanese developer FromSoftware, called
 The Duskbloods
 , that will be out next year as a Switch 2 exclusive.


 The company's first entirely new platform in eight years, the Switch 2 has the potential to lift sales for game makers and retailers after what has been a lacklustre three years for the industry.


 To buoy sales, Nintendo is also leaning on a large line-up of third-party games that were not playable on the previous Switch, including old entries in franchises such as
 Street Fighter
 and
 Final Fantasy.


 Rather than asking customers to start from scratch, as it did with most of its previous consoles, Nintendo is instead taking an iterative approach. The Switch 2 resembles the Switch, with its large screen and detachable controllers, but is slightly bigger. Like its predecessor, the Switch 2 will play games both on the go and on a television using a dedicated docking station. The new machine can play almost every Switch game as well as games that will be developed exclusively for Switch 2.

 The Switch 2 will also have some additional features, such as allowing players to flip over the controllers and use them as a computer mouse for playing certain games.


 The Switch 2 controller includes a button dedicated to a new feature called GameChat. Players will be able to use it to talk to friends using the system's built-in microphone and can share their screen with friends while playing games. A separately sold camera will allow users to appear on screen while playing, much like they would while streaming on Twitch or YouTube.


 Although the Switch 2 is still not as graphically proficient as rivals PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the new power boost has allowed Nintendo to court third-party publishers such as Bandai Namco Entertainment, which said that the popular action role-playing game
 Elden Ring
 will be on the new system. Capcom's
 Street Fighter 6
 and Electronic Arts' sports games
 Madden NFL
 and
 EA Sports FC
 will also come to Switch 2.


 Some old Switch games would be enhanced for Switch 2 and support the system's new features, Nintendo said, showing off an iteration of last year's

 Sadly, there's just one game confirmed for this event so far, and it's an unannounced new title.

 The game made an appearance in theSwitch 2 teaservideo back in January, where viewers caught just a glimpse—showing twice as many racers, upfrom 12 to 24 competing in a single race. Beyond these details gleaned from mereseconds of screen time, everything else remains speculative. It seems plausiblethat this could serveas oneofthelaunch titlesfor thenewconsole.


 That’s everything we currently have to go on, unfortunately. The best I can do is speculate on what else might appear during this Direct. It’s unlikely that there will be a new

 Tears of the Kingdom

 Echoes of Wisdom
 
 has been released in the last couple of years; however, I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of an improved version of a previous title.

 It remains quite likely, possibly even launching initially, considering its extensive development timeline and the fact that we have not witnessed it since.

 The series developer, MonolithSoft, might offer us a sneak peek at their upcoming project for Switch 2 as well. Additionally, we can anticipate seeing the next major 3D installment.
 
 Mario
 
 At some point during this direct, we might see a game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s also a launch title. Even if it isn’t, it could still release within this holiday season.


 Aside from these elements, it's quite challenging to predict what Nintendo might unveil. There’s still a small chance, albeit slim, that they could revive an inactive franchise like

 I've been browsing through various parts of it randomly.
 Switch 2

 , among others, from various individuals. I'm not particularly interested in the console; I had no intention of purchasing it anyway. To my view, it seems they are simply being cautious by retaining the same design and appearance for this new version. However, I must admit I am somewhat puzzled by

 Certain titles that appear as though they're merely updated versions of older games are being priced at full retail value. And why charge extra for certain updates when we've never heard of Smart Delivery? Something similar occurred previously with Nintendo, where the price of the 3DS was increased following the successful release of the DS, only to later reduce the pricing.
 GameCube
 . Maybe they could ultimately do the same with the Switch 2. What I hope doesn’t happen is setting a precedent for higher game prices; publishers might latch onto that trend. Additionally, Nintendo needs to tread carefully so as not to fuel negative sentiment that could undermine their release, particularly in today’s digital era where information spreads quickly.


 Let me put this out there as a cautionary tale from history. For many years, gaming companies have sabotaged their own success following the launch of a popular product. The Xbox One immediately comes to mind.
 Microsoft
 All I had to do was introduce a strong follow-up for the Xbox 360 along with all the additional features, and everything else would have fallen into place. They could've named it the Xbox 360-2, which might have outsold the original console. However, they ended up pushing away many gamers due to constant internet connectivity requirements, digital rights management disputes, as well as technical shortcomings, among others. The reveal event retrospectively remains one of those moments that still make me wince.


 The unveiling of the Xbox One remains something I believe Microsoft didn’t really have to do. They essentially copied Sony, which ultimately benefited PlayStation at the expense of the Xbox One.  Delving deeper into the past: After Atari’s decline due to unsuccessful consoles, they attempted to make a comeback with the Jaguar, marketed as a 64-bit system. However, this led to accusations of misleading marketing from those who argued it didn't truly qualify as such. Moreover, their library consisted mostly of poor-quality titles, coupled with an unconventional controller design. This setback effectively relegated Atari to obscurity within the gaming hardware industry. Additionally, consider the case of Commodore; they launched a C64 console hoping to capitalize on the popularity of their iconic home computer. Unfortunately, this product faded rapidly from memory.


 Heaven only knows how many other game systems have vanished because of poor choices and steep costs that eroded much of their consumer base. Occasionally, it appears as though businesses consistently miscalculate the preferences of the gaming audience and the desires of gamers themselves.


 I've often been astounded by what happens in the gaming hardware sector; once a company has released a hit product, they sometimes go on to make bizarre decisions that can nearly destroy their reputation.


 I'm confident that Switch 2 will perform exceptionally well in sales, but questions remain about its game attachment rate and how many units might ultimately become pre-owned inventory. Given that it targets the more occasional gamers, Nintendo must recognize the potential instability of such a customer base. Both Sony and Microsoft, reportedly developing portable systems themselves, will likely observe the reception of the Switch 2 before finalising their strategies. Furthermore, considering trends from recent years where player communities have generally decreased in size across platforms, it remains to be seen whether Nintendo can defy these odds; after all, they've managed quite impressively so far with the original Switch—unlike GameCube days.


 Sony has consistently excelled in gaming hardware. However, like all others, they've occasionally made puzzling moves that detracted from the PlayStation brand. Throughout the years, numerous companies in the gaming sector have squandered their achievements with a series of poor judgments. Therefore, consider this as a cautionary note: no gaming firm can take continued success for granted, even with a substantial user base, since the gaming industry is unpredictable.

 We’re focusing primarily on theSwitch 2’s graphical capabilities and performance rather than discussing its aesthetic appeal (though it holds up well in that aspect as well).


 When connected to a TV via the dock, the Switch 2 supports a 4K resolution display; in portable mode, it tops out at 1080p with frame rates capable of reaching up to 120fps. High Dynamic Range (HDR), available whether you're using it as a console or on-the-go device, significantly enhances picture quality through better contrast.


 When looking at
 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition
 , the difference between it and the original Switch edition is almost night and day, especially with how much smoother the game runs on the Switch 2 at an increased frame rate and resolution.


 Despite having many textured surfaces, the Switch 2 remained flawless in performance.

 appears exceptionally beautiful and the frame rates in
 Mario Kart World
 didn't fall even once regardless of all the chaotic drama that occurred during

 Bigger is better
</h2>

 The Switch 2 features an increased screen size of 7.9 inches, up from the original Switch’s 6.2 inches, which consequently makes the attached Joy-Cons proportionally larger as well.


 The larger display with enhanced resolution and improved performance stands out significantly, despite being LCD rather than OLED.


 Larger Joy-Cons render the Switch 2 more comfortable and less finicky to use, with enhancements like slightly bigger shoulder buttons significantly improving the gaming experience.


 Using the Joy-Cons separately, combined as one controller, or attached to the console itself is significantly more enjoyable compared to its predecessor.

 Mouse controls

 To be honest, heading into the Switch 2 event, I didn't have high hopes for the mouse controls.


 It seemed Nintendo was keen to demonstrate this achievement and the effort put into developing these features through various games that allowed players to experience them firsthand.


 Certain new features might seem somewhat superficial and could come off as a little gimmicky.

 was utterly impressed by how smooth and intuitive the mouse controls were to use.


 Admittedly,

 seldom plays PC games and prefers consoles, yet found the way mouse controls were implemented to be inventive, refreshing, and enjoyable.
