 Approximately 45% of firms surveyed in Singapore intend to transfer the additional expenses stemming from new U.S. tariffs to their clients, according to a recent poll.


 The AmCham Singapore stated on April 2nd that other companies plan to counter this situation by broadening their supplier networks to minimize dependence on markets with heavy tariffs. Additionally, they aim to capitalize on chances to increase their market presence as rivals who are less quick to adjust lose ground.


 The quick poll revealed that over two-thirds of the 36 participants identified possible retaliatory tariffs on nations that impose taxes on U.S. imports as their primary worry regarding their businesses, rather than current trade policies.


 Almost seven out of ten (69%) stated they anticipate
 the new tariffs
 to exert a considerable or somewhat adverse effect on their operations.


 The survey results were released prior to the White House’s announcement on April 2, which outlined extensive reciprocal tariffs targeting America’s trade allies.


 Approximately 20% of those surveyed think these measures won't impact their business at all.


 Frank Debets, who leads customs and trade efforts for Asia-Pacific at PwC Singapore, did not agree with this view. He stated that it would be "unexpected" if businesses claiming no effect were completely protected from subsequent repercussions.


 For example, their suppliers and clients might face disruptions, impairing their capacity to purchase or supply goods and services, or they could become targets of reciprocal actions initiated elsewhere, he mentioned.

 George Town, April 6 – In the past, the Chingay Parade in Penang would attract massive crowds with throngs of spectators lining the streets, eagerly stretching their necks to witness the incredible stunts performed by the artists who effortlessly balanced and passed 10-metre-long poles adorned with flags between them.


 The Penang Chingay Parade, which wound its way through the streets of George Town, beginning at Padang Brown in Datuk Keramat and concluding at the Esplanade, frequently attracted both residents and tourists due to more than just its acrobatic displays featuring large flags. The parade also showcased stilt walkers, unicycle riders, lion dances, and dragon dances.

 Kayden Ang, who chairs Persatuan Chingay Malaysia Utara, mentioned that previously, the funding for the event came from private firms, temples, and organizations. Their logos and names were incorporated into large banners through embroidery.


 He mentioned, “Currently, attracting sponsors has become difficult as not many individuals show interest in Chingay.”


 The expenses involved in constructing the large banners, which consist of lengthy bamboo stalks and chiffon fabric, might amount to several hundred ringgits solely for the poles. This is because they needed to obtain perfectly straight bamboo stalks with precise measurements and dimensions.


 “He mentioned that even the fabric comes with a hefty price tag since we use chiffon for its lightness, which might run into a few thousand dollars.”

 Apart from the expenses involved, he mentioned that most of the current participants are blue-collar employees who can’t afford to miss work for training sessions. Although there are younger members joining, few stay actively engaged for extended periods.


 The society boasts around 300 members; however, merely 80 of them actively participate and contribute their skills.


 From that group, merely around 40 can execute acrobatic maneuvers with the large banners, and very few among them are youngsters.


 "They mentioned that many of the acrobatic performers are over 40 years old, with hardly anyone under 30," he stated.


 He mentioned that the organization includes young participants as early as eight or nine years old; however, these children will initially master handling small banners. Eventually, though, they tend to cease their involvement altogether.


 "This is precisely why we believe that this collaborative nomination to UNESCO for Chingay holds significant importance," he stated, pointing towards the effort aimed at getting Chingay listed in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.


 He mentioned it might generate greater local engagement and potentially encourage more kids to take an interest in the sport.

 As per Chingay coach Lee Kok Keong, mastering the acrobatic aspect of the sport requires genuine interest and enthusiasm from individuals.


 He mentioned that training is rigorous and frequently leads to injuries, including cracked teeth, as they learn to grasp the bamboo poles using only their mouths.


 He mentioned that one of the most effective methods to generate awareness and enthusiasm is by incorporating the sport into school curriculums.


 "It’s an excellent activity for enhancing balance, strength, and agility," Lee mentioned.


 In the meantime, Andrew Lai, the secretary of the Penang Chingay Association, voiced similar concerns as Ang, noting that fewer youngsters are showing interest in learning about Chingay.


 He mentioned that parents are more overprotective towards their kids due to safety worries, and apart from that, they fail to recognize the advantages of having them learn Chingay.


 Lai mentioned that wushu and lion dance are more popular compared to Chingay due to their status as recognized sports with many competitions available.

 “Therefore, we anticipate that this Unesco bid will elevate Chingay as a cultural event and generate greater enthusiasm for the activity,” he stated.


 He mentioned that one of the suggestions put forward for the nomination was to establish standardized regulations for Chingay competitions since presently, there are no specific guidelines or scoring systems in place.


 "This will establish a benchmark for Chingay, and as a result, more events can be organized. With these events, additional individuals will likely want to participate and learn about it," he stated.


 Ang further mentioned that it’s essential to have standardized competition regulations for Chingay to avoid biased scoring and, concurrently, develop an internationally competitive event where other nations can join in.


 "Once we secure the Unesco listing, I am confident it will lead to greater economic advantages for Penang and also highlight Chingay," Lai stated.


 Associations from Penang and Johor Bahru are collaborating with Singapore on a shared Unesco application for Chingay.


 Lai mentioned that they have participated in workshops and meetings alongside representatives from Johor Baru and Singapore to deliberate on the collective nomination. This included choosing which videos and photographs should be submitted to UNESCO for consideration.

 SINGAPORE, March 24 — All Cold Storage and Giant supermarkets across Singapore are set to be purchased by Malaysian retail company Macrovalue for an initial amount of S$125 million (RM414 million).


 DFI Retail Group and Macrovalue disclosed today that the agreement encompasses 48 Cold Storage shops—operating under the CS Fresh, CS Gold, and Jason’s Deli labels—as well as 41 Giant locations and two distribution centers.

 The deal is anticipated to conclude during the latter part of 2025, with Macrovalue obtaining complete control over the enterprises.


 Listed in Singapore, DFI announced that it plans to redirect its attention towards managing its Guardian Pharmacy and 7-Eleven convenience store activities in Singapore as well as other regions such as Thailand, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.

Throughout his career with DFI, he has taken on various high-level positions such as CEO of Cold Storage Singapore and CEO of Group Convenience, where he managed 7-Eleven operations across Hong Kong, South China, and Singapore.


 The CEO of DFI, Scott Price, mentioned that the corporation will concentrate on expanding its Guardian and 7-Eleven operations moving forward.


 "In the current climate where food prices and inflation are increasing, it is crucial to utilize our size and streamline operations to safeguard customers against price fluctuations while keeping up with quality and service benchmarks," he stated.

 DFI’s grocery business in Singapore became profitable again in 2024 following several years of deficits, although the firm anticipates that income will stay steady due to intense rivalry.


 In 2024, 11 Giant outlets closed, while five new stores opened under DFI’s supermarket brands, including CS Fresh in Chancery Court and New Bahru, Cold Storage in Pasir Ris Mall and Suntec City, and Giant in Tengah Plantation Plaza.


 Some existing outlets, including Giant at IMM in Jurong East and Simei MRT station, as well as Cold Storage in Tampines 1, have been renovated and upgraded.

 Perayaan untuk menyambut Tahun Baru Tradisional Thailand, yang umumnya dirayakan di Negeri Gajah Putih, bakal diselenggarakan di Downtown East, Singapura. Atmosfer main air dan beragam kegembiraan dari perayaan ikonis di Wild Wild Wet akan dilaksanakan sepanjang satu bulan penuh mulai tanggal 15 Maret sampai dengan 15 April 2025.


 Sebagai festival air, kegiatan menarik sekaligus segar menjadi fokus utama dari acara tersebut dan sangat ditunggu-tunggu oleh para pengunjung. Di area Utama Perang Air Wild Wild Wet, terdapat Labirin Berpuff dengan ukuran 8 meter kali 8 meter serta Tempat Melompat untuk membasahi, yaito lokasi dimana wisatawan dapat merasakan keseruan main air bersama sahabat ataupun keluarganya.

 Pertarungan air sampai pementasan budaya

 Pada perayaan kali ini, Hadir pula produk baru yaitu Hasbro Nerf Super Soaker Dunk-Fill Water Blaster, yang merupakan peningkatan dari senjata air konvensional. Dalam wadah dunk tersebut, para pengunjung dapat menikmati sensasi terjun ke dalam semburan air tekanan tinggi akibat serangan teman mereka sendiri.


 Para tamu juga bisa menyaksikan pertunjukan demo seni bela diri khas Thailand, yaitu Muay Thai. Acara berlangsung dari 15 hingga 17 Maret pukul 11.00 sampai 13.00 waktu setempat di Event Square, E!Avenue Lantai 2. Tidak hanya itu, tersedia kelas percobaan Muay Thai bagi anak-anak untuk belajar bela olahraga dari Thailand. Sesi ini cocok bagi keluarga yang ingin mempelajari dasar-dasar seni bela diri yang dinamis.


 Kemudian, pengunjung juga disuguhkan tari tradisional yang menggambarkan kebudayaan Thailand. Setiap pertunjukan menceritakan kisah uni, mengenang kekayaan budaya, persatuan, dan warisan negeri melalui gerakan elegan serta kostum yang semarak. Persembahan dilakukan di dua tempat, yakni di Event Square pada 15 sampai 17 Maret pukul 10.45 dan 22 Maret dan 12 April pukul 12.00 di Wild Wild Wet Entrance dan pukul 15.00 di D’Resort,

 Acara ini akan menghadirkan penampilan langsung dari runner-up The Voice Thailand, Tachaya Prathumwan, yang dikenal juga sebagai Keng. Penyanyi itu akan tampil dalam pada 22 Maret dan 12 April pukul 18.00 sampai 21.00 waktu setempat. Pertunjukan tersebut menggabungkan musik Asia Tenggara dengan irama tradisional Thailand sehingga menciptakan lagu-lagu asyik untuk dinikmati pengunjung.


 Selain menikmati pertempuran air, pengunjung juga dapat menyaksikan pemutaran film luar ruangan. Film

 akan diputar masing-masing pada 22 Maret serta 12 April 2025, pukul 19.00 hingga 21.00 waktu setempat. Di sini, penonton bisa bersantai di atas bean bag, menikmati popcorn gratis dan permen kapas LED. Untuk mendapatkan kenyamanan itu, wisatawan harus datang lebih awal, karena semuanya tersedia berdasarkan siapa cepat dia dapat.


 Tiket masuk harian eksklusif Songkran, dijual dengan harga berbeda. Ketika jam sibuk dibanderol $39 (Rp639.600) bagi dewasa, sedangkan untuk anak-anak biaya masuk sebesar $29 (Rp475.600). Biaya masuk di luar jam sibuk dijual seharga $22 (Rp360.800) bagi dewasa dan $16 (Rp196.800) untuk anak-anak. Tiket hanya tersedia 15 Maret sampai 14 April 2025 untuk pembelian daring, berlaku selama satu hari dengan akses tidak terbatas selama jam operasional.

 adalah festival tahunan terbesar serta terpenting di Negeri Gajah Putih. Perayaan ini biasanya dirayakan selama tiga hari dimulai dari bulan purnama pertama di bulan April. Hal itu dikarenakan negara ini menggunakan kalender Buddha Theravada lunisolar. Tahun ini, acara jatuh pada 13 hingga 15 April 2025 dan menandai dimulainya musim hujan.


 Hari pertama festival dilakukan dengan pembersihan musim semi dan upacara penuangan air. Selama upacara, air wangi dituangkan ke patung Buddha suci di kuil. Pada hari kedua, pemuda-pemudi memberikan penghormatan kepada orang yang lebih tua dengan cara menuangkan air wangi ke tangan dan kaki mereka sebagai balasan atas berkat dan kalungan bunga.
