People have been informed that it is now too late to evacuate due to an uncontrolled bushfire burning north of Perth.

The Western Australian Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has issued an urgent warning early today for people located in Ledge Point. This area is bordered by Old Ledge Point Road to the north, Indian Ocean Drive to the east, Bennies Road to the south, and the coastline to the west.

People who were initially instructed to leave are now being warned that it is not safe to do so because the fire has impacted the evacuation routes.

The DFES instructed inhabitants to seek refuge in an interior space containing flowing water prior to the arrival of the fire, cautioning that the intense heat was capable of being fatal.

They are being encouraged to take immediate action to ensure their survival as there is a danger threatening both lives and properties.

Earlier, some residents evacuated to the Lancelin Community Sports Centre.

The bushfire began around 1 am (AEWT) and is currently spreading uncontrollably toward the Ledge Point townsite. The fire is advancing in a westerly then northwesterly direction.

Firefighters along with helicopters are present attempting to control the fire.

People living in areas around Ledge Point, Karakin, and Lancelin—bounded by Lancelin Road and Seaview Drive to the north, K W Road and Indian Ocean Drive to the east, Old Ledge Point Road to the south, and the coast to the west—are urged to keep an eye on developments because of the close-by bushfire.

The region is presently subject to a severe fire risk alert due to temperature spikes reaching the middle 30s Celsius in certain areas of the state.
