A teenager accused of planning a terrorist attack in Brisbane last year allegedly bought ingredients to make bombs and tested homemade explosives.

The boy, who cannot be identified under Queensland's youth justice laws, faced the Brisbane Childrens Court on Thursday, where he was committed to stand trial.

He appeared via video link from a detention centre where he is being held on remand.

His lawyer was expected to make an application for bail, but the hearing was abandoned and the matter went ahead as a full hand up committal.

The court heard between May and July of last year, the teenager allegedly researched bomb making instructions and purchased explosives ingredients.

It also heard he allegedly tested both thermal chemical reactions and homemade explosives.

No plea entered

The Commonwealth prosecution submitted several witness statements to the magistrate, and his lawyer made no submissions.

It was conceded his client had a prima facie case and consented to his charge being committed to the Supreme Court.

A magistrate instructed him to appear at trial due to a single charge related to preparing or planning a terrorist act.

When queried about whether he wanted to comment on the charges, the youth responded: "No, I choose not to make any statement."

He was kept in custody and his hearing was pushed back to another day.
