Portia Osei and Linda Asante, the founding members of the Ghanaian gospel band the Angels, have drawn public interest following the appearance of new clips online on various social platforms.
In a sequence of videos reviewed by Diwida |.gh The ex-child musicians, now residing overseas after departing from Ghana several years back, have grown into mature adults and transformed so much that they are barely recognizable.
The lead vocalist of The Angels, Linda Asante—commonly referred to as Angels Linda—recently posted a video on her verified TikTok account showing her enjoying time off overseas. In the clip, the artist radiates joy as she rides a bus following her departure from her flat during the early hours of the day.
Linda Asante captured her joyful rendition of the gospel track "Me Nwom," performed by popular Kumawood star Lil Win and featuring renowned vocalist Naa Jacque from Prophet Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah’s Believers Worship Center church.
A clip posted by Angels' second member, Portia Osei, featured her at ease in her residence where she recounted a dream concerning her life and doomsday.
The ascent of The Angels to stardom and their break
In the 2000s, The Angels gained recognition in Ghana’s gospel music industry when they were still youngsters attending Dr. Kwaku Oteng's prestigious Angel Educational Complex school in Kumasi, which he founded as part of his business ventures.
The two individuals, Linda Asante and Portia Osei, who came from a Christian family background, spent their childhoods in the same neighborhood of Akumandan in Kumasi, growing up together.
The gospel music ensemble signed a recording contract with Brain Media Network. With this label, they launched their popular track "Kae Me," which received extensive playtime on both television and radio. In addition, they brought out their debut album in 2005.
Later, the Angels gospel music ensemble grew by adding another member named Bishop, said to be the sibling of both Linda Asante and Portia Osei, thus forming a trio.
Later, the group disbanded as all members moved overseas for further studies and better opportunities, with Linda Asante starting her solo gospel music journey.
During an interview in 2019, the members of Angels voiced their regrets about collaborating with their previous manager, Kofi Nkosuo. They alleged that he had defrauded them of earnings generated through their musical endeavors while under his management.
