They pointed to internal disarray along with the organization’s recent agreement for sharing immigrants' data as reasons behind her decision.
Krause's resignation was announced just a day following the IRS’s pact with Homeland Security to share information for identifying undocumented immigrants within the U.S., according to two officials. told CNN , The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal .
On Monday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem approved allowing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to send the details of immigrants to the IRS for verifying their tax documents.
Krause is anticipated to step down from her role at the tax-collection authority on April 28, as part of the delayed resignation option provided to federal workers, as per the reports.
"A representative from the Treasury Department, which supervises the IRS, stated that Melanie Krause has been guiding the agency during a period of unprecedented transformation," according to an official release.
