 TheToronto Raptors' consistent schedule for rest days remains unaltered for Sunday.


 Immanuel Quickley and Jakob Poeltl will sit out the game against the Brooklyn Nets, with their teammates Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and Ulrich Chomche also sidelined, according to DIWIDA News’s Blake Murphy who reported this news on Saturday.


 Dick, 21, was
 eliminated for the rest of the season
 On Friday, he was sidelined because of a bruised right knee that he injured on March 2 against the Orlando Magic. The player selected as the 13th overall pick last year has already been out for the Raptors' past 17 games due to an injury.


 Since March 7, Poeltl and Quickley have taken turns resting every alternate game, switching off with RJ Barrett and most recently with Ochai Agbaji.

 Quickley, who is 25 years old, has appeared in just 32 games this season because of multiple injuries. This is his debut season with Toronto, where he is scoring an average of 17.4 points, grabbing 3.6 rebounds, and providing 5.9 assists per game.


 Poeltl, who is 29 years old, is experiencing a standout season statistically, with career-best averages of 14.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.

 BOSTON — Jaylen Brown contributed 31 points and made three long-range shots as the Boston Celtics shattered the NBA’s single-season record for three-pointers with their commanding 123-103 win against the Phoenix Suns on Friday (Saturday morning in Manila).


 Boston hit 14 out of 39 three-point attempts, raising their season tally to 1,370. This surpassed the former record set by Golden State, which had 1,363 during the 2022-23 season. Following the end of their nine-game win streak in their last match, the Celtics cruised to this victory.


 Jayson Tatum contributed with 23 points, along with eight rebounds and eight assists. Before leaving for the locker room early in the last quarter, holding a towel against his nose after being struck by an elbow from Phoenix’s Cody Martin during a drive towards the hoop, Kristaps Porzingis scored 15 points.


 Porzingis lifted his hands above his head and gestured to the audience as he made his way towards the exit. He later rejoined the bench with an injury that needed stitching, according to the team’s statement.


 Devin Booker topped the scoring for the Suns with 37 points. The team from Phoenix has now suffered five consecutive losses.


 Early in the second quarter, Boston took a lead of over ten points thanks to Payton Pritchard's three-point shot. They extended this advantage to twenty points halfway through the period and went into halftime with a fourteen-point lead.


 In Phoenix, Boston defeated the Suns by 30 points as part of their successful 6-0 road trip slightly more than a week back.


 The Wizards: Bradley Beal came back after sitting out eight games due to a hamstring injury. However, he seemed off his game, scoring zero points despite attempting seven shots—including three from beyond the arc—and making only one of his two foul shots over the course of 30 minutes. ...  The Celtics: Occasionally, Tatum, Brown, and Porzingis appear capable of taking turns putting points on the board against particular teams.  When the tournament conducts its draw ceremony on Tuesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, GILAS Pilipinas will find out which teams they will face during the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 group stage.


 The 16 participating teams have been divided into four groups according to their FIBA rankings, and the Philippines will face one opponent from each group. As the host nation, Saudi Arabia opted to be placed in Pot 1.


 The lottery draw will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. GMT (6 p.m. Philippine Standard Time).


 According to the draft seeding, the Filipinos will face a team from either Australia, Japan, New Zealand, or Saudi Arabia in Pot 1; Jordan, South Korea, Syria, or Chinese Taipei in Pot 3; and India, Qatar, Guam, or Iraq in Pot 4.


 Gilas falls into Pot 2 along with Iran, Lebanon, and China, indicating they will not encounter these countries unless all of them progress to the playoff stage.

 In the group stage, potential adversaries for Filipino players could be New Zealand.  Another Team 3 squad from Chinese Taipei is another possible rival during the group stage, a side that beat the Philippines with a score of 91-84 in the February window, led by players such as Mohammad Al Bachir Gadiaga.


 Gilas might face Jericho Cruz during the group stage since he has been playing for Guam in FIBA tournaments. Guam ended up in Pot 4 following their qualification for the Asia Cup via a qualifying competition held last March.


 Australia and Japan are also under consideration, with Australia as the reigning champion of the Asia Cup and Japan having eliminated the Philippines, 102-81, in the FIBA Asia Cup 2022 qualifiers en route to reaching the quarterfinals.

 The NBA’s executive vice president Joe Dumars stated that Morant, who faced two suspensions in 2023 due to incidents involving actual guns, received a warning from the league following his initial celebratory act. The league informed him that such an action might be perceived negatively. Dumars described the behavior as “inappropriate.”


 Morant received his initial warning when he and Golden State’s Buddy Hield performed the gesture of pretending to aim a gun at each other during the Grizzlies-Warriors game on Tuesday.


 Morant subsequently performed comparable actions during a match against the Miami Heat on Thursday, with these signals aimed at his fellow Grizzlies teammates.


 Morant notched 30 points and hit the decisive shot as the Grizzlies secured a 110-108 win against Miami.


 In 2023, Morant faced suspension twice, accumulating to a total of 33 games, following incidents where he was seen brandishing guns in videos that went viral on social platforms.


 In March of 2023 he was banned eight games for live streaming a video in which he displayed a gun while at a Denver nightclub.


 He faced a ban of 25 games for the 2023-24 season following another incident where he was seen with a gun inside a vehicle in a video. The league commented that his choice to “yet again brandish a weapon on social media remains disturbing and concerning.”

 I dedicated some time exploring the remarkably impressive Seton Hall basketball performance center in South Orange and talked with Athletic Director Bryan Felt about the department’s strategy for managing the team’s funding and roster. The most significant insight I gained from this conversation was that the university administration is now actively involved in supporting the basketball program.
 
 
 It appears that this is quite an important step forward. Legally speaking, the upcoming opportunity for educational institutions to generate income through shared revenues paved the way for this collaboration. However, when considering the broader picture, it looks like the higher-ups at the university may have hindered the progress of the athletics division compared to leaders at similar universities who took more initiative in establishingNIL structures within their own programs. The chaos and mismanagement evident from the numerous legal disputes involving the Seton Hall board of regents and presidential administration only compounded matters. This situation essentially placed additional pressure on the athletic department—and particularly Shaheen Holloway—to manage these challenges independently.

 ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — After 25 seasons leading the Northwestern men’s basketball team, Coach Kris Korver has decided to step down. The leadership of the program will now transition to Colton Kooima and Ben Miller.


 During his time as the head coach of the Red Raiders, Korver amassed 574 victories, including two NAIA Division II national championships and 19 appearances in the NAIA Tournament. This alumnus from the class of 1992 at Northwestern led the team to six GPAC Tournament titles.


 Colton Kooima has been appointed as the ninth head coach of the men’s basketball team at Northwestern University. He returns to his roots in Orange City following his role as the head assistant coach at Augustana College. During his playing days, he was named to the NAIA First Team twice and amassed an impressive total of 2,441 career points with the Red Raiders, placing him third on their all-time scoring list.


 Ben Miller has transitioned into the role of associate head coach. He was inducted into the Northwestern Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021 after concluding his playing days in Orange City, where he earned three NAIA All-American recognitions and received the 2013 GPAC Player of the Year accolade.

 When the SEC appointed Mike Tranghese almost a decade back, his primary task was to address issues within men’s basketball.


 Initially, Tranghese carried out that task in secrecy, making phone calls, jotting down notes, and providing guidance to newcomers.

 As he proceeded, it became evident immediately that the SEC required superior officials, improved coaching appointments, and increased financial as well as emotional commitment from its football-centric institutions. However, it was equally crucial for the present coaches to serve as unapologetic advertisements for all things related to SEC basketball. The conference needed these coaches to commit wholeheartedly, despite feeling they were being left to navigate their challenges alone.


 When Tranghese initially joined those coaches, he found himself among acquaintances. John Calipari, who was coaching Kentucky back then, had been an old acquaintance for years. Tranghese also recognized Rick Barnes, both now and previously the head coach at Tennessee, from his tenure at Providence. Given this familiarity, Tranghese—a man known for direct communication—felt comfortable expressing his thoughts openly. And so, he proceeded to do just that.


 “He remembered telling the coaches, ‘You receive decent wages. You have access to great facilities. Plus, you even run your own TV channel,’ ” he said. “The truth is, you simply need to quit complaining about every little thing.”


 In other words, as Tranghese explained by phone this week: You have the money, money rules, use it.


 By 2025, the world of college sports had transformed significantly, making this piece of guidance appear both wise and foresightful. The era when the SEC routinely received merely three or four spots in the NCAA Men’s Tournament was history. In fact, this year marked an all-time high as the conference secured 14 berths. Impressively, seven of these teams advanced to the Sweet 16 stage.

 Justin Brownlee concluded an outstanding display with a thumbs-up signal from the very finger that had been dislocated just two nights earlier, raising questions about whether he would be able to continue playing in the remainder of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.


 It was a decisive moment that represented new optimism for Barangay Ginebra, following their victory of 95-78 against TNT at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City last Friday evening. This win suggests they might finally triumph over TNT after coming up short in earlier championship battles.


 The moment they secured my thumb, I felt confident about playing," Brownlee stated following his performance of scoring 23 points, which helped the popular team tie the series at 2-2 and transform the championship match into a best-of-three contest.


 Brownlee was considered questionable for the game after sustaining an injury during Ginebra’s Game 3 loss.Coach Tim Cone mentioned that several alternatives were pondered, one of which involved replacing Brownlee with Ange Kouame, the naturalized player from Gilas Pilipinas.

 The outcome ruined TNT’s Rondae Hollis-Jefferson's evening as he was limited to just 14 points on 5-of-18 shooting following his pre-game recognition as the best import. Meanwhile, NorthPort’s Arvin Tolentino claimed the Best Player of the Conference honor.


 Hollis-Jefferson secured the prize for the top overseas player for the third consecutive time following his tally of 1,280 points, surpassing NorthPort’s Kadeem Jack who had 825 points, as well as Brownlee with 670 points and Rain or Shine’s Deon Thompson with 633 points.

 While both the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers won their most recent games with impact players missing, only one is expected to have its stars back when the teams meet Wednesday in Los Angeles.


 The Lakers still are expected to be without LeBron James (groin) and Rui Hachimura (knee), but the Nuggets are likely to have Nikola Jokic (ankle, elbow) and Jamal Murray (ankle) on the court.


 Both Denver stars sat out on Monday against the Golden State Warriors, as did Christian Braun (foot), and the Nuggets still pulled off a 114-105 road victory over one of the NBA’s hottest teams.

 While the debate rages on whether the Nuggets should have rested so much firepower for a nationally televised game, Nuggets head coach Michael Malone found a lot to like about the performance.


 “You don’t have the three-time MVP, who’s (scoring) 30 points a night. You don’t have Jamal Murray, who’s 20 points a night. You don’t have (Braun), who’s the No. 1 transition player in the league,” Malone said. “Well, that means we’ve got to play hard, we’ve got to play desperate, we’ve got to play urgent, and we did that for 48 minutes. Our guys left it all on the court.”


 The Nuggets (44-25) share second place in the Western Conference, but have just a one-game lead on the Lakers (42-25). Denver has wobbled of late — going 3-3 since March 9 — while earning a 131-126 home victory over the Lakers on Friday.


 Jokic scored 28 points with seven rebounds in the victory over Los Angeles, while Aaron Gordon stepped up with 38 points in Monday’s victory over the Warriors.


 The Lakers not only were without James and Hachimura at Denver last week, Luka Doncic sat out with calf and ankle soreness and big man Jaxson Hayes (knee) did not play.

 Austin Reaves scored 30 points, Doncic had 21 and Hayes chipped in nine points with 11 rebounds as the Lakers earned a 125-109 home victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. Los Angeles was in control throughout against the short-handed Spurs and led by as many as 28.


 “I think it was 48 (3-point attempts) and 34 were uncontested,” Lakers head coach JJ Redick said. “… Our offensive decision-making and consistency where we had four really good offensive quarters was great.”


 Doncic found ways to contribute, even as his shooting touch has yet to fully return after a long layoff from a Christmas Day calf injury. The Lakers’ trade-deadline addition was just 5-of-20 shooting — including 1 of 7 from 3-point range — but made an additional impact with 14 assists and nine rebounds to nearly have a triple-double.


 “People start learning that at some point in the game, they’re going to double-team me,” Doncic said. “I accept that, and I like playing that. It saves my energy. We just get to play four on three. Guys are doing great out of that.”


 Denver has a 2-1 lead over Los Angeles heading into the final game of the season series. Counting playoff games, the Nuggets have won 14 of 16 matchups with the Lakers going back to January 2023.
