 Trophy Named After Governor Sanwo-Olu In Recognition Of Support For Sports Development
 


 Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday restated his administration’s commitment to youth engagement and community development through sports.


 He threw his full support behind a two-week international pre-season tournament being organised by SuperSport Nigeria and Eko International Cup in Lagos, saying his administration will continue to create an enabling environment for corporate and sports-loving organisations to thrive.


 Sanwo-Olu spoke during a courtesy visit by the General Manager, SuperSport Nigeria, Mr Felix Awogu, and the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Eko International Cup, Mr Ifeanyi Ogbu, at the Lagos House, Marina.


 During the event, Awogu and Ogbu, who were accompanied by members of the Organising Committee of the football competition, presented the winning Trophy for the Eko International Cup, the Official Match Ball ‘YIKA’ and the Official Jersey to the Governor.


 In a statement by Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sanwo-Olu assured that Lagos will be a welcoming and secure city for both local and international participants.


 He said the tournament presents an opportunity to work hand in hand to provide support to upcoming talents in Africa, especially in Lagos.


 The Governor also appreciated the organisers for naming the trophy after him. He assured them that the gesture will make him to work harder in the service of the good people of Lagos State.


 He said: “We are happy that the international pre-season tournament is happening in Lagos. There are so many opportunities the competition would give young talented footballers. We are in support of the competition.


 The Lagos State Government through the Sports Commission will continue to be available. We will continue to create that enabling environment where businesses will partner with government and create a platform that the citizens will benefit from. “I want to commend both the founder and others for deeming it fit to name the competition in my name. We will ensure that the stadium is full, and we will encourage people to come. We hope it will be a successful competition.”


 Speaking earlier, the General Manager of SuperSports, Mr Felix Awugo, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s giant strides in infrastructural development in different parts of the state and improved security of lives and property, as well as the administration’s commitment to youths and sports development.

 I'm not sure why, but I noticed that all the top players had jersey number 10. So, I told them, "I want number 10." At that point, I wasn't playing as a left-back anymore, so I simply requested to wear the number 10.


 
 Whom among the players did you find impressive back then?
 


 There were many players, including Messi, all those who had the number 10 jersey back then.


 
 What emotions come up for you when you see your initial license here?
 


 It's a lovely recollection. It marked my first appearance.

 Have you always dreamed of becoming a footballer?
 


 Absolutely, all the time. However, I wasn't actively seeking out a club. My friends and I were hanging around the streets when it was that same teacher whom you pointed out who led me to join the club. He happened to be my gym instructor, and he would transport me to practice sessions using his vehicle before dropping me home afterward. This routine continued daily following school hours.


 
 Was his name Bruno?
 


 His name was Bruno.


 
 Does he take you for a two-hour drive every day?
 


 Certainly, but not daily; it was only on three days each week.


 
 Were you wearing that blue shirt?
 


 Sure, but I didn’t have any shoes, see? Somebody loaned them to me.


 
 Whose shoes are they?
 


 The shoes belong to me; they were given to me by my teammate’s mom, specifically the captain’s mother. All I wanted were some shoes to play with in the streets since I didn’t have any at all.


 
 So your team leader’s mother handed over his shoes to you as a present?
 


 Indeed, you're correct; his name is Fabio.


 
 Is he still considered a friend?
 


 No.

 I make an effort to spare some time and visit the place. To check out their current situation ((looks at the picture)), however, previously, there wasn't any synthetic material; instead, there was something I can't quite describe—it was like dirt.


 
 Are you playing a season there?
 


 One month, one month.


 
 In just one month, Sporting Lisbon comes searching for you?
 


 Yes.

 What led Sporting to seek you out?
 


 It happened during a tournament. The person who took me to Sporting noticed me. He mentioned wanting to speak with me, yet at that point, I wasn't aware of his identity. He stated, "I represent Sporting; I came specifically to watch you play, and I really liked your style." After the game, we did not cross paths again.


 It was a story I've recounted numerous times. That particular day, while I was at school, I stepped out for some reason. He trailed me back to my house and rang the bell. Honestly, I had no clue who he was. When I answered the door, all I saw was a knife. Then, he reassured me saying, "Don't be afraid; I'm just here as a Sports Recruiter."


 
 Who is this man?
 


 His name is Aderita. At Sporting, he would assist players who had very little. He'd provide them with cards to purchase food at the shops.


 
 Was he some sort of patron?
 


 Yes, he was.

 He oversaw several underprivileged young individuals.
 


 Certainly, that’s accurate. Take, for instance, the case of my associate named Benjamin. He provided us with this. We felt quite delighted about it.


 
 Are you aware of everything that happened today?
 


 Yes, I understand everything. Even though he passed away today, he was aware that I admired him and he supported me greatly.


 
 How do you feel about sporting events?
 


 Nearly everything, since Sporting bestowed upon me all these things. They have been instrumental in my life both on and off the field. They provided immense support. There was an individual who, during my time at Sporting, would take me home daily.


 I would ride the bus for my training sessions, and afterward, he'd drive me back home because it had become quite late. Our practice started at 6 p.m., and once we finished, typically about 9 p.m., it was too late to catch the bus again.


 I was too young back then, which is why he would always bring me along with him. Nowadays, I occasionally chat with him, and his name is Senhor Vicente. That’s how we addressed him in those days. In the past, he would often take both me and some of my coworkers home.


 
 Is a lucky star hovering above you?
 


 Absolutely, that's the top priority for me. Each day, these memories stay with me. Whether I'm out on the field or celebrating significant victories, I recall everyone who supported me along the way. It brings me great joy knowing they share this happiness with me as well.

 How was your joining ceremony with PSG?
 


 I participated in the selection process. At the final moment, after speaking with my agent, I informed him of my desire to someday play for Paris Saint-Germain.


 
 Did you really?
 


 Sure, and thus he informed me just moments before that PSG had shown interest in me. Without hesitation, I agreed to sign. With only 2 minutes remaining until the transfer window closed, we managed to pull through. Here I stand now.

We're all aware of what an excellent institution it is. Since joining, my focus has shifted towards maintaining momentum moving forward.


 
 Is it not a simple task at PSG, but do you sense yourself as part of the Paris Saint-Germain narrative?
 


 Sure, you might put it that way, step by step. It’s not complete just yet, but gradually, I am attempting to etch my presence into this club, and I believe I'm heading in the correct direction. My teammates are exceptional players; they assist me daily. In my view, I must continue moving forward to leave an indelible impression on this club.


 
 If you encountered your future self 10 years from now, young boy, what would you tell him?
 


 Perhaps I'd let him know that he has picked the correct route. That he finds himself in an advantageous position and should continue forward as this merely marks the start of his journey. There remains quite a distance for him to cover within the realm of soccer.


 
 Would you consider purchasing a pair of shoes for him?
 


 Sure, 1 2 3. No problem at all (haha).

 “It’s tough,” Sinclair responded to former All Black, Jeff Wilson. “Maybe it’s on the game controllers, thinking a bit more territory and plugging it in the corners. We wanted play our footy, but once they got on top of that was hard.


 “To be fair, we had our opportunities. Straight after half-time we went straight in their 22 with a lineout and we mucked it up and went down the other end. We can’t complain that we didn’t have our opportunities. It’s going to sting that one.”

 Teenager soccer player Charlie Watson has declared that he will keep battling following his diagnosis with skin cancer.

 Watson, who represents Threave Rovers in Scotland and formerly played for Queen of the South, was informed that he has only a few weeks left to live.


 Watson, 19, shared on social media: "The past several weeks have been incredibly challenging, but things are looking better now. About four weeks ago, I was informed that the cancer was progressing quickly and had reached my hip and spine. Doctors said I had mere weeks left."


 Learning about it was utterly heartbreaking, yet I realized I wouldn’t allow it to triumph over me. I’ve begun various therapies and am working with a nutritionist who’s guiding me through a rigorous eating plan.


 I wouldn't have been able to accomplish this without the contributions and backing everyone has provided until now, so I deeply appreciate your gratitude.


 Watson honored his mother and declared that he will 'triumph over this challenge.'

 Watson was diagnosed with nodular malignant melanoma following the appearance of a mole on his abdomen during the previous summer. He first spotted it upon coming back from a vacation in Magaluf.


 The mole came off his skin and was taken out of his body; however, tests revealed that he had a type of skin cancer.


 A fundraising effort in Scotland managed to gather more than £60,000, funds that will go toward supporting clinical trial research.

 I've always believed that the Washington Capitals are solid, yet not exceptional. According to Clear Site Analytics from the past few seasons including the 4 Nations Face-Off, their performance has lagged behind in terms of expected goal differential. It’s normal for teams to go through tough periods, but this trend warrants some scrutiny regarding their overall approach.


 When looking at the bigger picture, how might the Metropolitan Division fare in the playoffs? There appears to be potential for an unexpected deep run by one of the teams. While I don't expect them to falter against Montreal or the Rangers in the opening round, they may become more vulnerable during the second round.


 
 2. Could it possibly be Carolina or New Jersey then?
 


 We're set for a matchup between the Hurricanes and the Devils, where Carolina is expected to have an edge, though not too significant. Interestingly, since trading away Mikko Rantanen, the Hurricanes have caught fire. In his place, Logan Stankoven has contributed with six points across 11 games, and the team boasts a record of 9 wins against only 2 losses during this period. Everything appears perfectly aligned now.


 The Hurricanes are speedy and top the NHL in shot-attempt differential, which means they will likely dominate many teams. During the playoffs, facing such pressure requires stellar goaltending, but unfortunately for the Capitals, Logan Thompson has sustained an upper-body injury.

 I doubt the Hurricanes consider themselves a major Stanley Cup contender this season, but it isn't entirely out of the question that with a favorable matchup, they could end up in crucial games later in the playoffs. And once they get that far, who knows what might happen?

 Could they possibly get caught? Absolutely.


 But only if they don't play well.

 Assuming Montreal wins four out of their remaining seven games, bringing their total to 79 points after 75 games—which seems like a plausible estimate—they’d end up with 89 points. In this scenario, for Columbus to overtake them, they'd need an impressive record of 6-1-1. Meanwhile, the Rangers would have to secure five victories out of their last seven matches to take the position from Montreal; however, their closing fixtures include tough matchups against Carolina away, Florida away, and Tampa Bay at home, making it quite challenging for them.


 Therefore, over the coming five nights, Montreal faces three lower-ranked opponents (once they face Detroit on Tuesday, which could determine their elimination and might make them less enthusiastic), whereas the Blue Jackets have matches against three teams that are competing for the playoffs.


 A three-game winning streak pretty much seals it for Montreal. Time to step up, Habs fans.


 
 4. The Bruins performed badly ... or did they?
 


 Despite not always finding success, the Toronto Maple Leafs have proven adept at "tanking." After hitting rock bottom during a tough year, they secured Auston Matthews and promptly climbed their way back into playoff contention. This has led to an impressive streak of nine consecutive postseason appearances, the best in the NHL.


 This year, the Boston Bruins were a serious contender for both playoffs and the top spot within their division in the Atlantic, yet the season began poorly and deteriorated further. From issues surrounding the Jeremy Swayman contract dispute to ultimately trading away team captain Brad Marchand, things only went downhill.


 Nevertheless, if we rewind three months to early January, they were ranked third in the Atlantic division, battling against Florida for a more favorable playoff seeding position. At that time, Florida led them by five points. Just two weeks after that, their standing dropped out of the wildcard positions, and here’s where things stand now:

They might capitalize on these assets over the offseason and position themselves strongly for a playoff spot next year, potentially securing an upcoming All-Star caliber player through the draft.


 
 5. Is it possible for the Predators to do the same?
 


 This season was a disaster for The Predators, possibly due to their significant offseason acquisitions (Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault), who seemed like rejected suitors, spurned by the teams they had hoped to join.  The Flames likely aren't fond of the Wild's upcoming schedule. Minnesota still has six games to play, with only one of those opponents currently qualifying for the playoffs.

 Should Minnesota end up with a record of 3-3 in their remaining matches, they would accumulate an additional six points, bringing their total to 95. In this scenario, Calgary would need to secure at least 6 victories out of 7 possible wins to surpass them since they would fall behind based on the regulation win tiebreaker; thus, achieving only 5 wins, 1 loss, and 1 overtime/shootout loss wouldn't be sufficient for Calgary to overtake Minnesota.

 If the Wild have a record of 2-4, then a 5-2 performance appears much more achievable for Calgary. However, the key factor here is that Calgary needs Minnesota to struggle against weaker teams.


 Another possibility is that the Blues falter and end up with a record of 2-3 or even worse, which would allow the Flames to reach 95 points, potentially giving them the edge in tiebreakers by then. This scenario isn’t out of the question considering St. Louis’s challenging upcoming games.

 Each goalkeeper produced vital stops, several significant interceptions took place along with a few missed opportunities, as both teams fought fiercely for the pride associated with winning a derby match.

 However, Kavanagh posed the main threat to the hosts during the first-half interactions.
 
 
 In the 13th minute, Lewis Temple executed an important tackle as Kavanagh took control of a pass from Jake Mulraney and moved laterally alongside the penalty area to create room for his attempt at scoring.
 
 
 In the 23rd minute, his corner kick demanded a more precise conclusion than what Sean Hoare managed. The header soared well above the crossbar, just like his second-half free-kick which Jamie Lennon also directed over the top.
 
 
 And then, four minutes later, Pat's top player showed clear signs of frustration when he fired a shot just wide after yet another setup by Mulraney.
