 화창한 봄 날씨가 본격 도래한 가운데 야외 활동 인구가 늘고 있다. 실제로 등산, 배드민턴, 테니스, 수영 등 어깨를 많이 사용하는 운동을 즐기는 이들이 많아지는 시기다. 그러나 스포츠 활동 중 갑작스럽게 또는 반복된 동작으로 인해 어깨 통증이 발생하는 경우도 많다. 만약 어깨 통증이 지속된다면 단순 근육통으로 넘기는 것보다 어깨 질환의 하나인 회전근개파열 가능성을 의심해 볼 필요가 있다.
 
 
 
 
 회전근개는 어깨 관절 주변을 둘러싼 4개의 건로 이루어져 있으며, 이러한 구조를 이루고 있는 것은 상부건, 하부건, 외측건, 그리고 소형건입니다. 이들 각각은 팔의 돌리기와 같은 움직임을 도우며, 동시에 어깨관절의 안정성을 확보하는데 중요한 역할을 합니다. 그러나 이런 건들이 한 곳 이상에서 작은 손상을 입거나 지속적인 이용으로 인하여 찢어질 때에는 그 결과로서 통증과 함께 활동 범위가 줄어드는 현상이 나타납니다. 이를 우리는 '회전근개 파열'이라고 부릅니다.
 
 
 
 
 회전근개 파열은 단지 운동 선수들의 전유물이 아닙니다. 요즘에는 스포츠 애호가들을 비롯하여 무거운 것을 자주 들게 되는 직업 그룹과 중년기 이후에 진행되는 퇴행성 변화를 겪고 있는 중장년층에서도 종종 나타납니다. 특히 팔을 들어올리는 행동이나 머리를 뒤로 젖히는 움직임을 지속적으로 하는 사람들 사이에서는 더욱 빈발한다고 알려져 있습니다.
 
 
 
 
 또한 어깨뼈 구조 내에서 특히 견봉이라는 부분의 모양에 따라 회전근개 파열 발생 확률이 다르게 나타날 수 있습니다. 만약 견봉이 평평하지 않고 굽어 있거나 튀어나와 있을 때에는 그만큼 회전근과 접촉하여 마찰 및 자극이 증가하고 이로 인해 파열 위험성이 높아집니다. 이를 '충돌 증후군'이라 부르며, 이러한 현상은 개인마다 다른 원인들—선천적 특성, 생활 패턴, 그리고 운동 방법 등—이 서로 얽혀서 일으키는 것입니다.
 
 
 
 
 회전근개파열의 대표적인 증상은 어깨 통증과 운동 제한이다. 팔을 옆으로 들거나 올렸다 내리는 동작에서 통증이 심하게 느껴진다. 특히 야간에 더욱 심해져 수면을 방해하는 경우가 많다. 심한 경우 팔을 들어 올릴 힘조차 없어지며 팔을 들어 올린 뒤 내릴 때 갑작스럽게 ‘툭’ 떨어지는 현상도 나타난다. 어깨에서 마찰음이 들리는 것도 흔한 증상이다.
 
 
 
 
 그런 증상을 겪고도 치료를 늦추다 보면 작은 찢김이 전부 끊어짐으로 발전할 수 있습니다. 그 시점에서는 수술을 해야 하며 복구 시간 역시 상당히 오래 걸리므로 초기에 정확하게 알아차리고 치료하는 것이 필수적입니다.
 
 
 
 
 처음부터 작은 부분에서 발생하는 파열은 상대적으로 쉬운 치료 방법으로도 증상을 줄이고 기능성을 되찾을 수 있습니다. 대체적인 비수술적 접근 방식에는 마디맞춤요법, 인대 강화를 위한 주사 요법, 외부 충격파 치료 및 주사를 통한 치료 등이 포함됩니다. 그러나 만약 파열 지역이 광범위해지거나 전체적이게 파열되었다면 관절 내시경을 이용하여 손상 부위를 수선하거나 어깨뼈에 있는 돌출된 부분을 정리하기 위해 수술이 필요한 경우가 있을 것입니다.
 
 
 
 
 부천바른정형외과 정지영 원장은 “회전근개파열은 어깨 통증, 운동 제한 등의 증상만으로 오십견, 석회화건염 등과 혼동되기 쉽기 때문에 정확한 감별 진단이 필수적”이라며 “정밀 진단을 바탕으로 각 힘줄의 손상 부위와 범위를 파악한 뒤 의료진 상담을 통해 최적의 치료 방향을 설정해야 한다”고 전했다.

Magpies Ready for a Marathon as They Court De Goey

Collingwood aims to have the wounded star Jordan De Goey ready for their upcoming AFL match against defending champions Brisbane.


 However, the Magpies are ready to take a patient approach regarding the disgruntled midfielder's most recent issue.


 De Goey was replaced due to tactical considerations during the match against Carlton, however, he will not participate in Friday's Gather Round game against Sydney at Adelaide Oval as he has reported discomfort in his ankle and Achilles tendon.


 " It’s relatively small. He has just a slightly cranky ankle," coach Craig McRae stated on Wednesday.


 Last year taught us valuable lessons. We won’t be placing Jordy in situations where one problem turns into two, leaving us scrambling.


 We made up our minds at the beginning of the week to go ahead with the call and have him ready, preferably for Brisbane.


 De Goey will accompany Collingwood to Adelaide followed by Brisbane, intending to compete against the Lions at the Gabba next Thursday.


 McRae maintained that De Goey was being handled carefully for the match against Carlton.

 "There were no indications of this extent," McRae stated.


 He had some minor issues before the match, which led us to think, 'let's take care of him for now'.


 So then after the match on Sunday, we realized he was more sore than expected. Hence, we decide to take a longer-term approach with him.


 We're optimistic about Brisbane being the target, but uncertainty remains.


 The plan remains unchanged; we’ll first head to Adelaide with him, followed by taking him to Brisbane. We will ensure that our entire physiotherapy and high-performance teams are supporting him throughout. Ultimately, our aim is to push him as much as possible leading up to the event in Brisbane.


 De Goey experienced a nightmare year in 2024 due to groin and abdominal issues, and he also sat out the beginning of this season because of knee bone contusions.

 "I recently had a productive conversation with him during the week, and he expressed some frustration as he feels like he's making progress but then slipping back," McRae mentioned.


 Yet again, is it round five already? We still have ample time, and he has put in tremendous effort to reach this point.


 His physical condition has changed significantly compared to this time last year, so it’s just a small hurdle, and we’ll focus on the major match ahead.


 Dan Houston won’t be present at the matches in Sydney and Brisbane as he has been banned following a heavy hit on Carlton’s Lachie Fogarty.


 McRae was not willing to comment on whether Houston, who sat out the beginning of the season due to a suspension he received at Port Adelaide last year, needs to alter his style of play.


 "I'm uncertain about his desire for change. Let’s observe how these matters unfold," he stated.

 However, I believe that missing your top performers isn’t very enjoyable for either a coach or the squad.


 At the end of the season, Brayden Maynard will be a free agent, however, McRae emphasized his focus solely on the impressive performances of this well-regarded defender.


 "He emphasized how enthusiastic (to keep him) remains. He tells him every day just how much his love and appreciation for him endure," he mentioned.


 I'll let others handle the list management. It’s not something I deal with, but I ensure he feels valued and cherished.

Collingwood is being cautious with injured star Jordan De Goey, who is dealing with a "relatively minor" ankle issue.


 De Goey won’t take part in Friday’s match against Sydney following his substitution during the Magpies' 17-point victory over Carlton last week.


 Although the Magpies are optimistic about having De Goey play the subsequent week against Brisbane, coach Craig McRae indicates they plan to "take the longer view with him."


 "He simply has a slightly bothersome ankle; we took heed of what happened last year," he explained.

 "I had a pleasant conversation with him earlier in the week; he seemed quite irritated as he felt like he was making progress but then regressing," he mentioned.


 It’s round five; we still have ample time. He has put in an enormous amount of effort to reach this point.


 He is undoubtedly in a more favorable physical condition compared to last year; however, this year shows a slight regression.


 Collingwood anticipates that the Swans will assign their tagger James Jordan to mark Nick Daicos.


 McRae states that the Magpies plan to "be clever and tactical" in utilizing Daicos, understanding that this key player will keep his opponent occupied.


 "We expect Jordon will pass to Nick since they have played together before; our aim is simply to ensure Nick is in the optimal position to play for us," he stated.

 If it requires him to occasionally set aside his own position for the benefit of others, Nick will make that sacrifice for our sake. It may also mean we have to be clever and tactical about how and when we use Nick.

 A setback has now put his participation in serious jeopardy, as he broke his foot during his team's initial victory of the season against the Dragons.

Zac Lomax from Parramatta is expected to be sidelined for about six weeks due to a fractured foot, which significantly reduces his likelihood of recovering in time for the first State of Origin match where he was supposed to play for NSW. This development has created an additional challenge for Blues coach Laurie Daley.


 Lomax scored the decisive field goal during the Eels' 23-22 victory in golden point overtime against St George Illawarra on Saturday, despite sustaining an injury earlier in the game.


 On Tuesday evening, Lomax was included in the Eels team set to face Canberra in Darwin on Saturday night.


 However, on Wednesday morning, he was sidelined, dealing a severe setback for newly appointed Eels mentor Jason Ryles as well as Blues strategist Daley, who will select their team for the opening match of the series on May 19.

 was not seen after the Anzac Day match last year because of ongoing problems with his feet.


 Following an outstanding first year with the Collingwood Football Club in 2023, which ended with a long-awaited championship, Mitchell, along with his team, struggled during the defense of their title when injuries began to plague them in the subsequent season.


 The previous player who was part of the Hawks team appeared six times throughout 2024 but was substituted twice due to ankle issues and a persistent case of plantar fasciitis that he had been dealing with.


 Shortly after being sidelined due to a foot injury, Mitchell needed an appendectomy, further extending his absence from the team. Two months later, the Pies announced that the 2018 Brownlow Medal winner had undergone surgery on the plantar fascia of his left foot, keeping him out for an additional eight weeks.


 By August, Collingwood had effectively ended his season.


 "When things go awry, you've got to embrace those feelings," Mitchell stated in his vodcast.

 Before the 2025 season commenced, Mitchell was set on getting back to his peak performance. It seemed he had left behind the persistent foot problem that derailed his previous year’s efforts.


 However, as he explains, despite being 31 years old, he found himself climbing the roller coaster, only to descend again due to a bone stress injury in December soon after resuming running. Subsequently, before Round 2, he faced yet another hurdle with an issue in his right ankle, distinct from his earlier left plantar fascia problem.

 Mitchell has resumed running but follows an adjusted regimen as he gradually increases his workload.


 However, the golfer who uses three clubs has chosen to look at his disappointing injury issues from a optimistic angle, highlighting the chance he’s had to “broaden” his focus onto other aspects of his life.


 Mitchell mentioned that he particularly attempted to broaden his horizons during this rehabilitation period.

Zac Lomax led Parramatta to secure their initial victory of the season despite suffering a fractured foot. This places him in a challenging position as he competes against time to regain fitness for the inaugural State of Origin match.


 Last Saturday, Lomax secured the Eels' initial victory under coach Jason Ryles with a golden-point field goal during their 23-22 triumph against his previous team, St George Illawarra.


 Initially, it was thought that Lomax endured bruising on his foot, as he spent much of the second half favoring his leg.

 However, scans showed later on Tuesday that Lomax sustained a small fracture in his foot. The 25-year-old is expected to be sidelined for the upcoming six weeks, missing out on this weekend’s game against Canberra in Darwin as a result.


 The most probable choice for Ryles to rely on in Lomax's absence seems to be Bailey Simonsson.


 The injury puts Lomax at a significant disadvantage when it comes to returning to the NSW team for State of Origin I in Brisbane on May 28.


 One of the standout performers during the Blues' triumph in 2024 was Lomax, who played in every match as an ex-Dragon winger. He crossed for three tries and successfully kicked eight goals after taking over the role of NSW's placekicker.


 Should Lomax’s recovery stay on track, he will be set to play for the Eels in Round 11 against Newcastle on May 16, leaving him with only one game to make his case for reinstatement.

 Lomax’s injury coincides with New South Wales wing player Brian To'o also being unavailable due to a hamstring problem, anticipated to keep him off the field until round nine.


 Tom Trbojevic, Manly’s fullback who has experience playing as both a winger and center in State of Origin, is scheduled to return in round nine following a medial ligament injury.


 Daley will similarly hope for immediate improvement from Eels playmaker Mitchell Moses once he recovers from his foot problem.


 Moses has been grappling with discomfort in his foot due to a screw placed during an operation he had last year and was a key player for the Blues in the previous year's series.

 The head knock came about half an hour into the contest and will rule him out for another extended period.


 The lock forward was one of the best for the Dragons last year, not missing a game and being at the top of plenty of key forward pack statistical areas for the Red V.


 In what was undoubedly a career-best year for the forward, the 32-year-old, who had played 58 games for the

 over the previous five years, and made his debut with the

 However, Newcastle sealed the win thanks to Sandro Tonali’s goal, placing Howe’s team in fifth position in the Premier League, just one point below fourth-place Manchester City.


 Meanwhile, Isak has netted 20 goals in the Premier League this season, but the Swedish forward is currently dealing with a groin problem as Newcastle prepares for their upcoming Premier League game against Leicester City on Monday night.


 'In this league, you're characterized by your ability to score goals, and your offensive players must embrace that responsibility,' Howe stated following Newcastle’s victory over Brentford.

 'It’s not an easy task. I don’t believe this was one of his best performances, and I’m sure he won’t be shocked hearing my opinion. However, he managed to find himself in the perfect spot when needed. Perhaps he had some fortune with how he finished, yet he has been reliably finding those key positions every time.'


 'I believe that on a different day, he might have scored additional goals, but I don't think he was completely fit. This is why we decided to take him off.'


 We're hoping it isn't anything major, but he just wasn't at full strength in his groin area. His movements were slightly hesitant, which is why we decided to take him out.


 Howe also disclosed that Kieran Tierney, who was replaced near the end of the match against Brentford, is dealing with a groin issue as well.


 "He mentioned it felt similar to a cramping sensation in his groin," Howe stated.


 'We're hoping it's not too serious, but that's the concern for now. We've got some minor issues, and we simply wish they aren't anything grave. Our team roster is quite limited as evident from our substitutes' bench, so we cannot risk getting any additional players injured.'

 Bellamy acknowledged that a concerning head injury was the reason for the absenteeism of key player Will Warbrick, who plays as a winger.


 "He has a slight concussion, which made him feel quite off; that's the primary concern," he stated.


 I'm not entirely certain whether he would have passed the HIA test, but as it turned out, he wasn't feeling well at the end of the day, so we decided to leave him out.


 The sole factor stopping Storm from fielding their best team for the match is the lack of Warbrick, with Grant Anderson set to take his place instead.
