Gentari EV Chargers Reach Up to RM1.80/kWh for DC Charging; New Overstay Fees Hit RM1.50/Minute

As teased a few days ago,
 Gentari
 has revised the pricing for its
 EV chargers
 on their network effective 17th March 2025. According to the Charge Point Operator, the changes are necessary to help them expand, enhance services and ensure fair access for all EV drivers in Malaysia.


 In addition, Gentari has also started charging
 
 overstay fees
 
 to discourage charger hogging.


 Here’s a brief overview of the pricing changes for Gentari’s electric vehicle charging network:

 For AC charging, their pricing for 7kW charge points for most sites has increased from
 
 RM0.90 per kWh to RM1.00 per kWh
 
 . Meanwhile, for AC charge points capable of 11kW to 22kW, the price has increased from
 
 RM1.05 per kWh to RM1.15 per kWh
 
 .

 In an attempt to address charger hogging and to ensure higher availability for more users, Gentari has also expanded its overstay fees to more destination chargers. First
 introduced at Suria KLCC
 , the overstay fees are imposed after a time limit even if you’re not finished charging.


 At selected locations which include Suria KLCC and Paradigm Mall, users will be charged an additional
 
 RM1.00 per minute after 4 hours
 
 . This means if you don’t move your car after 4 hours of plugging in, you will be penalised an additional
 
 RM60 for every hour
 
 !

 Gentari DC Chargers at destination costs 10 sen more per kWh
</h2>

 For DC chargers located at destinations such as shopping malls or locations out of the interstate highways, the pricing has increased slightly from
 
 RM1.50 to RM1.60 per kWh

 Furthermore, certain places have implemented overstay charges which amount to RM1.50 for each extra minute beyond the first hour. Therefore, should you keep your car connected to the DC charger past one hour, you'll face significant penalties.

 Overstay charges typically apply mainly at locations like shopping centers and car lots. Given the charging rates, many users opt for DC fast charging sessions lasting under an hour; therefore, it’s advisable to relocate your vehicle after completing the charge.

 The Gentari DC chargers along interstate highways now have an increased price of up to 20 sen extra per kWh.

 When traveling longer distances, the charging costs will have a greater effect. Gentari’s DC chargers located along or close to major interstates like PLUS, NKVE, and LPT are currently priced at
 
 RM1.70 per kWh
 
 , which is 20 sen higher than its previous rate of RM1.50 per kWh.


 These popular charging points encompass locations like Petronas Bandar Baru Ayer Hitam, Petronas Ulu Bernam Southbound, Petronas NKVE, Petronas Sg Perak Northbound, Petronas Juru Northbound, Petronas Gunung Semanggol Southbound, and Petronas Pedas Linggi Northbound.

 In the meantime, DC chargers equipped withBattery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) currently come at an increased cost.
 
 RM1.80 per kWh
 
 , which is an additional 20 sen higher than its former rate of RM1.60 per kWh. This applies to Behrang Northbound and Southbound Laybys, as well as Senawang Northbound and Southbound Laybys.

 In summary, these DC chargers come with BESS to overcome the constraints of local power supply. The BESS functions like a reserve "tank" storing enough energy to enable rapid charging for up to four vehicles. Nevertheless, should the BESS have a low state of charge, this capability for swift charging will be restricted.


 To enhance broader accessibility for more users, Gentari and JomCharge have recently established
 80% maximum state of charge limit
 for these locations.

 Where can one obtain more affordable charging from Gentari?

 If you rely on public chargers a lot especially for long distance trips, Gentari has an annual membership plan that provides 50% off for EV charging for one full year. The Gentari Go Power Pass costs RM899/year which provides 50% discount on all AC and DC chargers on its network. This means DC Charging along the highway would mostly cost
 
 RM0.85 per kWh
 
 . In the meantime, getting 11kW AC charging at the majority of locations would come with a price tag.
 
 RM0.575 per kWh
 
 , which is similar to charging at home on the highest TNB domestic rate.

 Another benefit is that the annual RM899 subscription fee is also tax deductible when you file your tax returns. However, take note that there’s a “FUP” as the plan has a cumulative discount cap of up to RM2,400 per year. The discount only applies to Gentari branded chargers and it doesn’t include roaming on other chargers such as ChargEV and dedicated JomCharge locations.

 As mentioned earlier, DC chargers along and nearby interstate highways costs slightly more at

 and this also includes the popular Gentari 60kW DC Charger at Petronas Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (JSAS) in Ipoh.
