Aging PSNI Vehicle Fleet Faces Rising Repair Costs, Report Reveals

 Nearly one-fourth of the police cars are over a decade old, and an escalating amount are frequently trapped in maintenance facilities, according to a report by the Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO).


 The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) operates a fleet of 2,700 vehicles that collectively travel 27 million miles annually.


 The organization informed the NIAO about considerable challenges in supplying vehicles for front-line services. It also acknowledged "the possible safety hazards linked to having an aging vehicle fleet."


 From 2021 to 2024, the expense for repair work and upkeep carried out in internal workshops amounted to nearly £11 million.


 The proportion of the fleet in workshops on any given day has risen from 6% to 16%.


 The NIAO said "at its most extreme", almost 500 vehicles were off the road at a given time.


 Four years ago, the PSNI launched a strategy setting out plans for the modernisation of its fleet, with the ambition for the average age of vehicles to be five years.


 But this has not been achievable, with most vehicles exceeding the target.


 Almost £26m has been spent on purchasing new vehicles since 2021.

 PSNI fleet management 'critical'
</h2>

 Commenting on the report, Northern Ireland's Comptroller and Auditor General Dorinnia Carville said effective fleet management is "critical" for the PSNI.


 She added: "Achieving the planned fleet replenishment rates within the current financial environment will be challenging, however, managing an ageing fleet is also costly, with potentially significant operational impacts.


 "This report finds that progress has been made in a number of areas but that there is much more to be achieved, particularly in relation to the introduction of electric vehicles."


 The PSNI had planned to have around 700 electric vehicles by next year.


 As of last October it had 179.


 Electric vehicles are said to be unsuitable for many roles within the PSNI, including an inability to carry the weight of armouring.

 The video snippet was posted jointly on the Instagram pages of both athletes and was uploaded merely a day following their team’s 1-0 loss.

 Richarlison leaped from his £140,000 Corvette to bang the hood of Sarr's Mercedes, then proceeded to shout profanities and flip him off.


 Meanwhile, Sarr filmed the incident from his point of view and was in hysterics. The Senegalese midfielder honked his horn at a junction while stopped behind Richarlison.


 Even though he was frustrated at the time, Richarlison found humor in the situation afterward and shared a lighthearted comment on Instagram.


 He stated: "Nominate a mate known for their lack of patience when stuck in traffic!!!" accompanied by several laughing emojis and then tagging Sarr.

 He probably spent around £140,000 on the V8 engine, capable of reaching speeds exceeding 180mph. This powerplant accelerates from 0 to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds, outpacing even a basic Ferrari Roma.


 In the meantime, Sarr was driving his Mercedes G Wagon, which appears to be either a G400, G450, or G500 based on the look of the inside.


 One of these models would cost the 22-year-old somewhere from £110,000 to £150,000.


 The nearly five-ton G Wagen boasts a maximum velocity of only 130 mph and accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in approximately 6.4 seconds.

 白ボディに赤シートの新「スーパーカブC125」が登場【海外】

 カブハウスのSNSでスーパーカブC125の新色が公開された。詳細は記されていないが、1958年以来の“Sシェイプ”デザインに新たなカラーデュオを提案している。


 ボディカラーは“オーディナリーホワイト(Ordinary White)”で、シートには“アーティザンレッド(Artisan Red)”を配し、クラシックとエレガンスのブレンドとして『クラフトピース(Craftpiese)』が謳われていた。これまでにタイで発表されたカラーは、時間差がある場合こそあれど、多くは日本にも導入されてきている。続報に期待が待ち遠しい。


 ちなみに2024年1月にタイで発表された車体色は、“プレステージクラッシーブルー”。日本未導入だが、エッセンスグレーは日本仕様のパールカデットグレーと同色と思われる(シート色は異なる)。ダブルシート/荷台といった仕様の違いも面白い。

 ホンダ「GB350」系の新型がインドでマイナーチェンジ【海外】
</h2>

 ホンダモーターサイクル＆スクーターインディア(HMSI)は、日本でGB350シリーズとして販売されている、人気の空冷単気筒バイク「H’ness CB350(ハイネスCB350)」および「CB350RS」をマイナーチェンジ。新色を設定し、インド全国で予約受付開始することを発表した。


 ミドル350ccクラスのレトロバイクとしてベトナムやマレーシア、そして日本や欧州にもGB350名義で展開される本シリーズは、インドが発祥の地であることはよく知られているところ。新モデルは、最新の故障診断システム『OBD-2B』を搭載したことが、おもな変更点だ。つまり排出ガス規制まわりの最新レギュレーションに合わせており、その他の性能や基本デザインに変更はない。


 これにともない、カラーラインナップが刷新。特別仕様として展開されていた「H’ness CB350 Legacy Edition」と「CB350RS New Hue Edition」の2種類については廃止された。

 ホンダは、ゲーム『ポケットモンスター スカーレット』に登場する人気キャラクター・コライドンを原寸大で再現した「ホンダコライドン」を公開した。コライドンは主人公を乗せて移動するポケモンで、ホンダはこれを寸法や動きに至るまで忠実に再現し、最終的には子供を乗せて走る未来モビリティとして披露する予定だ。

 ホンダ純正オイルのバイク用ブランドが「Pro Honda」に一新

 ホンダは、二輪車用の純正オイルのラインナップを「Pro Honda(プロホンダ)」ブランドに一新し、4月より順次発売すると発表した。ボトルパッケージは“純正の品格と高品質”をイメージしたカラーに、“ライダーと製品を力づける”ブランドコンセプトを表現したロゴデザインとしている。


 エンジンオイルのラインアップは、環境への配慮とホンダ二輪車のエンジン性能を最大限に引き出す最適なバランスを目指し開発。4サイクルエンジン用オイル5種類と、2サイクルエンジン用オイル3種類が設定されている。また、走りを支える機能部品用フルード、オイルのラインアップとして、ブレーキフルード1種類とクッションオイル2種類が設定された。

 60周年記念タイホンダ「モンキー125」登場
</h2>

 特別仕様車の製作に旺盛なカブハウスは、タイホンダの創立60周年を記念した「New Monkey Chrome Legacy Limited Edition(ニューモンキー クロームレガシー リミテッドエディション)」を初公開。1967年の50ccミニモンキーから、2025年の125ccビッグモンキーまでの伝説を継承するモデルだ。


 ビンテージスタイルのホンダウイングロゴに加え、60周年記念の3Dソフトエンブレム、モンキーZ50にちなんだという「ダブルモンキー」のシンボルなどを施した特別仕様車。ブラックレザー調のシートはステンレス製のリベットで装飾される。各車両には『Monkey Chrome Edition』のロゴが入った個別のシリアルナンバーも付与されるという。


 車両価格は11万7000バーツで、2025年3月24日～4月6日のみの期間限定予約。日本から発注することは難しいが、日本でもこんなのが発売されたら予約枠はすぐに埋まってしまいそうだ。

 ホンダ「CB1000F コンセプト」が世界初公開
</h2>

 ホンダは、第41回大阪モーターサイクルショー2025において、コンセプトモデル「CB1000F コンセプト」を世界初公開した。そのディテールは、2020年に公開された「CB-F コンセプト」よりも現実的な市販車にかなり近い。


 CB1000Fコンセプトのベースになっているのは、発売間もないCB1000ホーネットだ。最終型CBR1000RR(SC77)の4気筒エンジンを低中速寄りに調律し、装備重量211kg(SPは212kg)という軽量な車体に搭載。


 134万4200円～という価格がユーザーに好意的に受け止められているホーネットだけに、最終的に170万円近くまで価格上昇したCB1000Rよりもベースモデルとしてふさわしいはず。なぜなら、最大のライバルになるであろうカワサキ「Z900RS」は150万円切りスタートだからだ。


 また大阪モーターサイクルショー会場では、早くも2台のカスタム車両も公開された。そのうちの一台である、「CB1000Fコンセプト モリワキエンジニアリング」は、あのモリワキによる新生CBのレーシングカスタムコンセプトだった。

 ホンダが「スーパーカブ110ライト コンセプト」を発表
</h2>

 ホンダは、大阪モーターサイクルショーにて「スーパーカブ110ライト コンセプト(Super Cub 110 Lite Concept)」と称したコンセプトモデルをサプライズ発表。見た目はほとんどスーパーカブ110だが、60km/hメーターや『Super Cub Lite』のロゴステッカーといった違いがあった。


 ホンダはすでにスーパーカブ110やディオ110をはじめ、アジアで販売されている110～125ccクラスの車両をベースに走行テストを実施したことも明らかにされていたが、まずはスーパーカブシリーズから発表された形だ。


 ちなみにホンダからは2024年11月25日に3つの商標が出願されていたことが判明済み。いずれも『乗物』カテゴリーに属しており、その名称から新基準原付のモデル名になるのはほぼ間違いないと見られていた。

 ホンダ新「V型3気筒」には過給機なしが存在する?!
</h2>

 大阪・東京モーターサイクルショーでも展示された、EICMA 2024初公開の電動過給機付きV型3気筒エンジンのプロトタイプ。世界中で話題を呼び、2月には英国で「V3R」の商標が出願されたことで車名の候補が明らかになったが、ここへきて北米で2種類の商標が出願されたことがわかった。


 それが、「V3R」と「V3R E-COMPRESSOR」。後者のネーミングは初出で、EICMA 2024で出展された際の「V3 E-COMPRESSOR」ではなく“R”が付いて「V3R E-COMPRESSOR」になっているのがポイントだ。


 2種類の商標が想像させるのは、電動過給機を搭載するバージョンと非搭載NAバージョンが存在するということ。つまり自然吸気(NA)：V3R、電動過給機付き：V3R E-COMPRESSORという棲み分けになると予想できる。

[시사저널e=박성수 기자] 기아는 올해 국내 자동차 시장에서 그 입지를 더욱 강화하고 있습니다. 쏘렌토의 인기가 지속되면서 새로운 모델 효과가 이어지고 있으며, 전기차 'EV'シリーズ 또한 판매 실적이 증가하며 점유율을 향상시키고 있다는 것입니다.

 2일 관련 industry 정보에 의하면 이전 달 소나타의 판매량이 1만155대로 국산 자동차 중 가장 많이 팔린 모델로 집계되었다. 전월 1만 대 이상 판매된 차종은쏠렌토 한 종류뿐이었다. 두 번째로 많은 판매량을 보인 건 기아 카니발(7,710대), 세 번째는 현대 아반떼(6,829대), 네 번째는 기아 스포티지(6,617대), 다섯 번째는 현대 그랜저(6,211대)였다.


 현대자동차의 경쟁 모델인 싼타페(5,591대)와 쏘렌토 사이에서 판매량의 격차는 거의 두 배에 달했다.


 쏘렌토의 새로운 모델은 이미 출시된 후 약 1년 8개월이 흐르고 있지만, 그 인기는 줄어들기보다 더욱 증가하는 추세입니다. 전년도에 쏘렌토는 연간으로 무려 9만4천5백3십8대로 국산차 중에서 가장 많은 판매량을 달성했습니다. 이전에 기아사는 쏘렌토의 새 버전 발표와 함께 내수 시장에서 연간 7만 대 팔겠다는 목표를 제시했었습니다.


 올해 쏘렌토의 국내 판매량은 1월에 7454대로 시작하여, 2월에는 9067대로 증가했으며, 3월には 1만55대로 상승세를 보이고 있습니다.

 여기에는 쏘렌토뿐만 아니라 카니발까지 매월 약 7,000대로 팔리면서 기아와 함께 국내 전체 자동차 시장에서 2위의 위치를 굳건히 유지하고 있으며 ‘원톱 펀치’로서 그 역할을 충실히 수행하고 있습니다.


 
 ◇ EV3의 성공으로 큰 미소를 지었다
 


 기아는 국내 시장에서 디젤이나 가솔린 엔진을 사용하는 쏘렌토와 카니발뿐만 아니라 전동화 모델의 매출 또한 증가하고 있는 경향성을 보이고 있다.


 지난 해 기아는 대중화 목표로 가격 경쟁력 있는 EV3를 내놓았습니다. 그런데 이 차의 시장 반응이 예상을 웃돌며 현재 고성과 실적을 거두고 있습니다.


 작년 달 EV3의 판매량은 3032 대였으며, 이로써 기아 모델 순위에서 6위를 차지했습니다._EV3는 약 3천 만 원의 가격으로 다양한 최신 편의 사양이 장착되어 있고, 500km 이상의 주행 거리가 보장되면서 많은 관심을 받았습니다.

 マツダの人気SUVである「CX-5」。現行型は2017年に発売開始となっていて、そのモデルライフは8年と長いです。


 一般的な国産車のモデルチェンジサイクルを考えると、そろそろフルモデルチェンジの足音が聞こえてきそうですが、次期CX-5はどのようなクルマになるのでしょう。

新型「CX-5」まもなく登場？

 次期CX-5の動向に注目が集まるなか、先日マツダは「ライトアセット戦略」を公表しました。

 この公表では今後のマツダの開発や生産、展開していく商品に関する説明が多くあったのですが、そのなかで明確に次期CX-5に関する説明もあったのです。


 具体的には「次期CX-5は2027年中に導入」と説明されています。


 これはマツダが現在開発している新エンジン「SKYACTIV-Z」に関する説明で触れられており、「SKYACTIV-Z」はマツダ独自のハイブリッドシステムと組み合わせて2027年中に次期CX-5から導入するそうです。


 SKYACTIV-Zは欧州の「Euro 7（ユーロセブン）」、アメリカの「LEV 4」や「Tier 4（ティアフォー）」などの厳しいエミッション規制に適合する電動化時代に基軸となるエンジンとされています。


 「究極の燃焼」に近づく燃焼技術だといい、高い燃費性能と走行性能の両立を図るエンジンで、2.5リッターの直列4気筒エンジンが予定されています。


 この新エンジンは電動化時代の基軸になるという触れ込みもありましたが、独自のハイブリッドシステムと組み合わせるとアナウンスされているため、ハイブリッドシステムとの組み合わせを最初から考えたエンジンとなるのではないかと思われます。


 また、気になるポイントと言えば価格です。CX-5は装備とサイズ感、質感の割に手に届きやすい価格であったことも人気の理由でした。


 しかし、マツダの先進的な燃焼技術を搭載した「SKYACTIV-X」が高価であったことを考えると、新しいSKYACTIV-Zも高価になるのではないかという心配の声があるでしょう。


 いっぽうSKYACTIV-Zについてマツダは、「アフォーダブル（手頃）な価格帯で実現する」と説明しました。次期CX-5が価格帯を大きく変えずに登場することに期待感が持てる説明です。


 このような背景から次期CX-5の登場は2027年かと思いたいところですが、既に海外などでは次期CX-5と目されるテストカーが早々に目撃されています。


 これを考えると、CX-5のフルモデルチェンジ自体は早ければ2025年中に明らかになり、ひとまずモデルチェンジが実施されるのかもしれません。


 そのあとに、SKYACTIV-Zは追加モデルとして2027年に採用されるといった形も考えられます。


 初代CX-5は「スカイアクティブテクノロジー」と「魂動デザイン」という、現在のマツダのブランドイメージを牽引する技術・デザインが全面に投入された初のモデルでした。


 そのような歴史を振り返ると、次期CX-5はSKYACTIV-Zを始め、マツダの次世代を牽引するイメージを全て投入した、シンボル的なモデルになるのではないでしょうか。


 次の時代のマツダも、やはり新たなCX-5から始まっていく…そんなモデルになるかと思われます。


 つまり次期CX-5に注目しておけば、マツダの次世代モデルの進化が分かる。そう思わせる新技術や装備、デザインが採用されるのではないかと思われます。

 プレリュードは1978年に初代モデルが登場し、2001年まで5代にわたり生産されたスペシャリティクーペです。初代は日本車初の電動サンルーフを標準装備し、独自の個性で注目を集めました。2代目はリトラクタブルヘッドライトと流麗なスタイルで人気を博し、3代目では世界初の4輪操舵システム（4WS）を導入。技術革新を続ける存在として支持されてきました。

 2001年の生産終了以降はラインナップから姿を消していましたが、2023年の「ジャパンモビリティショー（JMS）」で新型コンセプトモデルが発表され、市販化に向けて開発が進められていることが明かされました。


 2025年1月の「東京オートサロン」では、同年の秋より発売予定であることが明らかとなり、より量産に近いプロトタイプが展示され話題となりました。


 新型プレリュードは、ホンダの電動化技術とスポーツ性能を融合させた次世代ハイブリッドスポーツクーペとして開発されています。


 エクステリアは現代的な洗練さとスポーツクーペらしい低重心のシルエットが融合したデザインが特徴です。フロントはシャープなLEDヘッドライトとワイドなグリルで精悍な印象を与え、サイドは長いボンネットと滑らかに流れるルーフラインがエレガントさを演出しています。リアには水平基調のテールランプと、わずかに跳ね上がったリップ形状のトランクスポイラーが備わり、クーペらしい引き締まったスタンスを際立たせています。


 パワートレインには、「シビック」や「ZR-V」に採用されている2.0リッター直噴エンジン＋2モーターによるシリーズパラレルハイブリッドシステム「e：HEV」をベースにした次世代e：HEVシステムが搭載される見込みです。出力や性能数値は未公表ですが、スポーツ走行を意識したチューニングが期待されています。


 さらに、ホンダが新たに開発した制御技術「Honda S＋ Shift」が初搭載されます。これはモーター駆動ながらも変速感を演出する技術で、ドライバーの操作に応じた回転数制御やアクティブサウンドによって、感覚的な一体感を高めています。今後、他のe：HEVモデルにも展開予定とされています。


 足回りには、現行「シビック タイプR」のプラットフォームをベースに専用チューニングを施したシャシーを採用。フロントにはデュアルアクシスストラット、リアにはマルチリンク式サスペンションを装備し、ZF製の電子制御可変ダンパーによって走行モードに応じた減衰力調整が可能です。タイヤは235／40R19サイズで、スポーツ走行に十分な性能を確保しています。

 ――1996年に発売された5代目から四半世紀以上を経て、Hondaのラインアップに「PRELUDE」の名が復活します。このモデルにはどのような意味が込められているのでしょうか？


 山上：PRELUDEは、クラシック音楽の「前奏曲」を意味し、新たな始まりを象徴します。新型PRELUDEも、新時代に先駆けるスポーツカーとして、走る楽しさを再定義したいと考えています。


 ――PRELUDEの復活が決まったとき、どのようなモデルにしようと考えましたか？


 山上：実は、最初からPRELUDEを復活させようと決めていたわけではありません。時代に合う新しいスポーツモデルを模索する中で、この名前が自然とフィットしたのです。ですから、過去の復刻ではなく、現代の技術や価値観に合ったクルマを目指しました。


 ――新たな時代のPRELUDEとして、求めた価値はどんなものだったのでしょうか？


 山上：反響はどうしてもヘリテージに寄りがちですが、先入観にとらわれないでほしいと思っています。過去の良さを学びながら、現代にふさわしく進化させることが重要です。流行を取り入れつつ、流されすぎないこと。そのバランスが今の時代には必要だと考えました。


 PRELUDEは時代ごとに姿を変えながらも、「スポーツ性」と「スペシャリティー」は常に共通しており、最先端技術を取り入れる精神も受け継いできました。新型でもその姿勢を大切にしています。


 ――1980～90年代を知る人は、PRELUDEと言えば“デートに出かけるクルマ”という印象もあるかもしれません


 山上：今と昔でデートの形は変わっても、「誰かと特別な時間を過ごす」という本質は変わりません。PRELUDEは、そんな特別な時間を楽しめるクルマでありたい。


 スポーツカーと聞くとF1や戦闘機のような鋭さを想像しますが、今回はグライダーのように、気持ちよく空を滑るような感覚を目指しました。

 The AT4 gains an additional two inches of ground clearance, bringing its standard ride height up to 11 inches. Additionally, it features rear-axle steering, known as Crab Walk, along with a peak towing capability of 12,300 pounds—approximately 2,000 pounds greater than that of the Denali.
 
 
 The Elevation has less emphasis on off-roading and more focus on roads, yet it appears well-equipped. Although it won’t include rear-axle steering or Crab Walk (a feature few use), it will come with impressive amenities such as a sizable 16.8-inch touch screen and an electric front trunk.

 More than 200 individual dealerships are holding onto a total of $10 million CAD ($7 million USD). These dealers provided loans directly to their clients with the expectation of being compensated through the iZEV program. However, when the program was halted, they could not process 2,295 rebate claims, leading some dealers to contemplate layoffs due to the lack of anticipated funding.
 
 
 Freeland indicates that these dealers will eventually receive full compensation.

 This isn’t Tesla’s first time navigating loosely defined incentive schemes. Do you recall their Canada-exclusive compliance vehicle? Perhaps not. Let’s briefly revisit the start of the iZEV initiative together.
 
 
 To be eligible for the iZEV program in 2019, vehicles were required to adhere to numerous criteria. A key requirement involved the initial manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). For instance, the Tesla Model 3, which has less than six seats, had to have an entry-level price under $45,000 CAD. However, before joining the iZEV initiative, Tesla listed the Model 3 SR+ at $52,990 CAD in Canada.
 
 
 This is where things get interesting.
 
 
 Tesla subsequently introduced its compliant version. Priced at an even $44,999 CAD—one dollar under the threshold—purchasers of the entry-level Model 3 gained ownership of a vehicle capable of traveling a total of 94 miles per charge. It’s worth noting that Musk had earlier stated that he considered 250 miles of range to be "

 unacceptably low
 </a>
 " for its vehicles.
 
 
 On the positive side, buyers of SR+ models also qualified for the iZEV incentive. However, the ultimate outcome was that Canadian taxpayers inadvertently provided subsidies totaling $115 million CAD to Tesla purchasers, solely due to the existence of this regulatory vehicle.

 Canada seized this chance not only to revoke Tesla’s subsidies but also took drastic measures nationwide to set a stern precedent for the brand. This has left Tesla realizing that breaking regulations comes with significant repercussions, particularly under global scrutiny where the credibility of its leadership appears to erode faster than it can be regained.

 In August 2018, Musk

 On Twitter — now known as X — he stated that he planned to take Tesla private.
 
 
 "I'm thinking about making Tesla private at $420 per share. The funding is all set," Musk stated.
 
 
 In a post on the company’s blog, Musk mentioned that he had connected with officials from Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, known as the Public Investment Fund. He stated that these discussions began in early 2017 following his announcement of considering taking Tesla private.
 
 
 The transaction failed to materialize as the PIF declined to allocate any funds.
 
 
 Musk and Tesla faced legal action from Tesla shareholders who claimed that Musk’s hasty declaration led to financial losses for them. In court, Musk accused the PIF of being responsible for "
 backpedaling
 " on their plans.
 
 
 In 2018, the PIF made an announcement about
 $1 billion investment
 to Tesla’s competitor, Lucid Motors.
 
 
 The move by Saudi Arabia to welcome Tesla arrives as a crucial moment for the electric vehicle company, following a significant drop of more than 40% in its share price since reaching peak levels in mid-December.
