 Un descubrimiento sorprendente llamó en las últimas semanas la atención de los aficionados al automóvil: una colección de coches nuevos, olvidada en una concesionaria brasileña cerrada hace más de 20 años.
 
 
 El comercio, llamado Concessionária Comercial Gaúcha, se encontraba en la localidad de Estrela, Río Grande do Sul, y era concesionario de la marca Volkswagen.
 
 
 El establecimiento perteneció a Otmar Essig, quien falleció en 2022. El empresario había cerrado la concesionaria en 2001, y desde entonces mantuvo clausurado el local con varios coches dentro, incluyendo autos de los años 80 y 90 que nunca circularon, además de muebles y piezas de la época. Durante años, el anciano frecuentó el lugar, “marcando tarjeta ”, como si la tienda todavía estuviera en funcionamiento. Después de 2017, por problemas de salud, abandonó ese hábito.
 
 
 Tras la muerte de Otmar Essig, su familia decidió vender la colección discretamente. La negociación se llevó a cabo sin anuncios públicos, según información del empresario Anderson Dick, CEO de FuelTech, quien intermedió la venta. El comprador fue Claude Senhoreti, un brasileño que vive en Estados Unidos y mantiene una colección de superdeportivos y vehículos históricos.
 
 
 Luego de que la familia tramitara la venta legal de los vehículos después del fallecimiento de Otmar, empezaron a explorar opciones fuera del mercado convencional y sin hacer publicidad. Fue un agente quien me contactó finalmente con Claude Senhoreti. 'Este proceso se extendió durante casi cinco meses', comenta Dick según sus declaraciones recopiladas.

 Dentro de las opciones se encuentran algunos verdaderos tesoros, como dos Escarajitos Itamar del año 1996 que ni siquiera han salido de su habitación blindada y están intactos, protegidos completamente de la luz solar.
 
 
 La empresa concessionaria gauchesa también mantuvo un Volkswagen Fusca 1600 Série Especial del año 1986, sin recorrer ningún kilómetro y con los protectores de fábrica aún sobre los asientos.
 
 
 Un vehículo sobresaliente es un Volkswagen Quantum 2.0 MI Evidence del año 1996, en tono rojo real perlado, que jamás se ha usado y fue un obsequio del propietario de una tienda para su cónyuge.
 
 
 Además de ellos, hay un Volkswagen SP2 del año 1975, con 8.150 kilómetros recorridos, y en excelente estado, que era el coche usado por Essig en sus últimos tiempos de actividad. Un cuarto escarabajo, también usado, pero en buen estado, también fue encontrado en el acervo.
 
 
 La colección se completa con una séptima unidad: una Volkswagen Kombi.
 
 
 Los vehículos fueron transportados a Porto Alegre, donde serán sometidos a inspección antes de ser enviados a Estados Unidos. Anderson Dick y el nuevo propietario todavía están considerando si limpiar los vehículos o mantenerlos como están, dado que algunos aún conservan la cera original de fábrica.
 
 
 “Los hicimos funcionar a todos excepto al Escarabajo de 1986, que tiene un problema de corrosión en el bloque debido al etanol depositado en el aceite. Lo estamos recuperando. Los demás solo necesitaban un cambio de aceite, una limpieza de las líneas de combustible y una batería nueva”, dice Anderson Dick.

 DC fast charging at up to 190 kilowatts is enough for a 15 to 80% charging time of under 25 minutes, and its onboard charger includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality. Between its

The BMW claims a zero to sixty miles-per-hour acceleration under 3.4 seconds, narrowly besting the Dodge’s official figure by a tenth of a second; however, they're anticipated to deliver virtually matching quarter-mile runs clocking in roughly around 11.5 seconds each.
 
 
 In actual races between the two vehicles, several important observations emerge. Across the three attempts, the BMW consistently emerged as the victor, albeit by narrow margins.

 파워트레인 구성은 기존 모델과 동일하게 2.5 가솔린, 3.5 가솔린, 3.5 LPG, 1.6 하이브리드가 유지될 것으로 보이며, 2세대 하이브리드 시스템이 일부 트림에 조기 적용될 가능성도 배제할 수 없다.

 K8의 대표적인 모델로는 분명히 하이브리드 버전을 선택할 수 있다. 1.6 터보 하이브리드 모델에는 엔진 출력인 180마력을 비롯하여 전동기 출력도 47.7kW를 추가하며, 이 모델의 복합 연비는 16.1에서 18.1km/ℓ 사이까지 도달합니다.


 만약 다음 세대 그랜저에 성능이 향상된 2세대 하이브리드 시스템이 장착되지 않는다면, 경쟁력을 유지하는 것이 상당히 어려워질 수 있다.

올해 후반기에 국내 수입 자동차 시장은 내연 기관 및 하이브리드 차량을 중심으로 진행될 것이라는 전망이다.

 6일 한국수입자동차협회(KAIDA)의 자료에 따르면 올해 1분기(1~3월) 동안 국내에서 등록된 신규 수입 차량은 총 6만 657대로 집계되었다. 이는 작년 같은 기간인 1분기에 등록된 5만 4583대보다 11.1% 늘어난 것이다.


 올해 수입차 브랜드들은 전기차보다는 내연기관 차나 하이브리드 차로 국내 시장을 공략할 것으로 보인다. 최근 출시된 주요 수입차 브랜드들의 신차들은 전기차에 집중한 경향이 있다. 전기차 수요가 정체되는 현상이 길어짐에 따라 내연기관 차나 하이브리드 차의 선택지를 넓히려는 것으로 추정된다.


 아우디코리아는 2017년 이후 약 7년 만에 신규 등록 대수가 9304대로 1만 대 아래로 떨어졌습니다. 회사 측은 국내 시장에서 판매량을 늘리는 노력을 다질 것이며, 이를 위해 작월 29일부터 '더 뉴 A5'의 사전 주문 접수를 시작했습니다.  중국 경제관찰보에 따르면 샤오미는 지난 4일 자체 전기차 모델인 SU7의 신차 주문 사이트의 문구를 ‘스마트 드라이빙(智駕)’에서 ‘어시스트 드라이빙(輔助駕駛·보조주행)’으로 변경했다.

 최근 샤오미 전기차 사고와 연관된 해석들이 제시되고 있다. 작년 3월 29일, 샤오미 SU7 승용차 한 대가 안후이성의 고속도로에서 심각한 사고를 내게 되었습니다. 이 차량은 중앙 분리대의 췌콘크리트 보호벽과 부딪힌 후 불길에 휩싸여 당시 차안에 있던 세 명의 여성 학생들을 포함해 모든 사람들이 목숨을 잃는 비극적인 결과를 초래했습니다. 회사측에 따르면 그 차량은 이미 오랫동안 NOA(자율주행 시스템인 'Navigation on Autopilot') 모드로 운 hành하고 있었다고 합니다. 요컨데, 운전자에게서 경계심이 느슨했던 것이 이번 사태의 원인이 될 수 있다는 이야기입니다. 이런 상황으로 인하여 샤오킹의 주식 가치에도 크게 영향을 미치게 됐습니다.

 중국 당국 역시 유사한 사건이 증가함에 따라 자율주행 기능에 대해 더욱 엄격히 규제 중이다. 전월 16일 공업정보화부는 차량 제조사들이 자체 주행 시스템의 한계 및 안전 조치를 명시적으로 설명해야 한다며 부풀리거나 잘못된 광고를 삼가는 것이 필요하다고 발표했다. 또한 '자율주행', '자동주행', '스마트 드라이빙' 그리고 '첨단 지능형 주행' 등의 표현은 판촉 활동에서 금지한다고 언급하였다.


 중국 현지 매체들에 따르면 이번 노동절 연휴 기간에도 리샹, 웨이라이, 샤오펑 등 중국의 인기 전기차 업체들이 자율주행 관련 홍보를 자제했다고 한다. 대다수 브랜드의 마케팅 담당자는 자율주행 기능을 사용할 경우 운전자가 장시간 핸들에서 손을 떼면 안 된다는 점을 명확하게 지적하면서 운전자가 주의를 집중해야 하고, 시스템이 모든 것을 처리할 수 있는 능력이 없다는 점을 명확히 설명했다. 화웨이 산하의 자동차 브랜드 훙멍즈싱 역시 매장 팸플릿에서 ‘스마트 드라이빙’ 기능이 ‘운전자의 조작을 대체할 수 없다’고 명시했다. 또 매장마다 자율주행 기능과 관련해서는 고객이 질문할 때에만 설명하도록 지침을 변경했다.

 불투명한 외부 환경과 소비자 신뢰 저조로 인해 어렵게 느껴지는 시장 상황에서, 금년 후반기에 국내 수입 자동차 산업에서는 기존 가솔린 및 디젤 차량 그리고 혼합 동력 차량 간의 경쟁이 벌어질 전망이다.


 6일 한국수입자동차협회(KAIDA)의 집계 자료에 의하면, 올해 1분기(1월～3월) 동안 국내에서 등록된 신규 수입 차량은 모두 합쳐서 6만657대로 나타났습니다. 이는 2023년 같은 기간인 6만1684대와 비교했을 때 다소 감소하였으나, 전년도 1분기에 해당하는 5만4583대 대비로 보면 약 11.1% 늘어난 것입니다.


 달러당 1500원이던 원화값이 최근 1400원 초반대로 강세를 보이면서 수입차업체 입장에서 과거에 비해 우호적인 환경을 기대할 수 있게 되었고, 수입차 시장에서의 신차 효과가 상대적으로 시장에 주는 영향이 큰 만큼 수입차 브랜드들은 올해 한국 시장 공략을 위한 신차 출시를 준비하고 있다.


 특히 주요 수입 차량 브랜드들로부터 공개 예정인 새로운 모델들을 살펴보면, 순수 전기차(HBV) 외에도 내연기관 자동차와 하이브리드 동력계통의 중요한 신모델들이 선봬질 것 같습니다. 요즘에는 대부분의 새 모델들이 전기에 초점을 맞추고 있지만, 이는 전기차 생산 지연과 같은 여러 가지 이유 때문에 내연기관이나 하이브리드 카들의 다양성을 확장하려는 움직임일 수도 있습니다.


 작년 수입차 시장에서 선두 위치를 유지했던 BMW 코리아는 금년 첫 분기 동안 1만 8천612대를 팔며 30.7%의 점유률로 정상을 계속해서 지키고 있습니다. 다음은 BMW가 오는 세 번째 분기를 맞이하여 새롭게 내놓을 계획입니다:BMW의 C세그먼트(준중소형) 해치백인 1시리스의 업데이트 버전인 BMW 120과 고성능 버전인 M135 xDrive의 네 번째 세대로 구성됩니다. 이러한 새로운 모델들은 작년 여름 외부시장에서는 먼저 소개되었습니다.

 올해 1분기 메르세데스-벤츠코리아는 1만5215대를 판매하며 판매량과 점유율(25.1%) 두번째 자리를 차지했다. 지난해 2014년 이후 처음으로 BMW코리아에 수입차 업체 매출 1위 자리를 내준 메르세데스-벤츠코리아도 시장 영향력 확대를 위한 내연차 3종을 준비하고 있다.


 벤츠코리아는 고성능 AMG 브랜드의 2도어 쿠페 메르세데스-AMG GT 2세대 완경변경모델을 이번달 출시한다. 이 차는 지난 4월 킨텍스에서 개최된 서울모빌리티쇼에서 공개된 바 있다. 이외에도 하반기에는 또 다른 고성능 브랜드 ‘메르세데스-AMG CLE 쿠페’와 최고급 브랜드 마이바흐의 ‘메르세데스-마이바흐 SL’도 국내에 출시한다. 마이바흐 SL은 지난해 공개되었을 때 강렬한 붉은 외관을 자랑하는 스포티한 모습으로 소비자들의 관심을 모았다.

 The price of a pre-owned Subaru Outback 2017 has decreased to KSh 2.5 million from KSh 3 million, whereas the cost of a Nissan Note has fallen from KSh 1 million to KSh 850,000.


 Similar models such as the Mercedes-Benz C200 have seen their prices fall from KSh 3.5 million down to KSh 3 million, indicating a reduction of KSh 500,000.

 Now, a new report from

 revealed that Ford has applied for a
 new trademark with the USPTO
 (United States Patent and Trademark Office) for the name "Mach 4." The application was filed on February 25. According to the USPTO site, the trademark covers "Motor vehicles, namely gasoline and electric automobiles, pickup trucks, sport-utility vehicles, and their structural parts."

 Rumors that Ford will build a Mustang sedan have been around for years, even going as far back as the Mustang's first generation, according to Ford Authority. Fast forward to 2018, and Ford reportedly showed a concept model to dealers before the project was shelved. The outlet also reported that last May, Ford CEO Jim Farley said he "believes" the automaker could build a four-door Mustang as long as it has "all the performance and attitude of the original."


 There's also the possibility that this Mach 4 trademark somehow relates to the standalone Raptor supercar Ford has teased in the past. Nothing is known about that particular project, but in January, Farley told

 , "We’re in the middle of creating something, so we don’t have all the answers yet, but the question is, should Ford make an off-road supercar? Not a version of a car, a standalone supercar."

 Given that Ford has already angered the feistiest of Mustang purists with the electric Mustang Mach-E, there's a real possibility that the automaker could introduce a sedan. Then again, none of the previous Mustang sedan rumors have amounted to anything, so we'll have to wait and see if this trademark also turns into a nothingburger.

 지역별로는 도매 기준 국내에서 5만1005대(7.4% ↑), 해외에서 22만3113대(2.2% ↑)를 판매했다. 특수차량 판매는 319대로 집계됐다.


 모델별 판매량을 보면 스포티지가 4만7,737대로 전세계적으로 가장 많은 수요를 보였고, 그 다음으로 셀토스가 2만5,543대, 그리고 쏘렌토가 2만3,855대로 뒤따랐다.


 세부적으로 국내 시장에서는 쏘렌토(8796대)가 최다 판매 모델이었으며, 레이(4262대), K5(3581대), K8(2566대) 등 승용차가 총 1만2415대가 판매됐다.


 레저용차량(RV)은 쏘렌토를 비롯해 카니발(7592대), 스포티지(6703대), 셀토스(5101대), EV3(3057대) 등 총 3만5152대를 기록했다. 상용차는 봉고Ⅲ(3303대)를 포함해 총 3438대가 판매됐다.


 해외 시장에서는 스포티지가 4만1034대로 해외 최다 판매 모델에 올랐고, 셀토스(2만442대), K3(K4 포함, 1만6666대) 등이 뒤를 이었다.


 특수차량은 국속에서는 80대로의 판매실적을 보였으며, 해외에서는 239대가 팔렸다.


 기아의 대표는 "우리는 국내 및 국제 시장에서 계속해서 매출이 증가하는 추세에 있고, 향후에도 EV4와 타스만과 같은 뛰어난 새 차종들을 통해 이러한 기조를 유지할 계획이다"라고 밝혔다.

 He enjoys the driving experience of his all-wheel-drive Ioniq 5, particularly appreciating its fast charging capabilities.
 10%-80% within less than 20 minutes
 Vargas mentions that he rarely uses a charger for more than 20 minutes. The vehicle packs ample power, and even after logging 71,900 miles with consistent usage, the Ioniq 5 hasn’t experienced significant problems. The only issue encountered was with the power charge door, which required repair at an authorized dealership.

 Charging doors for power are a ridiculous concept.
 That needs to be eliminated. I have never encountered a gasoline vehicle equipped with a fuel door flap, and attempting to create one would be foolish. Adding a potential point of failure to an essential part without significant advantage is illogical, particularly since powered doors are less efficient to operate compared to traditional flaps.

 Still, the Ioniq 5 is proving to be a reliable car, even if Vargas skipped the 40,000 battery coolant flush that Hyundai recommends. That doesn't mean it's all good news, though.
 
 
 Vargas, like many other people, hates Hyundai's software suite. The smartphone app is bad and buggy, the infotainment system is middling and the mapping system is bad. His car doesn't get major over-the-air updates, either, so it's not getting better over time the way many EVs are. It used to get map updates, but even those didn't include all of the new chargers. That's annoying because the Ioniq 5 will only precondition the battery if you set a fast charger as your destination.
 
 
 He also called out another pain point: If you're expecting clear and consistent communication from the automaker itself, Hyundai doesn't really deliver.
 
 
 Although his vehicle lacked the feared
 Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) problem
 The company failed to effectively communicate with customers throughout that ordeal, and its dealers have earned a reputation for unreliability. According to Vargas, some dealers were apparently unaware of how to replace the Ioniq 5’s coolant, whereas others imposed exorbitant charges.
 
 
 This serves as a solid overview of owning an electric vehicle from a manufacturer that’s still refining both its approach to making competitive EVs and developing software-defined vehicles. While Hyundai excels at one aspect of this formula, it hasn’t quite mastered the other yet. We look forward to the day they achieve full proficiency since their EVs generally excel across many areas. However, compared directly with consumer-focused competitors such as Tesla and Rivian, Hyundai and Kia may fall short primarily due to issues related to dealership experiences.
 
 
 Despite these concerns, the vehicle’s excellence and dependability make them easy to overlook. In my opinion, it remains among the top electric cars I suggest, and it’s certainly worthwhile to experience through a test drive.

International Approval for Updated Taxes on Plug-In Hybrid EVs

The Thai cabinet has endorsed revisions in taxation aimed at promoting the purchase of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), with these measures set to take effect starting January 1st of the upcoming year.
 
 
 The regulation amends the tax provisions for PHEVs, introducing the following changes:
 
 
 setting up an independent tax rate for PHEVs, different from that of hybrid electric vehicles;
 
 
 basing the tax calculation criteria solely on electric-powered driving range per charge; and
 
 
 eliminating fuel tank size as a factor in determining PHEV tax rates.
 
 
 The third factor has hindered Thailand's potential to become a manufacturing hub as requirements for fuel tanks are incompatible with international standards, Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul said after Tuesday's cabinet meeting.
 
 
 The rule also adds unnecessary restrictions for consumers and discourages the adoption of PHEVs, he said.
 
 
 PHEV passenger cars or vehicles with seating capacity of 10 or less, and an electric-powered driving range of 80 kilometres or more per charge, are taxed at 5%.
 
 
 For plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) with a range of under 80 kilometers per charge, the tax rate is set at 10%.
 
 
 The updated guidelines are consistent with international benchmarks and aim to support Thailand’s position as a production hub for standardized PHEVs that cater to both local and overseas market demands, according to Mr Paopoom.
 
 
 It is anticipated that this regulation will boost investments in Thailand’s automobile industry, improve competitive edge amid the shift towards advanced vehicle technologies, and cater to the growing demand for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in both city settings and between towns, as mentioned by him.
 
 
 Reduced excise taxes will apply to plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) that have a greater electric range.
 
 
 "This is an excellent step since consumers are interested in purchasing electric vehicles that offer extensive ranges," stated Surapong Paisitpatanapong, who serves as both the vice-chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries and the spokesperson for its Automotive Industry Club.
 
 
 He mentioned that orders for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) surged at the recent Bangkok International Motor Show. The sales momentum kept increasing even after the event concluded on April 6th.
 
 
 This is a positive development during a time when domestic car sales have been slow because individuals are finding it hard to obtain auto financing.

 Cold-weather testing is an
 important thing for EVs
 , since battery-powered cars traditionally haven't done well when the temperatures drop. While new chemistries and more advanced active thermal management systems have helped a lot, anyone who's been doing the EV thing for a while will probably find themselves thinking twice before heading out for a long drive on a cold day.
 
 
 My preferred chilly drives lead all the way up to Vermont. Although I reside just north of the border in Upstate New York, once I enter the Green Mountain state, things feel somewhat distinct and more pleasant.
 
 
 This holds particularly true during the colder season. Whenever feasible, I attempt to take one-day excursions to southern Vermont to enjoy early mornings skiing at Mount Snow ski area. The journey spans about 75 miles and usually consumes around 90 minutes provided I do not encounter numerous school buses or snowplows en route, offering an ideal blend of different road conditions. You'll find stretches of highways mixed with higher speed local routes, alongside plenty of twisty mountain roads.
 
 
 In other words, this is a great track for putting various types of vehicles through their paces, including our long-term 2024 model.

 Pre-Charged
 </h2>
 
 I had wished to take the iX out for a day of skiing earlier this winter, but as I mentioned
 in the last update,
 A sudden inability to charge resulted in insufficient battery power for my needs. To follow up on this issue: The iX occasionally reverts to time slot mode upon connection, as previously mentioned. However, following the publication of our latest update, a BMW representative reached out to us and is currently investigating the matter.
 
 
 For added safety, the evening before, I double-checked that the iX was both connected and genuinely charging. When I packed my equipment the next day, it showed a reassuring 90%, just as I had hoped.

 This alone demonstrates my trust in the iX; I was embarking on a long journey.

 I lowered the passenger seat and positioned my snowboard on it with the bindings facing up, securing it with the seat belt to keep it steady. Throughout our journey, even with all the curves and bends, the board remained perfectly still.
 
 
 I began my journey with some highway driving directly towards the rising sun. I own several pairs of sunglasses which seem to be problematic for the Driver Monitoring Camera included in the Driving Assistance Pro package. On this particular morning, I didn’t wear them at all; however, the system struggled to detect my eyes because of additional reflections caused by the early sunlight’s glare.
 
 
 I found myself either squinting due to the assistive system being active or having to drive manually throughout the journey, keeping my hands firmly on the steering wheel.

 The Drive Over
 </h2>
 
 That was the sole small hiccup during my journey. The iX proved to be both comfortable and silent as I sat among morning commuters queuing uphill in Troy, NY. When the road cleared, the BMW’s powerful performance and responsive throttle made swift overtakes on two-lane highways effortless.
 
 
 I arrived well ahead of when the ski lift operations were set to begin, managing everything efficiently even though we used the air conditioning and enjoyed ourselves during the trip. Once more, the estimated range proved accurate. As soon as I exited the garage, my vehicle stated that I would reach Mount Snow with 55% battery left. Sure enough, after driving for about 75 miles, the gauge still showed 55%. This held true even considering the outside temperature was below 30°F.
 
 
 The chilly temperatures resulted in frosty trail conditions early in the morning. However, the milder weather in the preceding weeks led to just a few trails being accessible at Mount Snow. Despite this, I enjoyed a fantastic morning session, which unfortunately turned out to be my second and last outing of the season. My busy travel itinerary along with bringing home a new puppy have made it difficult for me to hit the slopes regularly.

 As it was time to consider returning, during my final ascent in the elevator, I opened the My BMW app and instructed the vehicle to begin preconditioning.
 We first discovered that remote requests such as controlling the temperature were quite inconsistent.
 The vehicle has recently become much more dependable when reacting to commands issued through the application.
 
 
 I had parked just beneath the start of the trail, allowing me to exit my vehicle and immediately enter a cozy cabin with welcoming warmth. The rear seats of the iX offered ample space for me to remove my boots and equipment without needing to twist uncomfortably.

 Returning Home
 </h2>
 
 With my board secured at the rear and multiple insulated layers spread throughout the cabin, I set off downhill towards home. Since I had utilized just 35% of the battery charge on the ascent and the vehicle estimated about 26% would remain upon arrival, I pressed the accelerator more freely during the descent.
 
 
 The roads were well-maintained, free from ice and snow, yet remained somewhat grimy at certain points. The residue from winter salts and sands hadn’t completely been rinsed away. Nonetheless, the iX handles remarkably well considering its size, and the Nokian Remedy WRG5 tires continue to provide excellent traction under various circumstances.
 
 
 Using the built-in navigation system, I opted for a somewhat shorter path on my return journey, reducing the overall distance by approximately five miles. Coupled with marginally higher temperatures above 34 degrees and increased descent sections of the road, this resulted in only a 32% fuel consumption rate for the trip back.

 The positive aspect of this situation is clear. However, there was a minor letdown regarding the BMW’s range estimation, which proved inaccurate. When I arrived back home, the car indicated that 26 percent battery life remained, whereas I actually had 32 percent left.
 
 
 That's one of the largest inaccuracies in distance estimation I've observed with iDrive’s built-in navigation system, which really says something. Usually, missing by just six percent would be seen as quite good for most vehicles. Moreover, if my electric vehicle is going to have an error margin, I prefer it to underestimate rather than overestimate.
 
 
 The nearly 150-mile round trip, mostly in sub- or near-freezing temperatures, used 58 percent of the battery, a consumption of 2.8 mi/kWh, giving me an extremely comfortable window. There's still not much of a charging network in Vermont, but I didn't even think twice about it.
 
 
 However, the snow has completely melted away now, making it perfect for milder adventures. Additionally, we'll delve deeper into how the iX performs as a dog-carrying vehicle in our upcoming discussion.

국내 자동차·부품 업계는 미국의 자동차 관세 완화 조치로 최악의 경우는 면했다며 일단 안도하는 분위기다. 하지만 고율의 관세가 지속되고 완화 조치도 2년간 한시적이라는 점에서 부담은 여전한 상황이다. 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 이번에는 완화 조치를 택했지만, 미국 내 공급망 강화를 위해 또 다른 카드를 꺼내 들 수 있다는 불안도 남아 있다.


 29일(현지시간) 트럼프 대통령이 서명한 포고문 내용을 살펴보면 외국에서 수입한 부품으로 미국에서 자동차를 만드는 기업들의 부품 관세 부담을 2년간 한시적으로 줄이기로 했다. 이번 조치는 미국 업체뿐만 아니라 외국 업체도 사용할 수 있어, 미국에서 생산 공장을 가동하는 현대자동차와 기아도 대상 기업이 될 것으로 보인다.

 미국은 4월3일부터 자동차에 25% 관세를 부과했고, 5월3일부터 자동차 부품으로 확대 적용된다. 이번 완화 조치로 자동차 제조사는 미국에서 조립한 자동차 가치의 15%에 해당하는 부품에 대해 관세가 1년간 줄고, 그다음 해에는 10%에 해당하는 부품에 대해 관세가 준다. 핵심은 부품 관세 부담을 줄이는 데 사용할 수 있는 일종의 '크레디트'를 제공하는 것으로, 차 부품의 15%는 관세 없이 외국에서 가져와서 자동차에 넣을 수 있게 하겠다는 것으로 풀이된다.


 자동차 업계는 이번 조치에 대해 환영하고 있다. 이날 포드는 성명을 통해 "자동차 제조업체, (부품) 공급업체, 소비자에게 미치는 관세 영향을 완화하는 데 도움이 될 것"이라고 밝혔다. 국내 완성차와 부품 업계도 이번 조치가 반갑다. 업계에서는 그동안 관세 부과로 완성차보다 부품사에 즉각적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 우려를 해왔다. 한국무역협회에 따르면 지난해 한국의 대미 자동차 부품 수출액은 82억2200만달러로 역대 최대치를 기록했다.


 특히 한미 양국 정부 사이의 협상을 통한 '7월 패키지'를 통해 세금 문제 해결을 더욱 확실하게 할 수 있길 기대하고 있습니다. 자동차 제조사 관련 인사는 "최근의 세제 감면으로 가장 나쁜 시나리오는 피할 수 있게 되었다"라고 언급하였지만, 여전히 두 나라 간 협상 과정에서 세액과 관련된 합의를 이루어내어 위험 요인이 줄어들기를 주시하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

How Queen Elizabeth's Beloved Cars Rolled Across the Globe

 At the beginning of May, an enlarged visitor center will debut at the Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh, featuring a landmark that has drawn over 7.5 million visitors—more people than reside in either Scotland, Norway, or Denmark combined. Given the plethora of impressive facts associated with HMY Britannia, some narratives might get overshadowed; one such tale involves the automobiles onboard—a narrative deserving greater attention.


 Even with the advancements in superyachts, megayachts, and giganauts over the past 72 years since Britannia set sail, incorporating car storage onboard still remains uncommon. This necessity demands ample space, specialized knowledge, and coordination with port facilities. Given her impressive 412-foot length (falling well within "giga" category standards), along with more than 240 royal crew members and an owner who led the British Commonwealth, Britannia was equipped to handle such a challenge.


 The yacht was equipped with two "matching" cars: one that alternated between blue and green.
 Land Rover Series 1
 , along with a Royal Claret and Royal Black Rolls-Royce Phantom.


 The robust Land Rovers remained operational for many more years than the Rolls-Royces onboard, yet the Phantoms' distinctive characteristics render them the most memorable vehicles today.

 The two Rolls-Royces
</h2>

 Soon after her coronation,
 Queen Elizabeth II
 Daimler was replaced by Rolls-Royce as the state car supplier, leading to the creation of a Phantom IV Hooper landaulet specifically for her during the construction of Britannia. The vehicle was designed to fit inside the yacht’s garage. It embarked with them in 1956 for a tour of Nigeria.


 Next arrived the Phantom V Park Ward limousine, which revolutionized regal automotive transportation: a massive 6.2-liter V8 engine with air conditioning and distinct customizations for the two vehicles commissioned by the Queen—taller rooftops and clear Perspex panels at the rear to cover the back seats.


 Supplying these cars in 1961 and 1962, Rolls-Royce called them Canberras, for discretion, implying the client was Australian.

 The chassis numbers were 5AS33 and 5AT34 (the late Queen never used vehicle registration plates) and they were the Number 1 and Number 2 State cars until 1978, the highest ranking going to the most recent car.

 Lifting and stowing
</h2>

 Getting these cars on and off the yacht did not happen quickly. First, it required davits, or craning equipment. A raft with inflatable sides was used for the Land Rovers, which tended to be stowed on deck in a forward position, but the Canberras, each weighing three tons, required a transporter or carrying platform that moved on rails sunk into the teak deck. At nearly 20ft in length, the Canberras also needed their front and rear bumpers to be removable.


 They were stowed in a roller-door garage, inboard of the Royal Barge, which had to be lowered out of the way to move the cars in and out. Their ultra-polished surfaces received extra protection from snug-fitting covers.


 “It all looked like quite the rigamarole,” says Steve Hislop, an ex-rigger and sailmaker on Britannia. “There were a lot of Yachtsmen involved; a thorough run-through to hone the disembarkation process could last a working day.”

 The Phantoms’ onward journeys were seldom easier. For the Phantom IV’s trip to Nigeria in 1956, Rolls-Royce sent two engineers, T Johnson and W Garner. Given the dusty roads, the heat (Nigeria’s sunshine could make a car’s bodywork too hot to touch), petrol that needed to be constantly strained plus agitated officialdom, Mr Garner received the Royal Victoria Medal for his contribution to the tour’s success. Mr Johnson was awarded the MVO.


 For a visit to New Zealand in 1963, it was considered impolitic to disembark the Number 1 car (Canberra 5AT34) at all, after learning of the colossal amount of money New Zealand had spent refurbishing its own ceremonial car fleet. Landing one of the cars in Wellington in 1970 required the underside to be steam cleaned because of New Zealand’s then-strict precautions against foot-and-mouth disease.

 Land Rover legacy
</h2>

 The
 Land Rover became the preferred vehicle
 not only for Commonwealth tours but also for the late Queen’s cherished summer family cruises through the Scottish Western Isles, where the inflatable raft came into its own.

 Even as recently as 1994, the train known as Canberra 5AT34 traveled to St Petersburg in Russia separately from Britannia for what would become one of the most unforgettable royal tours ever.


 The tall ceiling ensured that the Queen hardly needed to bend when entering or exiting her vehicle, providing ample space for hats and allowing the eagerly awaiting public to clearly view her right up until the end—this was also evident in the design of her funeral coach. Prince Philip enjoyed keeping a road atlas nearby so he could easily track their planned route. The Phantom IV featured concealed reading lights beneath flaps located in the walnut paneling along the sides.


 Among just 18 Silver Ghost Phantoms ever constructed, this particular model gained popularity with the Prince and Princess of Wales between the 1980s and early 1990s due to an increased interior headroom, making it simpler and more graceful for them to exit the vehicle at nighttime events.

 What became of the Rolls?
</h2>

 The Phantom IV and two Canberras stayed at the Royal Mews up till 2002. That year, both the Phantom IV and the Canberra 5AS33 were traded with Bentley as partial payment for something else.
 Two new state limousines were supplied by Bentley.
 That particular year, "part exchange" may appear as an unusual phrase when referring to royal vehicles. However, this makes sense once you understand that the Royal Mews neither purchases nor sells these automobiles. The subsequent Canberra, designated as 5AT34, can currently be seen in the Stables Courtyard at Sandringham.

 In her new residence in Edinburgh, the Royal Yacht Britannia Trust made efforts to acquire one of those vintage automobiles for their collection. However, they discovered another former regal vehicle: a different ex-royal Phantom V—not from Canberra nor with a high roof—but previously owned by Sir Angus Ogilvy and Princess Alexandra. The car was originally part of the holdings of Gary Gifford, the entrepreneur behind a thriving Essex-based drainage firm and a devoted monarchist. In 2000, Gifford lent his Phantom V to the Britannia, where it stayed until his untimely death in a vehicular accident in 2005.


 The trust subsequently succeeded in borrowing Canberra 5AS33 from Bentley. This marked the reunion of the late Queen’s initial Canberra with her cherished former yacht. However, as Bentley aimed to concentrate on its own historical vessel collection, they decided to sell the vehicle through Bonhums in 2018 via a private treaty sale. Since then, it has been relocated to the Middle East and is currently reported to be part of the exhibit at the Royal Cars Museum in Muscat, under the auspices of the Sultanate of Oman.


 The self-funded trust managed by Britannia was unable to substantiate the claimed multimillion-pound amount required for its maintenance, as well as the confidential selling price of the Phantom IV, which was auctioned off through Bonhams in 2018. The vehicle ended up with Stephen Brauer, an American entrepreneur who previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Belgium, a passionate collector, and a known admirer of all things British. Today, this car is showcased in his museum located in St. Louis, Missouri; inside, the cabin has been designed to resemble a post-World War II Earl’s Court auto exhibition featuring custom-made British vehicles.

 Britannia’s trust has concentrated on the more functional and budget-friendly Land Rovers. In 2019, they acquired a Royal Navy Oxford Blue 1950 Land Rover from John Brown 4x4, a company based in Yorkshire. This choice was appealing not just because it was a top provider of vintage Land Rovers but also due to its name matching that of the shipbuilder—John Brown & Company from Clydebank.


 The outcome is an exhibit model that closely mirrors the original Land Rovers, using old photographs for reference, and features contemporary oil seals underneath. (One of these original Land Rovers can currently be seen touring North America under Jaguar Land Rover’s Classic Works banner; however, it is usually housed at their Classic Works facility located in Coventry.)


 The pinnacle of civilization was truly embodied by the British Empire," asserts Mr. Brauer from St. Louis. "From the design of Britannia to the interiors, it mirrors the same combination of sophistication and moderation seen in those handcrafted automobiles.


 Taking care of these artifacts requires a strong heart, though. "We recently found a leak in the cylinder head of the Phantom IV which is currently undergoing rewelding," explains Mr. Brauer. "We sincerely hope and pray that this repair works out because thorough investigations have shown that there isn’t even a single replacement part available anywhere."
