- EXPLORE FURTHER: Review of Virgin Atlantic’s Business Class versus Premium Economy through Video Analysis
London New York serves as the Shibuya Crossing for long-distance journeys, with seven airlines running approximately 200 weekly flights connecting the two cities.
This route holds immense commercial importance globally and stands out as highly competitive.
This makes the budget options provided by the two British companies operating the route, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic (which offers five daily departures from Heathrow ), absolutely crucial.
This journey encapsulates the experience of long-haul flights for millions of travelers.
What do BA and Virgin contribute to the event? Experts in travel from The Points Guy proceeded with discovering and recording their journeys in economy class aboard a BA Boeing 771 from London Heathrow to Newark Liberty International Airport as well as on a Virgin Atlantic A350-1000 flying from Heathrow to John F. Kennedy International Airport.
This story revolves around 'extremely comfy seating', 'entertaining' staff members, unreliable Wi-Fi, and an infotainment system that seems 'obsolete'.

BRITISH AIRWAYS, BOEING 777. SEAT LAYOUT - 3-4-3

Putting British Airways TPG's senior marketing manager took the test. Liam Spencer , who spent $393 (£304) on his one-way flight to Newark.
Liam was impressed by the 'fresh and clean' cabin, the 'comfortable and customizable' headrest, and the 'adequate' legroom.
He informed MailOnline Travel that the Wi-Fi was more affordable compared to Virgin’s pricing (£14.99 versus £20.99). Additionally, he mentioned that the cuisine was ‘excellent’ and praised the cabin crew for their outstanding service.
Any downsides?
A few issues were noted – the seating felt outdated, the in-flight entertainment screen seemed antiquated, and the wooden utensils failed to make an impression.

The pillow also did not receive any praise, with Liam calling it 'slim.'
In the video, following his arrival in the U.S., Liam remarks: "Overall, it turned out to be quite a reliable economy class journey. Today, they exceeded expectations by making sure I felt at home. Food and drinks arrived promptly; this wasn’t merely about putting on smiles for customers. Their personal touch remained consistent from start to finish."
The seating seems somewhat dated, especially the IFE system on the 777. However, overall, I was quite pleased — plus, they arrived at our destination 10 minutes ahead of schedule. It was remarkably efficient and swift.
Virgin Atlantic, Airbus A350-1000. Cabin Layout - 3-3-3

Putting the Virgin Atlantic The economy cabin was put to the test by the Points Guy Editor at Large. Nicky Kelvin , who spent $245 (£189) on his one-way ticket.
He adored the 'comfy chair' featuring an adjustable headrest, observed the presence of dual USB ports for charging, and was thrilled about his large 'IFE display.'
Any other plus points?
Yes, we're still not done.
Nicky informed MailOnline Travel that the legroom was 'plenty adequate,' the over-ear headphones were appreciated, and that the staff were 'excellent.'
Are there any downsides to the trip?

Nicky mentioned that his portion could have been larger and pointed out that the Wi-Fi cost more than the BA service.
Upon arriving at JFK, Nicky concludes by telling his audience: "That flight was quite impressive. Kudos to Virgin Atlantic! I found my seat extremely comfy. Loved the adjustable headrest. Also enjoyed the flexible tray table. The inflight entertainment system was fantastic. However, the internet connection could have been better. All things considered, it’s definitely a nice spot to sit through those long six or seven-hour flights."
The food slightly disappointed me. It wasn’t terrible, yet it could have been better. I craved a larger, fresher salad. The primary dish lacked quantity as well. Similarly, the dessert portion felt insufficient. However, whatever was served turned out quite decent.
However, the treats available in the galley were up for grabs, and the afternoon tea was particularly charming — it truly satisfied my cravings.
However, let’s discuss the service. Virgin Atlantic consistently delivers exceptional service through its cabin crew, which was the highlight of my flight experience. The staff members were incredibly cheerful and welcoming. Each passenger felt genuinely valued and special due to their efforts. In essence, they truly stand out as the pride and joy of Virgin Atlantic.
Thanks, The Points Guy.
