Mary Phelan and Aiden Fitzpatrick from Dublin

In 2005, Mary and Aiden purchased their Victorian house, and over the last four years, they have been engaged in an extensive refurbishment endeavor.

For many years, their ambition was to restore an aged residence, and with great care, they embarked on converting the house into their ideal home. Despite having owned it for two decades, they remain deeply fond of it. Remarkably, they took on much of the renovation work personally.

Mary notes that their skills nicely complement one another; she comes up with the creative concepts, and Aiden brings them to life.

Michael McKeown (Derry)

In Derry, Michael McKeown has quite an expertise when it comes to do-it-yourself projects. Starting in 2020, this architect embarked on constructing his house on familial property and has only recently finished the task by 2024, now prepared to display the outcome.

To maintain the ambiance of the house, he opted for a contemporary design style, drawing inspiration from a blend of aesthetics including mid-century modern, Scandinavian, and bohemian elements.

Warm textures and gentle decor elements are interspersed with vibrant accents and modern items.

Jason Cooke and Katrina Farrelly from Wicklow

In 2004, Jason and Katrina relocated to a previous guesthouse, where despite being filled with period character, the layout was not well-suited for contemporary lifestyle needs.

In 2021, they were granted approval for significant renovations aimed at modernizing the property for the 21st century, which would also double its size.

They dedicated themselves to ensuring the extension seamlessly blended with the current structure and maintained the aesthetic of the time both internally and externally. They characterize their residence as an tribute to late Edwardian and early Art Deco design, employing vivid hues and thoughtfully selected artwork and authentic items whenever feasible.
