In Gate City, Virginia, the Hope House of Scott County has invited Mikayla Evans to share her experiences during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. By telling her story, Evans aims to make sexual assault and domestic violence survivors feel more at ease when they choose to speak out and seek assistance.
In September 2020, Evans plummeted from the fifth-floor window of Sean Williams' downtown Johnson City residence .
Williams has subsequently been found guilty of multiple offenses, such as Three charges of producing child pornography. .
Authorities also allege He sedated and sexually abused multiple women over an extended period. .
On Thursday, Evans addressed a gathering of both men and women regarding the incident when she stumbled and the process of healing that followed.
She mentioned that the trauma dominates her life, yet she desires to assist others.
Don’t be afraid," Evans said. "I understand that people might threaten you at times and make you fearful for your own life or your loved ones’ safety, but you should share your experience and ensure you’re listened to, even if speaking up isn’t what you desire. Just confide in someone so they can be aware of the situation.
Evans discussed the numerous injuries she endured due to the fall. She shared images of her recuperation process during her time at the hospital as well as her ongoing rehabilitation following her discharge.
Evans similarly discussed the emotional and psychological impacts experienced when attempting to attain justice afterward.
Contact the Department of Justice, the FBI, or whichever local law enforcement agencies in your state for assistance. If those entities aren’t helpful, perhaps others might be able to provide support.
