Launched in May 2024, the SEE initiative aims to boost quality journalism in the realm of energy and reinforce the role of media as watchdogs within this industry.

The founding of The Society emerged as an answer to the necessity for comprehensive insights and sophisticated journalism within the energy sector, where such qualities have often been absent recently. Given the growing intricacy of energy-related challenges, it is crucial that journalists working in this field possess extensive knowledge about how the industry functions, along with familiarity with governmental regulations and policies.

Members are selected from journalists, editors, producers, and media experts who have shown dedication to delivering precise and influential coverage of energy-related topics.

The organization releases a quarterly publication titled 'Nigeria Energy Outlook,' offering guidance and explanations on issues related to energy. Additionally, they provide training and refresher courses aimed at improving the expertise and proficiency of energy journalists and media professionals, thereby enhancing the overall standard and insightfulness of media reporting in this field.
